JPJ recalls 8,322 Kia, Yamaha, Mercedes-Benz vehicles
Its director-general, Aedy Fadly Ramli said that the Kia vehicle involved in the recall was 5,123 units of the Rio UB 2010 to 2017 model, suspected to have the risk of short circuit that can cause its Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) to catch fire.
Also, 1,649 units of Yamaha MT09 and 1,369 units of Tracer 9 GT from November 2021 to February 2025 are being recalled for improper functioning of Throttle Position Sensors (TPS), while 149 units of the Yamaha Tenere 700 model from 2023 to 2024 are being recalled for clutch problems.
A total of 32 Mercedes-Benz cars, model S 580 e, GLC 300 4MATIC, EQS 500, AMG SL 43, EQE 53 and EQS 53 from 2023 and 2025 are being recalled for improperly installed fuse boxes.
"The recall is important to avoid crashes due to defects,' he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 8), adding that owners would be contacted by the respective manufacturers to coordinate inspection slots.
"All owners with affected models are asked to plan ahead to enable the recall and inspection to be done as soon as possible.
"For further information, owners can contact or visit any sales and service centre,' he said.
Aedy Fadly also said that all components affected would be replaced with the costs borne by the manufacturer.
"The JPJ will monitor the process and remains committed to ensure all vehicles involved undergo inspection and are certified safe,' he added.- Bernama

ALOR SETAR, Aug 10 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has expressed hope that more school students from the B40 group will join phase two of the MyLesen B2 programme, which allows them to obtain a free motorcycle licence. JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said this aligns with the 10,000 new spots under the initiative recently announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke. '…we are targeting to help more underprivileged secondary school students aged 16 and above obtain their motorcycle licence so that they can ride to school. 'JPJ, the Ministry of Education and state education departments have reviewed several matters to expand the MyLesen B2 programme to the school level,' he told reporters at the handover ceremony of the MyLesen B2 driving licence for Kedah state here today. 'I hope the government will consider JPJ's request to increase the allocation for the MyLesen B2 programme next year, as it has received an overwhelming response,' he said, adding that the programme would also ensure better compliance with road traffic laws. The government allocated 15,000 spots for the free motorcycle licence under phase one of the programme, which began in February. The MyLesen B2 programme is an initiative to help the B40 group obtain a free Class B2 of the Malaysian Driving Licence (LLM), as part of efforts to enhance mobility, employment opportunities, and road safety. Meanwhile, Aedly Fadly said that only the government can decide to lower the minimum age for obtaining a driving licence below 16, adding that thorough preparations and discussions are necessary before it can be introduced. Muhamad Kifli said the vehicles were seized for offences that included the driver not having a valid driver's licence, as well as expired road tax and insurance. A total of 627 summonses were issued in the last operation. 'Kuala Lumpur recorded the highest number of seizures with 93 vehicles, followed by Selangor with 61, Penang with 28, Sarawak with 16, and Kelantan with 15. 'All vehicles have been placed at the JPJ depot for futher investigation and were seized under the Road Transport Act 1987,' Muhamad Kifli said. Impounded vehicles will only be released after its owners renew their road tax and insurance Muhamad Kifli stressed that JPJ would not compromise with any party violating traffic regulations, and the periodic implementation of Ops Luxury will continue to be strengthened as part of JPJ's strategic efforts to safeguard the safety, well-being, and sustainability of Malaysia's transport sector. ‘SIS' vehicle plate auction in Selangor starts Aug 15 for charity
