Instagram app for Apple iPad is in the works, likely to launch this year- Report
Meta launched a dedicated WhatsApp app for Apple iPads last week, providing users with all the latest features. Now, the company is working on developing an Instagram app for iPads. As of now, the company is testing the app, and it may launch later this year. The Instagram and WhatsApp apps for iPad have been a constant request from iPad users. Now, after years of providing support to Android and iOS, the popular social media app is finally coming to iPadOS. This move would be welcomed by many, since users rely on iPads for their visual content editing and posting. An iPad version will make things easy for content creators and influencers to directly post content on the Instagram app. Also read: How to quietly limit someone on Instagram without blocking, unfollowing, or causing drama According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Meta is developing the Instagram app for iPad, and it may launch by this year 'if all goes to plan'. Reportedly, the iPadOS version of Instagram is currently being tested by Meta employees. Previously, it has been suggested that Meta has faced several challenges in developing an Instagram app, such as app optimisation, layout, images, and other interface-related issues for a bigger screen. Now, they see have overcome these critical issues, and are now actively testing for the Instagram app launch this year. Also read: WhatsApp Web to bring voice and video call features soon for users - All details But why is Meta suddenly building a native iPad version for its apps? Well, reports suggest two major factors. Firstly, TikTok is under the watch of the US government, and it may face a ban in the country for security reasons. Secondly, the ongoing US traffic war may have also caused the sudden change in plans. However, it should also be noted that the iPad version of the Meta app will increase the user base globally. It's unclear if Threads will also get an iPad version in the future or not. Now, we simply have to wait for confirmation and the launch announcement for an Instagram app for iPad. Previously, Meta hinted towards the launch of the WhatsApp app for iPads on X (formerly Twitter), now we could get similar hints while the Instagram launch for iPads. After WhatsApp, Meta may launch Instagram for Apple iPad: What to expect
Meta-owned social media platform Instagram is reportedly developing a dedicated application for Apple iPads. Following the recent launch of WhatsApp for iPads, it now appears likely that Meta could introduce a native version of Instagram for iPad. According to 9to5Mac, Meta is working on an iPadOS-specific version of the app optimised for larger displays. A 9to5Mac report citing Bloomberg's Mark Gurman states that Meta is now 'full steam ahead' in its development of an Instagram application for Apple's tablet. Gurman noted, 'I'm told that employees on the Meta Platforms Inc. campus are actively testing Instagram for the iPad and that development work is full steam ahead. I would expect it to be released this year if all goes to plan.' Instagram for iPad: What to expect Optimised user interface: The app is expected to feature enhanced display scaling tailored for the iPad's larger screen, incorporating a refined layout that makes better use of the tablet's aspect ratio. Improved multitasking support: The native version will likely support iPadOS features such as Split View, facilitating easier navigation and improved interaction while multitasking with other applications. Exclusive layout options: The app may include design elements or interface modes exclusive to iPad, enhancing the overall experience. Upgraded Reels and video browsing: Users may benefit from smoother scrolling and enhanced video playback performance, with a more immersive, cinematic Reels experience in full-screen mode. Currently, iPad users can only access Instagram through the iPhone version of the app, which is not optimised for the tablet interface. This results in a stretched layout and subpar user experience, forcing users to rely on a zoomed-in iPhone app lacking features tailored for larger displays. Although specific details about the upcoming iPad version remain limited, the dedicated app is expected to deliver an interface that better aligns with tablet usage.

Apple chief Tim Cook snubs Donald Trump, gives another gift to India as tech giant to open...
(File) Amid Donald Trump's recent threat to impose 25% import tariffs on Apple if the tech giant increases its iPhone production in India, the company has announced to open its third retail store in the country. The new Apple Store will be opened in the Phoenix Mall of Asia in Bengaluru, according to a Business Standard report. New Apple Store to open in Bengaluru As per the report, Apple's new retail store, its third in India, is spread across over 8,000 square fee, almost equal to its counterpart in Delhi, but smaller than the company's flagship store in Mumbai, which is spread across a whopping 20,800 square feet. The upcoming Apple Store in Bengaluru will feature all the distinctive and recognizable features associated with the company's retail outlets, including a minimalist design, professional staff dressed in Apple uniforms, and an abundance of glass. Apple has leased the space for 10 years, and will pay 2 percent of its total earnings as rent for the first three, which will increase to 2.5 percent for the remaining lease period, according to the report. The lease period began from November 8, 2024, and rent will start August 8, 2025, which means the store will likely open in next few months, presumably in late July or early August. Apple's India plan Experts believe that the new Apple Store is more than just another retail store, but a part of company's larger plan to strengthen its roots in India as it plans to stay in the country for a long period, despite Donald Trump's tariff threats. Apart from being a giant market for Apple products, India is also emerging as a manufacturing hub for the company, which is evident from its recent assertion that the majority of iPhones that will be sold in the US from June 2025, will carry a 'Made in India' tag, while iPads, MacBooks, Apple Watches and AirPods will be shipped from Vietnam. However, things are expected to become difficult for Apple if it chooses to increase iPhone manufacturing in India, defying Donald Trump's diktat, who has threatened to impose 25% import tariffs on iPhones manufactured outside the United States.
