Internet disrupted in Morocco after Spain power outage - Region
A major power outage in Spain and Portugal on Monday disrupted Orange Maroc internet services in Morocco, the subsidiary of the French telecoms giant announced.

In a statement, the company said "the disruption to our internet network is due to a widespread power outage in Spain and Portugal".
It said the blackout had "impacted international connections".
Other internet providers such as Maroc Telecom and Inwi have not issued any statements regarding potential disruptions.
Moroccan authorities have also not reported any impacts on the North African country resulting from the blackout.
At 12:30 pm (1030 GMT), power went out across Spain and Portugal, causing widespread disruptions to mobile networks, internet service and railroad operations.
With stoplights knocked out, road traffic was also halted.
Spain said it was working to determine the cause of the blackout, with Portugal saying the entire Iberian peninsula was affected. Southwest France also briefly saw cuts, its high-voltage grid operator said.
Orange Maroc's statement came hours later, around 1520 GMT.
In neighbouring Algeria, the Ministry of Telecommunications also warned of potential internet service interruptions due to the outage.
At 1330 GMT, it said disruptions could occur "in the upcoming hours", but none have been reported yet.

Sisi & Macron Discuss Gaza Crisis & Strategic Partnership in Phone Call
By Ahmad El-Assasy Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today from French President Emmanuel Macron, during which the two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral ties and the evolving situation in the Middle East, particularly the Gaza conflict. According to a statement by Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the two presidents expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between Egypt and France. They highlighted the momentum gained from Macron's historic visit to Cairo in April 2025, during which bilateral relations were elevated to the level of a strategic partnership. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to fully implementing the pillars of this partnership and expanding cooperation across key sectors. Special emphasis was placed on increasing French investments in Egypt and enhancing the involvement of French companies in major economic projects across the country. The call also focused on regional developments, with the Palestinian issue taking centre stage. President El-Sisi praised France's consistent support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and briefed his French counterpart on Egypt's ongoing efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate the exchange of hostages and detainees, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid. President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt's backing for the upcoming Peace Settlement Conference scheduled to be held in New York in June 2025. He underscored that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, remains the only path to achieving lasting peace in the region. President Macron, for his part, expressed appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role in promoting regional stability and ending the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He commended Egypt's official and popular efforts, especially in delivering humanitarian assistance and providing medical care for injured Palestinians. UAE to Resume Flights to Damascus Starting July 16
Israa Farhan The United Arab Emirates has officially announced the resumption of its scheduled flights to Damascus, Syria, beginning July 16, 2025, marking a significant return to the Syrian capital after more than a decade of suspension. The UAE-based airline suspended its operations to Damascus in 2012 due to the escalating conflict in Syria. However, following a comprehensive assessment coordinated with the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, the UAE has now confirmed the phased restoration of its Damascus route. In the initial phase, the UAE will operate three weekly flights—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays. Starting August 2, the schedule will expand to four flights per week with the addition of a Saturday service. The airline plans to further increase frequency to daily flights from October 26, 2025. The UAE first launched its Damascus service in 1988 and had transported over 2.1 million passengers to and from Syria before suspending operations in 2012. The return of these flights is expected to enhance regional connectivity and support the gradual reintegration of Syria into broader commercial aviation networks. Syrian airports had largely halted operations following the collapse of national infrastructure during the country's prolonged conflict. Most international connections were severed, leaving Syria largely isolated from the global air transport system.
