Sophie Cunningham sends message to WNBA fans after sex toy brings another game to a halt

Daily Mail4 days ago
Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham has spoken out after a WNBA game was halted by a sex toy for the second time in a week.
On Friday evening, the Chicago Sky's game against the Golden State Valkyries was disrupted after an inappropriate object was thrown from the stands onto the court.
The bizarre scenes left fans, players, coaches and commentators shocked, while officials swiftly dealt with the fluorescent green object that interfered with play.
The shocking incident came just days after the Valkyries game against the Atlanta Dream was similarly brought to a stop after a sex toy was thrown from the stands.
Now, Cunningham has had enough. The Indiana Fever star took to social media to vent about the issue, shortly after the incident in Chicago on Friday night.
The Fever star said: 'stop throwing dildos on the court… you're going to hurt one of us'.
Cunningham called for fans to 'stop throwing' the sex items onto the court in WNBA games
The post on X went viral and garnered over three million views on the social media platform in the space of three hours.
While no one has actually been hit by the provocative projectiles yet, Cunningham raises a fair point that it could potentially injure a player.
On Friday night, after the sex toy was thrown, officials swiftly stopped the game and swept it aside, as players and coaches stood bemused at the bizarre incident.
The commentators were equally as puzzled as they said: 'We have a whistle away from the basketball. An object has been thrown onto the court'.
Sky star Kamilla Cardoso, however, evidently saw the funny side to the incident after being seen giggling with teammates while they game was brought to a stop.
Officials eventually swept the fluorescent green object to the side before one team member picked it up - using a towel - and disposed of it.
Cunningham, meanwhile, had made headlines of her own recently after she claimed that those who believe Caitlin Clark is not the face of the WNBA are 'dumb as f***'.
Since her arrival in the league last year, Clark has dominated on the court and, as a result, has often found herself targeted by her WNBA rivals and fans on social media.
Last month, after Clark found herself embroiled in another on-court scuffle, it was Cunningham who retaliated and fought back for her Fever teammate.
Now, Cunningham has taken her defense of Clark to the next level after she ripped into the 23-year-old's doubters during a recent podcast.
Speaking on the Show Me Something podcast, Cunningham said: 'It literally p****s me off when people say she isn't the face of the league.
'There's really good, well known people in our league - I'm not discrediting them. We have a lot of bad a**es in our league [and] I'm all for that.
'But when people try to argue that she's not the face of our league, you're dumb as s***. You're literally dumb as f***'.
Though many have tried to discredit Clark's talent and hard work on the court, her growing status was best illustrated by the fact she was named an All-Star captain.

DHS sparks confusion by adopting socialist anthem for latest video: ‘He's writing about cops and vigilantes'

The Department of Homeland Security is facing criticism for using Woody Guthrie 's famous 1940 folk song 'This Land Is Your Land' in a promotional video. The song appears in a July 30 clip from the agency on X, soundtracking a video featuring scenes of natural beauty, families, and federal agents, plus the caption, 'The Promise of America is worth Protecting. The Future of our Homeland is worth Defending.' Experts on Guthrie say the singer — a lifelong socialist who wrote songs about topics like immigrant farmworkers and decorated his guitar with the slogan, 'This machine kills fascists' — was not intending to write an anthem for an agency carrying out mass deportations. Instead, Guthrie biographer Will Kaufman told CNN, the song reflects Guthrie's preoccupation with the inequality, poverty, and violence that took place during the 1930s in America in the wake of the Depression. 'Woody is writing about a different America,' he said. 'He's writing about cops and vigilantes and barbed wire and bread lines.' 'Boy, did the DHS ever get it wrong!' the Guthrie family added in an email to the outlet. 'So now, it looks like we'll all have to sing 'This Land Is Your Land' right back at 'em, so they can re-learn it and get it right.' Though the song has gone on to be considered a generic pro-U.S.A. anthem, it was originally written in part out of Guthrie's annoyance with another patriotic tune, 'God Bless America.' The original versions of 'This Land Is Your Land' also feature lesser-remembered verses about people who 'stood hungry,' as well as a line that called out a sign bearing the words 'private property' or ' no trespassing,' depending on which iteration was being sung. Later in life, Guthrie wrote a song calling out Donald Trump's father, Fred Trump, for 'racial hate,' over the real estate developer's alleged history of racial discrimination towards potential tenants. The concern over DHS's use of Guthrie's music mirrors the response from artists and their families who have seen their paintings used in DHS social media efforts. As The Independent has reported, the agency has used nostalgic images of the Western frontier and small-town, midcentury America in between touting its military-style immigration raids, a combination one observer said was 'classic fascist propaganda.' The agency has also faced backlash for using memes like the Jet2 Holiday sound and AI-images to promote its deportation campaign.

