Rotherham ‘grooming victim' was told ‘white girls are for rape'

Telegraph7 hours ago

A woman said she was told that being rape 'is what white girls were for' when she was attacked as a teenager in Rotherham, a jury has heard.
The alleged victim was about 14 years old when she was raped by Sageer Hussain, who was about the same age as her, and two other men, Sheffield Crown Court heard on Wednesday.
Andrew Bailey, prosecuting, said the girl, who is now in her late 30s, was raped by Mr Hussain, Kessur Ajaib and Mohammed Makhmood between 1999 and 2002.
Describing one of the times the teenager was allegedly raped by Mr Hussain, Mr Bailey told the court she later said: 'He said it was my own fault, I'd led him on.
'I shouldn't have walked around in what I was dressed in. I deserved it and that is what white girls were for.'
Mr Bailey opened the trial of the three men by telling the jury: 'The three defendants are all charged with serious sexual offending of a historical nature.
'The offending all took place in the Rotherham area.'
Mr Hussain is also charged with raping a second teenager.
Victim 'felt overpowered'
Mr Bailey said the first teenager was an 'immature and vulnerable young girl' when she began going to a Rotherham youth club.
He said this club was also frequented by young Asian men, some around her age but others who were older and would ask the girls if they wanted to drink. The older men also gave the girls cigarettes.
The prosecutor said the 14-year-old girl met Mr Ajaib at the youth club and he began to sexually assault her after word got out that she had had consensual sex with a boy of her own age.
Mr Bailey said Mr Ajaib saw this as a 'green light' and the defendant said that 'now she needed to come to try somebody real'.
He told the jury how Mr Ajaib, who was about 18 at the time, allegedly raped her in an alleyway.
'She told him she didn't want to do it,' Mr Bailey said, adding: 'He was a lot bigger than her and she felt overpowered. She realised she had no choice.'
Mr Bailey said this girl was forced into sexual intercourse on 'about five or six occasions', as she was 'in fear of being hurt if she didn't do it'.
'Did not dare tell anyone'
The prosecutor said Mr Makhmood, who was 18 or 19 at the time, raped the same girl in an old graveyard in Rotherham as she fought against him.
Mr Bailey said that he called her a 'slag' and a 'dirty b----' before spitting at her and laughing.
The prosecutor said her parents had split up and her mother was working four jobs, so she had to deal with it on her own. He said she 'did not dare tell anyone'.
Mr Bailey told the jury how Mr Hussain allegedly raped the second complainant in an alley in Rotherham town centre with another male and female present.
All counts denied
Mr Ajaib, 43, denies two counts of rape and one of indecent assault, all relating to the first complainant.
Mr Makhmood, 43, of Falding Street, Rotherham, denies one count of raping the first complainant.
Mr Hussain, 39, formerly of Rotherham, denies two counts of raping the first complainant and one of raping the second complainant.
Mr Bailey told the jury that Mr Makhmood told police that it was a case of 'mistaken identity' and police had 'got the wrong man'.
Hussain told officers the 'allegations were vindictive' and Mr Ajaib made no comment when he was interviewed.
The trial continues.

BREAKING NEWS Chilling development after two people were tortured, stuffed alive into a toolbox and dumped in a lagoon near Brisbane

