The 2025 British and Irish Lions tour has seemed like a sporting treat still far in the distance for months, but the time has now come to finally enjoy it.
This Friday, Andy Farrell's men will play their first match against Argentina in Dublin, before flying out to Australia to take on the best Australian rugby has to offer. You can see the team for the first match, which was named on Wednesday, here. Following that game, the Lions head to Australia on Sunday, with the first tour match held on Saturday, June 28.

With the 2025 Lions Tour arriving, here's everything you need to know about the trip to Australia.

When are the Lions tour matches on TV?
While in Australia, the Lions will play nine matches, including a three-match Test series against the Wallabies near the end of the tour. All matches kick off at 11:00 BST apart from the game in Dublin which starts at 20:00 BST
The games can be watched live and exclusive on Sky Sports. S4C will also broadcast extensive same-day highlights of each game every matchday evening. The Lions v Argentina match is live on S4C.

What happens if it's a draw?
One change that is looking to be implemented to this edition of the Lions Tour is the proposal of golden-point extra-time. After the 2017 series ended in a draw, Rugby Australia chief Phil Waugh has suggested to The British and Irish Lions board to include the rule to avoid an 'anti-climax' as Sam Warburton previously described it as in 2017.
The decision is still under consideration by The British and Irish Lions board.

Waugh has also confirmed the use of the 20-minute red card during the series after its success in this year's Six Nations. The rule means that the offending team can replace the red-carded player 20 minutes after being reduced to 14 players.
The 38-man squad travelling to Australia was announced by head coach Andy Farrell in early May. The only two Welsh representatives are Jac Morgan (Ospreys) and Tomos Williams (Gloucester Rugby).

The St Johnstone fan has worked for the BBC for a number of years, featuring on iconic programmes such as Final Score and Football Focus. She's also filled-in on hosting duties on Match of the Day 2. In 2017, Barbour also became the Beeb's lead golf presenter and has covered several of the game's biggest championships since. And it's rather different to her usual duties in the presenting chair! She's revealed she'll be swapping the studio for the commentary box at this summer's Women's European Championships. "A huge thanks goes to so many who have helped me along the way with guidance, wisdom, honest feedback, opportunities to improve and being a support from the co-comm chair! "Now the real work begins, on to Switzerland!" The Women's Euros take place between July 2 and July 27. That's how it should be – Andy Farrell insists Lions places still up for grabs

Maro Itoje captains the Lions for the first time and is joined in the starting XV by Marcus Smith, who has been picked at full-back behind an all-England half-back partnership of Alex Mitchell and Fin Smith. Ireland prop Tadhg Furlong is given the opportunity to prove his fitness after being named on the bench for the Aviva Stadium showdown having been sidelined since early May because of a calf strain. As many as 14 players could make their Lions debuts before the squad departs for Australia on Saturday and Farrell has demanded they make an immediate impact if they want a shot at facing the Wallabies. Our team to face Argentina in Dublin! 🦁#Lions2025 — British & Irish Lions (@lionsofficial) June 18, 2025 'I did an exercise a couple of weeks ago, and I've done it about five times since, of choosing what the Test side could be,' the head coach said. 'You actually can't even go there because there's such good competition and that's how it should be. 'The exciting thing about Friday night is these guys get to show the team-mates who are sat in the stand what they're all about. 'We are looking for cohesion, connection and an ability to attack the game from the off. 'You can give yourself any excuse as far as time together is concerned, but we've had good prep and if you want to be a good Lions player you've got to hit your straps straight from the off.' Furlong has been troubled by calf and hamstring injuries all season, forcing him to miss the entire 2024 autumn series and all but one match of the Six Nations. If fit, the three-time Lions tourist will be favourite to start at tighthead prop in the Test series against the Wallabies, but first he must negotiate the curtain raiser against a Pumas side ranked fifth in the world. 'Tadhg is fit and ready to go and train well and as keen as everyone else to get the show on the road,' Farrell said. Duhan van der Merwe is another player looking to demonstrate his fitness ahead of Saturday's departure Down Under having been limited to just 11 minutes of action since the Six Nations because of ankle ligament damage. ¡Vamos Los Pumas! Toda la información: — Unión Argentina de Rugby (@unionargentina) June 18, 2025 The Scotland wing is part of a heavy duty threequarter line that features England try machine Tommy Freeman and bulldozing centres Bundee Aki and Sione Tuipulotu. Farrell delivered positive fitness updates on Jamison Gibson-Park (glute), Huw Jones (Achilles) and Hugo Keenan (calf), stating that all three should be available for the the first match in Australia against Western Force on Saturday week. Argentina were also the warm-up opponents in 2005 when they held Sir Clive Woodward's Lions to a 25-25 draw in Cardiff. 'It's a tremendous opportunity for myself and the whole team. This is our first opportunity to set the standard that we want to be set and be the kind of team that we want to be,' Itoje said.

Jack Draper fights back from set down to reach last eight at Queen's

The 23-year-old dropped the opening set to tricky Australian world number 21 Alexei Popyrin, but gathered himself to level the match. He then came through a deciding-set tie-break to win a gruelling contest 3-6 6-2 7-6 (5) in two hours and 13 minutes. CMAAAN 🗣️ @jackdraper0 #BackTheBrits 🇬🇧 | #HSBCChampionship — LTA (@the_LTA) June 18, 2025 If Draper breaks new ground and reaches a maiden semi-final in west London, he will be seeded fourth at Wimbledon. 'It was a tough match, credit to Alexei, he played some amazing tennis,' he said. 'I love playing at home and in front of my friends and family. It's an emotional moment. 'In the first couple of sets it wasn't pretty at all, I need time to adjust to the grass but it's one more under the belt.' Draper forced two break points in the seventh game of the first set, but two 130mph aces got Popyrin out of trouble. The Briton then lost concentration momentarily and before he knew it, Popyrin had three break points. The set quickly disappeared, although play was briefly held up when a bizarre gust of wind engulfed the Andy Murray Arena, sending a spectator's hat flying into Popyrin and large bits of felt from the barriers swirling on to the court. However, it was Draper who got a second wind with a double break to draw level. His serving got him in trouble and back out of it after a double-fault gave Popyrin a break point at the start of the decider, with a big serve and then an ace clinching a vital hold. Popyrin clung on valiantly, saving two match points as he served at 4-5, and in the tie-break he led 4-2. But Draper stepped on the gas to win five of the last six points, finishing the job with an ace.