Son Heung-min breaks down in tears as he bids Tottenham goodbye in MLS record transfer

TEARFUL Son Heung-min claimed his Spurs exit came at the perfect time after completing his MLS-record transfer to LAFC. The Tottenham skipper, 33, last night joined the Los Angeles outfit in a deal worth more than £20million. 2 2 It closed the door on a decade of service in North London for the South Korean icon, which was capped by his lifting of the Europa League trophy in May. Addressing Spurs fans in a weepy address on the club's website, Son said: 'It was probably one of the hardest decisions I ever made so please don't be disappointed, I will be disappointed not seeing you on the pitch. 'I will always be in your history books and Spurs will always be in my heart, my family and as a kid you welcomed me and as a grown-up I'm leaving you, but there's always good timing. 'I always wanted to leave in a perfect way where people can think about me in happy and proud moments and this is the right time to say goodbye. 'I love you all, thank you for amazing support for the ten years. Ten years is a lot. A lot of goals and a lot of good memories. 'Now we are all crying but next time when we see each other I hope everyone is smiling.' Son scored 173 goals - including 127 in the Premier League - and registered 101 assists during his 454 appearances for the club, with the Europa League his sole trophy. His personal accolades included the Prem golden boot in 2021-22 and the famed Puskas award in 2020, given to the best goal in the world in the previous year, for his unbelievable solo effort against Burnley in 2019. Son, who arrived at Spurs in 2015 for £22m from Bayer Leverkusen, joins LAFC as their new marquee player following the exit of former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud to Arsenal. Chairman Daniel Levy added: 'Sonny is one of the greatest players to ever wear the famous Lilywhite shirt and he has been a joy to watch over the past decade. 'Not only is he a wonderfully gifted footballer, but he's also an incredible human being who has touched hearts and inspired people throughout the club and all over the world. 'The Europa League triumph in Bilbao was a truly magical moment in the club's history and Sonny lifting the trophy is a perfect lasting memory from his fantastic decade at Tottenham Hotspur. 'Sonny has given so much to this club, both on and off the pitch, and for that we are forever grateful. 'We wish him all the best for the future, and he will always be welcome back at the club as a beloved and cherished member of our Spurs family.'

Dolphins OL Andrew Meyer to miss 'weeks' with injury

August 6 - Miami Dolphins backup offensive lineman Andrew Meyer will be sidelined for "weeks," coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday. The nature of Meyer's injury was not disclosed. Meyer is listed as the backup center on the depth chart the team released Wednesday. "He's had a great camp, really stepped his game, and I'm very impressed with his play," McDaniel told reporters. "He will be out weeks, but he's built a strong foundation as one of the top performers if you want to talk about growth of game. One of the top guys from year one to year two that has made tremendous strides." The Dolphins signed Meyer as an undrafted free agent in 2024 after a standout college career at UTEP. He didn't see any action for Miami last season. The Dolphins also are currently without starting right tackle Austin Jackson (lower leg) and backup guard Liam Eichenberg (knee). --Field Level Media
