Iconic UK nightclub will close forever in weeks in new blow to UK nightlife
One of the UK's most legendary nightclubs is shutting its doors in the a few weeks marking 'the end of an era' for the country's clubbing scene.
Motion, on Avon Street, Bristol, will close in July despite being an integral part of the city's nightlife.
But the 4,000 capacity club, which opened in 2003, has struggled to secure a permanent residence at the former skate park.
Owners said they submitted a 'strong, careful thought-out bid' to the landlords, but admitted they were uncertain about the club's feature.
In an Instagram post, they wrote: 'Our bid makes it crystal clear: Motion isn't just a nightclub.
'It's a vital piece of Bristol's cultural and economic ecosystem.
'We'll keep pushing, we'll keep fighting and we'll keep working towards a future where Motion – and spaces like it – can thrive.'
But bosses have since confirmed the lease will expire in July, and will not be renewed.
A message on the club's website said: 'Unfortunately, we've recently received confirmation that our lease will not be renewed when it expires in July 2025, placing the future of the venue in serious jeopardy.
'In response, we've submitted a bid to purchase the property in an effort to safeguard Motion's legacy.
'However, as time passes and with no response from the landowners, it's becoming increasingly clear that the opportunity to stay is slipping away.' More Trending
The club consists of five indoor spaces, and has hosted some of the biggest names in music, including Chase and Status.
People have expressed their sadness online over the closure, saying the news 'made them cry'.
One said: 'I'm so angry that this venue couldn't secure the protection and life it needed. I do look forward to what comes next.'
Another added: 'This made me cry. My favourite venue. Met some amazing people & made beautiful memories.'

Eileen Grimshaw had a special send-off during Friday's episode of the soap, where she was seen leaving for Thailand alongside her son Jason Grimshaw, played by Ryan Thomas. Meghan Markle shares video of her, Prince Harry and their kids at Disneyland
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, continues to share sweet snippets of her family life with husband Prince Harry and their two kids, Archie and Lilibet. In her latest Instagram post, the former Meghan Markle shared a video collage filled with photos of their trip to Disneyland for their daughter's fourth birthday. 'Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!' Meghan captioned her post Friday. The video, set to Peggy Lee's 'It's a Good Day,' shows Lilbet and Archie meeting Elsa and Anna from 'Frozen.' In all the pictures she included of their little ones, their faces are obscured or covered with a heart.
