Paris Saint-Germain have booked their spot in the semifinals of the Club World Cup with their 2-0 win against Bayern Munich on July 5.

Along with contributing to PSG's qualification for the Club World Cup semifinals, Hakimi broke a record by providing the assist to Dembele.
The 26-year-old right-back has made 26 direct goal contributions (11 goals and 15 assists) in the 2024/25 season, which is the highest in the history of any defender in a single campaign.
Prior to Hakimi, this record was held by former Brazilian right-back Dani Alves, who netted four goals and provided 21 assists, leading to a total of 25 goal contributions in the 2010/11 season for Barcelona under Pep Guardiola's management.
What's next for Paris Saint-Germain and Achraf Hakimi?
PSG are set to face Hakimi's boyhood club, Real Madrid, in the semifinals of the Club World Cup on July 9 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Man United confirm Alvaro Carreras buyback stance as Real Madrid watch on

Manchester United have done a lot wrong in the transfer market in recent years, with ill-judged departures almost as significant as poorly planned signings. Scott McTominay left last year and won the Serie A title with Napoli, not to mention picking up that division's MVP award after a stunning campaign in Italy. Advertisement Anthony Elanga has just made a big-money move to Newcastle United after shining at Nottingham Forest, who picked him up from the Red Devils two years ago for £15m. The strange case of Alvaro Carreras That same summer, Alvaro Carreras joined Spanish side Granada on a season-long loan which was cut short in January 2024 to facilitate another loan, this time to Benfica. Last year the Portuguese giants exercised the €6m option to buy the Spanish left-back, who despite playing well in a problem position for United never made a senior appearance for them. His exit was sanctioned by the now-departed Erik ten Hag, who opted for the injury-prone Luke Shaw and unreliable Tyrell Malacia as his main picks at left-back. Advertisement The Dutchman at times even turned to playing the likes of on-loan Sofyan Amrabat in the role, leaving fans excited for Carreras' return and inclusion in the first team squad – something which never came to pass. Real interest After predictably impressing with Benfica, it was only a matter of time until Europe's heavyweights entered the frame for the 22-year-old's signature, and Real Madrid ultimately won the race for a fairytale ending. The youngster was poached from Los Blancos' academy in 2020, so a return to the La Liga giants doubtless appealed to player and club alike. Nevertheless, United held the key to any such deal by dint of the buyback clause contained within the sale to Benfica, which gave them first refusal in case of his departure from the Estadio da Luz. Advertisement United decision It was an opportunity to create some unexpected drama in an otherwise underwhelming transfer window. But United were never seriously expected to take up the option, especially having signed Patrick Dorgu earlier in the year. Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday that Carreras' move to Madrid hinged on the Red Devils sending an email to confirm they wouldn't activate their buyback clause. The journalist emphasised then that the club were not interested in doing so, and updated fans today with confirmation. 'Man United confirm they won't activate buy back option so deal now sealed,' he said, indicating that the total fee comes to €50m and the player will undergo a medical shortly. INEOS will console themselves with the reported 20% sell-on fee that was also included in the transfer to Benfica, although fans will be left wondering what could have been had the young talent been given a chance at Old Trafford. Club World Cup finalists hope US dumps afternoon kickoffs next summer due to sweltering temperatures

Chelsea and PSG play starting at 3 p.m. in MetLife Stadium, also site of next year's World Cup final. Because of the heat, Fernandez recommended FIFA avoid afternoon kickoffs at the 2026 tournament. 'The speed of the game is not the same,' he said. 'Everything becomes very slow. Well, let's hope that next year they change the schedule, at least so that it remains a beautiful and attractive football spectacle.' Advertisement Temperature at kickoff Sunday is forecast to be 83 degrees, with humidity that will make it feel like 91. 'The game will be harder for the team that don't have the ball,' Chelsea captain Reece James said. 'I think we've played in it a fair amount now, so I'd say we're slowly, slowly getting used to it.' Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique and his team will likely deal with temperatures feeling in the low 90s on Sunday in New Jersey. PSG seeks to complete a quadruple after winning Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and Chelsea is trying for its second world championship after winning in 2021. The Blues have a fourth day of rest after beating Fluminense 2-0 on Tuesday, a day before PSG routed Real Madrid 4-0. Advertisement Lowest ticket prices dropped from $330 earlier in the week to $199.60 on Saturday. 'I agree with most of the people that they say that they are the best team in Europe, the best team in the world, and the reason why is because they are showing this — they show in France, they show in the Champions League, they are showing in this competition," Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said. Related : PSG clinched the French league title on April 5 with six games to spare, won the French Cup on May 24, and the Champions League a week later, romping over Inter Milan, 5-0, in the final. 'We really want to go grab this title and this would make it an absolutely perfect season, which would be very hard to replicate,' PSG captain Marquinhos said. 'We really want to make history.' Chelsea had a more modest season, finishing fourth in the Premier League, losing to Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup, to Newcastle in the fourth round of the League Cup, and winning the third-tier UEFA Conference League. 'Everyone is picking up our opposition,' James said. 'We are preparing right and we are going to win.'
