Mellin said the fire started on the porch and migrated into an open window. The front of the residence was engulfed in flames when firefighters from five stations responded. He was unsure whether there were working smoke alarms in the building. The blaze is not believed to be suspicious. One of the occupants was helped by the Red Cross with temporary lodgings. The blaze caused about $250,000 in damage.
