Actress Sonalika Joshi, renowned for her long-standing role as Madhvi Bhide in the television series 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah', recently revisited a controversy from her past. In an interview with Subhojit Ghosh, Joshi discussed an incident where she was criticised for a photoshoot that led some to mistakenly believe she was a chain smoker. She said, "I was just holding it and sitting like that. I wasn't even smoking. It was just for the style, for the pose," Joshi explained, referring to the cigarette she held during the shoot.advertisementThe actor recounted how the misunderstanding escalated on social media, particularly on YouTube, where numerous videos falsely labelled her as a smoker. "Then suddenly, so many things came out on YouTube - 'I'm a chain smoker' and what not," she stated. Despite the backlash, Joshi chose not to engage with the rumours, prioritising her family's understanding of her over public opinion.
In the interview, Joshi expressed her disappointment with those unable to distinguish between her real life and the characters she portrays. She clarified, "It was a proper photoshoot. The look was totally different. I wasn't casually smoking with a group or playing Sonalika doing that. If they don't understand that, let them talk." Joshi's stance reflects her resilience in the face of public scrutiny. Her decision to remain calm amidst the controversy stemmed from her belief in the importance of family support. Joshi said, "I said, let them talk. My family is my most important, my greatest asset. If they know how I am, then what difference does it make what they print?"Joshi concluded by acknowledging the motivations behind these judgments, suggesting, "Maybe they're enjoying it. Maybe their YouTube is getting views. Either they get some sadistic pleasure, or they just want to be judgmental. Let them."The long-running comedy show, 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' has been entertaining audiences for 17 years, but it has also seen several major cast exits over time.- Ends