Three men found guilty of the 'horrific' murder of two people who drowned in a toolbox have been given a 30-year life sentence. Cory Breton, 28, and Iuliana Triscaru, 31, were killed at Kingston in Logan, south of Brisbane, on January 24, 2016. The pair had been beaten, stabbed and choked before they were stuffed into a two-metre-long toolbox. Stou Daniels, Davy Malu Junior Taiao and Trent Michael Thrupp were found guilty of the pair's murder for a second time following a retrial. Justice Glenn Martin said they had engaged in 'appalling conduct' when he sentenced the trio in the Queensland Supreme Court on Thursday. 'It is difficult to imagine the immense terror they felt in the hours leading up to their deaths,' he said. Justice Martin accepted crown prosecutor Nathan Crane's submission that the three defendants should serve 30 years instead of the mandatory 20-year minimum. All three defendants have already spent more than nine years in custody, which was recognised as time served. Mr Breton's partner, Miranda Parkinson, said in her victim impact statement that she knew he was dead as soon as she got a call from detectives asking to visit their home. 'I lost any hope I had held onto after 17 painstaking days that Cory was missing,' she said. 'The man that I loved, that I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with, no longer exists.' Mr Breton's sister Tamara Kazim-Breton told the defendants about the person they 'threw away so easily like they were nothing'. 'Your actions didn't just take Cory, you tore us apart', she said. 'None of us living decent lives should be forced to relive this horror.' Ms Triscaru's mother and family members said in a joint victim impact statement that she was cherished as the heart of the family. 'Her senseless killing has left wounds that continue to bleed,' the family members said. A jury returned its verdict on June 20 after deliberating for more than two days. The trio faced a retrial in Brisbane after the Court of Appeal set aside murder convictions in July 2024. Mr Breton and Ms Triscaru had been lured to a Kingston unit before being attacked by a group of men over a drug-dealing dispute. The men drank whiskey and played video games for hours after torturing the pair and forcing them into the toolbox. The terrified pair made so much noise as the container was being moved, music from an awaiting ute was turned up in a bid to conceal it. Thrupp either threw the toolbox, weighed down by concrete, into nearby Scrubby Creek or was present when it happened, Mr Crane told the jury. Daniels and Taiao were also liable for murder by forcing the victims into the toolbox hours before their deaths, he said. Police divers found the bodies locked in the toolbox submerged in the lagoon two weeks later.

Richard Gerald Jordan: Man who was on death row in Mississippi for almost 50 years executed

A man who was on death row in Mississippi for almost 50 years has been executed. Richard Gerald Jordan kidnapped and killed Edwina Marter, a stay-at-home mother who was married to a banker, in a violent ransom scheme. The 79-year-old, a Vietnam War veteran who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, died by lethal injection at 6.16pm local time (12.16am UK time) on Wednesday. Jordan was the longest-serving man on death row in Mississippi - and had sued the state over its three-drug execution protocol, arguing it was inhumane. When given an opportunity to make a final statement, he said: "First I would like to thank everyone for a humane way of doing this. I want to apologise to the victim's family." Jordan's wife Marsha and his lawyer Krissy Nobile attended the execution, and dabbed their eyes several times as it took place. He thanked them both and asked for forgiveness, and his final words were: "I will see you on the other side, all of you." Mrs Marter's husband Charles and her two sons were not present. 1:00 This is the third execution to take place in Mississippi over the past 10 years, with the last taking place back in December 2022. A man was also put to death in Florida on Tuesday, meaning this is shaping up to be the year with the most executions since 2015. Back in 1976, Jordan had called the Gulf National Bank. An operator said Charles Marter could take the call. He then hung up and found Mr Marter's home address in the phone book, and kidnapped his wife Edwina. According to court records, he fatally shot her in a forest - and then rang Mr Marter to demand a $25,000 ransom for her safe return. Her son, who was 11 years old at the time of the murder, previously said that the execution "should have happened a long time ago". Eric Marter added: "I'm not really interested in giving him the benefit of the doubt. He needs to be punished." 6:14 Jordan's lawyer had attempted to argue that a jury never got to hear about his experiences in Vietnam, but her appeal was dismissed by the Supreme Court. A petition had also asked Mississippi governor Tate Reeves for clemency, and said Jordan suffered severe PTSD after serving three back-to-back tours, which could have been a factor in his crime. Franklin Rosenblatt from the National Institute of Military Justice said: "His war service, his war trauma, was considered not relevant in his murder trial. "We just know so much more than we did 10 years ago, and certainly during Vietnam, about the effect of war trauma on the brain and how that affects ongoing behaviours." But Eric Marter said he disagreed with this argument, adding: "I know what he did. He wanted money and he couldn't take her with him. And so he did what he did."

One of the first things you notice about the impressive, detached house in a tree-lined street in the heart of Brighton are the CCTV cameras. It's not the only safeguard. At night, lights come on if anyone approaches the property. Inside is an alarm with a panic button linked to a private security firm. The owner is on its 'emergency response' list, which carries out regular patrols around her address.
