South Fulton Police Chief Keith Meadows, a veteran with 39 years in law enforcement, described the week as one of the toughest in his career.
"It was extremely hard. I remember when I first heard about Lt. Cook. The first thing that popped in my mind was, I can't lose another one," Meadows said.
The department has been facing emotional challenges as they mourn the loss of Captain Garcia, a foundational member, and deal with the shooting of Lt. Cook. Chief Meadows noted the impact on his officers.
"It hits a little different when you are the police chief, and you lose an officer," he said. "Many of our young officers had that thousand-yard stare in their eyes."
In response, Meadows and his command staff held meetings with officers to provide support and resources.
"It's important for us to give our officers that outlet that they need," he emphasized, mentioning the involvement of Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) in these sessions.
Despite the challenges, there was a moment of hope as Lt. Cook was welcomed home by his neighbors with signs and cheers after being released from the hospital.
"Lieutenant Cook was recently released from the hospital. He came out of ICU a couple of days ago, and he's doing very well," Meadows shared.

Pitt Meadows Secondary teacher charged with child luring, child pornography offences
A high school teacher in Pitt Meadows, B.C. has been charged with multiple child exploitation-related offences, according to the B.C. Prosecution Service. Court records show 30-year-old Lovesh Ramsaha has been charged with four counts, including internet luring of a child under 18, making sexually explicit material available to a child, making child pornography and distributing it. Ramsaha had been teaching at Pitt Meadows Secondary. The prosecution service said the alleged offences occurred between August 2024 and February 2025 at or near Pitt Meadows. In a statement to CBC News, Ridge Meadows RCMP said they launched an investigation in February after receiving a complaint regarding alleged sexual offences involving a local teacher. Because the suspect was in a position of authority, police said investigators acted quickly and worked with the school district to take appropriate steps. Pitt Meadows Secondary principal Colin Sharpe informed families in a letter Friday that Ramsaha had been removed from his teaching duties "as soon as the district became aware of the allegations." CBC News has obtained a copy of that letter. "Please be assured that the safety and well-being of our students is always our highest priority," the letter said. The B.C. teacher registry shows an "undertaking not to practice" was placed on Ramsaha's file in March. Few other details have been released due to privacy reasons and pending criminal charges. CBC News has attempted to contact Ramsaha but has not heard back. Ramsaha is currently not in custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 21 in Port Coquitlam, B.C.

Harney Poway sushi restaurant targeted in early morning robbery
POWAY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI)– An attempted robbery of the Harney Poway, a small sushi restaurant on Poway Road, early Sunday morning left the workers of the business shaken, but not defeated. Just before noon Sunday, the Poway Sheriff's Station received the report when an employee of the sushi restaurant notified the station, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's office. According to the report, on Sunday, around 2 a.m., surveillance footage from the restaurant showed an unknown individual entering the business. The restaurant's cash register was reportedly stolen. Harney Poway released photos of the incident on their social media, showing the burglar, who was wearing a hoodie and gloves, looking at items and rummaging through countertops. According to the post on the restaurant's social media, the individual broke into the back of the restaurant by picking the lock. The restaurant also stated that no one was injured during the robbery, and the only item taken was a cash register that had change in it. The sheriff's office said the investigation is in the preliminary stages and they have not determined if the incident is related to a series of other crimes throughout the county.
