Mississauga man charged with sexually assaulting girls under 16, police say
Police in Peel region say they have charged a 28‑year‑old Mississauga man with multiple sex offences following an investigation into online encounters with girls under the age of 16.
It's alleged that between September 2024 and June 2025, the suspect using the online name '‑PoloPapi‑' engaged in sexual relations with multiple female victims underage.
On Wednesday, police arrested Carlos Galeano and laid several charges including two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference, breach of probation order and assault.
Galeano has appeared in Brampton court for a bail hearing.
Police say they believe there may be more victims and are urging anyone with information to call the SVU at 905‑453‑2121 ext 3460.

Parts of Whistler Mountain Bike Park closed due to ‘aggressive cougar activity'
Sections of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park were closed Saturday after reports of 'aggressive cougar activity' in the area, officials say. A spokesperson for B.C.'s Environment Ministry told CTV News conservation officers are investigating two incidents involving one or more cougars around 7 p.m. Friday. 'In one incident, a mountain biker was approached by a cougar,' a statement reads. 'The cougar disengaged when other bikers arrived but stayed in the area.' In the second incident, a cougar reportedly chased a mountain biker for about 350 metres. He threw rocks at the animal, and it also remained in the area. There were no injuries, according to officials. Conservation officers searched the area but didn't find any cougars. The Creekside and Garbanzo zones closed to bikers Saturday and will remain so 'until further notice,' the Resort Municipality of Whistler said. Cougar conflicts or aggressive behaviour can be reported to the B.C. Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277. Tim McLeod said that investigations remain ongoing and he expects police to announce more charges. So far, two arson charges have been laid by RCMP regarding the Ditch02 fire near Weyakwin which forced multiple evacuations. 'I know that there are many others that are being investigated, last I heard in the neighbourhood of 30 individuals are suspected of and being investigated for intentional arson and that is just an absolute shame when you think about the devastation that these fires cause,' McLeod said during an interview with CTV Morning Live Saskatchewan on Wednesday. While McLeod stated that '30 individuals' are suspected of arson in connection to wildfires in the province, SPSA President Marlo Pritchard clarified that '30 incidents' are under investigation. 'First of all, it's not 30 people. There's 30 incidents that are being investigated as intentional starts or arson investigations,' he explained, during Wednesday's wildfire update. 'There have been charges laid in at least two of those incidents by the RCMP, and I'm not aware of any other charges as of this time.' According to McLeod, it's the province's full belief that police investigations will lead to full prosecutions for people found to be responsible for intentionally starting wildfires. The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) has confirmed that 350 values have been lost in wildfires to date, with the number expected to exceed 500 following more investigations that includes assessing the community of Denare Beach later this week. Last week the SPSA said that many of the wildfires in Saskatchewan this year were set accidentally by humans, but that they believed at least 30 were intentionally set. So far in 2025 the province has seen 261 wildfires, well above the five-year average of 157. Currently there are 17 active wildfires, three are considered not contained. However, recent rainfall and cooler temperatures have allowed crews to take a more offensive approach to fighting wildfires and fire growth has been minimal for the better part of two weeks. All but five evacuations have ended in the province. According to the SPSA, Creighton, Denare Beach, East Trout Lake, Whelan Bay and priority individuals in Cumberland House remain evacuated. A provincial fire ban was also lifted this week as well as a ban on ATV and UTV vehicles. The province will provide an update regarding the current wildfire situation at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon.

19-year-old in ‘mom's car' charged after driving while suspended on Hwy. 401
OPP impounded this vehicle after it was found its 19-year-old driver was driving suspended. (OPP/X) A teenager will have some explaining to do after his mom's car was impounded following a traffic stop Saturday. Ontario Provincial Police say the 19-year-old with a G2 licence from Pickering was stopped in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 in Quinte West. 'The officer discovered that the individual's licence had been suspended for accumulated driving offence points,' OPP said in a social media post. The driver was charged with driving while suspended, speeding and for failing to surrender his vehicle permit. The car will be impounded for seven days, police say.
