Gotta catch ‘em all: Search for thief who stole over $100k worth of rare Pokémon cards in overnight raid
Cops in New Bedford responded Tuesday following reports of the break-in at 1st Edition Collectibles in the early hours of the morning.
According to the store's three owners, the incident took place at around 2:30 a.m., with the culprit making off with several items – some worth tens of thousands of dollars.
A total of $113,650 worth of the rare trading cards were taken, including multiple editions depicting the fire-monster Charizard, as well sealed booster boxes and other rarities.
"We're literally just three guys," store owner Felipe Andre told NBC Boston. "This is our passion. This is what we have loved since we were children."
Following the break in, the store owners posted a flyer detailing the missing stock on Facebook and asked people to watch for any suspicious online posting. They added that they would 'reflect, regroup, revamp.'
'The overwhelming support that we've received from you all this week has been amazing and a reminder as to why we love this hobby and the community involved so much. We're truly honored to be a part of it,' the post read.
'Seriously, thank you all for bringing some comfort to us during this crazy time. This incident was devastating but we will bounce back, grow, and come back better than ever. We can't wait to see you all soon!'
The owners said they planned to reopen on Tuesday.
No arrests have been made so far, according to NBC Boston. The Independent has reached out to the New Bedford police department for updates.

Actor Gary Busey pleads guilty to sexual offence at horror convention
Actor Gary Busey has pleaded guilty to a sexual offence stemming from an appearance at a 2022 horror convention in New Jersey, according to his representatives and court records. The 81-year-old Buddy Holly star's manager, Ron Sampson, said in an email on Friday that the actor admitted to touching a woman's buttocks 'over clothing during an 8-10 second photo op'. Advertisement Busey entered a guilty plea to a single count of criminal sexual contact during a virtual hearing in state court in Camden on Thursday. The actor had been accused of inappropriately touching at least three women at the Monster-Mania Convention at the Doubletree Hotel in Cherry Hill, a South Jersey town and suburb of Philadelphia. Organisers of the event acknowledged at the time that an unnamed celebrity guest was 'removed from the convention and instructed not to return' and that affected attendees were encouraged to contact police. Busey had been scheduled as a featured guest for all three days of the event. He was initially charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, one count of attempted criminal sexual contact and one count of harassment. Advertisement Busey's lawyer Blair Zwillman confirmed on Friday that the other charges were dropped as part of a plea deal reached with prosecutors. The actor faces up to five years' probation and fines when he is sentenced September 18. 'In my view Mr Busey was 'overcharged' probably based on his star status,' Mr Zwillman said in an email. 'He could have just as easily been charged with the disorderly persons offence of harassment by 'offensive touching'.' Camden County prosecutors did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment on Friday. Busey is widely known as a character actor, largely in supporting roles, though he came to attention and was nominated for an Oscar for best actor for playing the title role in the 1978 film The Buddy Holly Story. Lionel Messi's bodyguard hit with new suspension three months after revealing he was banned from MLS
Lionel Messi 's bodyguard has been suspended for 'improper conduct' for the remainder of the Leagues Cup, according to reports. Following an incident in Inter Miami's game against Atlas this week, the disciplinary committee confirmed that a member of staff from the MLS club had been suspended. A statement read: 'After the July 30 Inter Miami CF vs. Club Atlas match, a member of Inter Miami's club delegation displayed improper conduct by entering restricted areas without an official event credential. 'In accordance with the Leagues Cup 2025 Tournament Regulations, the Disciplinary Committee has suspended the individual involved from all technical areas for the remainder of Leagues Cup 2025 and issued an undisclosed fine to Inter Miami CF.' ESPN have since reported that the individual in question is none other than Messi's personal bodyguard Yassine Cheuko. Cheuko was seen entering the pitch - after the final whistle - to break up a discussion between the two groups of players and made contact with individuals from Atlas. One Atlas star then addressed the issue in his post-match press conference and insisted that Cheuko did not have permission to enter the field. Defender Matheus Doria said: 'We already know that our board works very well and will take care of the issue. 'I understand that Messi's bodyguard is there to protect Messi from a possible entry by a fan, I don't know, but between players, he doesn't have that permission. 'It's not up to us to say much or give our opinion on the matter, but the board and those in charge of the Leagues Cup have already seen it and will take charge of what can and can't be done. 'Because as long as it protects not only Messi but the other players, and the physical integrity of the players who are there, that's fine. But if it's for other issues, no one will agree, but it's not up to me to do anything.' After serving a one-match suspension, Messi returned to action for Inter Miami in the game against Atlas and provided assists for both goals in the 2-1 victory. The news comes three months after Cheuko claimed that he had been banned for MLS and CONCACAF matches. Speaking to House of Highlights, he said in April: 'They don't allow me to be on the field anymore. I was in Europe for seven years working for Ligue 1 and the Champions League, and only six people invaded the pitch. 'I arrived in the United States, and in 20 months of work, 16 people have already invaded the pitch. There's a huge problem here. I'm not the problem. Let me help Messi. 'I love MLS and CONCACAF, but we have to work together. I love helping. I'm not better than anyone, but I have a wealth of experience in Europe. It's fine, I understand their decision, but I think we could do better'. Cheuko, a trained MMA fighter who was personally chosen by Inter Miami president David Beckham upon the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner's arrival in the US. In a bizarre turn of events, he recently doubled down on his desire to batter Logan Paul in the boxing ring. Paul initially challenged Messi to a fight amid the legal battle between their drinks brands Prime and Mas+. Cheuko offered to take Messi's place, but Paul reportedly turned down a £11.3million ($15m) boxing match and instead challenged him to a bare knuckle fight in the streets of Puerto Rico.
