India's top 500 companies have smashed past an all-time milestone, raking in over Rs 15 lakh crore in net profit in FY25, a historic high that underscores the resilience of corporate India, even as earnings faced widespread downgrades in the last 4 quarters.Data compiled by Axis Securities shows that NSE 500 's cumulative profit jumped from Rs 10.66 lakh crore in FY23 to Rs 15.07 lakh crore in FY25, based on the last four quarters ending Q4FY25 on a rolling basis. This includes results from 458 companies. The new peak for corporate profitability in FY25 was powered by strong showings from agriculture & chemicals, telecom, and staples.NSE500 profit surged 11.4% during the financial year. Telecom profits surged 45.7%, while staples, healthcare, and agriculture and chemicals posted solid 10.8–13.1% gains. Banks grew at a modest 4.8%, while oil & gas profits dropped 10.2%.From FY21 to FY24, profit growth clocked a stellar 26% CAGR for NSE 500 companies. FY25 growth slowed to 10%, but excluding oil & gas, metals & mining, earnings rose 18.9%, Axis said.Even with this deceleration, the market's profit engine hasn't stalled. According to Axis Securities' Head of Research Neeraj Chadawar, sectors that were deep in losses during the pandemic have now turned positive. He noted that financials, oil & gas, metals, and IT together contribute 65% of NSE 500 profits.Chadawar said largecap companies are showing a recovery in earnings momentum, with 81% of Nifty companies beating or meeting earnings expectations in the March quarter.Still, market optimism is being reined in. FY26 Nifty earnings have been downgraded by 3.3% and FY27 by 2%, Axis noted. The revision stems partly from index reshuffling — Zomato and Jio Financial have replaced BPCL and Britannia, altering index-level expectations. Adjusted for this change, the downgrade for FY26 is a more modest 2%.Axis projects Nifty EPS at Rs 1,151 for FY26 and Rs 1,315 for FY27, and sees 14% CAGR earnings growth between FY23–27. But concerns persist. 'Trade policy uncertainty, rupee depreciation, and relatively higher valuations remain key risks to near-term market multiples,' it added. Nonetheless, the firm has upgraded its base-case Nifty target for March 2026 to 26,300, valuing it at 20x FY27 earnings.Motilal Oswal reported that FY25 Nifty EPS ended at ₹1,013, up just 1% YoY on a high base. FY26 EPS was cut by 1.9% to ₹1,135, with sharp revisions in SBI, ONGC, IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors, and TCS. FY27 was trimmed 1.1% to ₹1,314. 'Forward earnings revisions are weakening, with downgrades outpacing upgrades,' the firm warned, despite a better-than-expected Q4FY25 print.Nomura also flagged that while aggregate FY25 profit growth came in at 8%, the outlook is softening. Consensus EPS forecasts for FY26/27 have already been revised down 2.3% and 1.4% since March. Since September 2024, that's a 7.6% and 6.3% cut, respectively. The firm expects further 4–8% earnings downgrades for FY27, citing weak exports, reduced household financial savings, and a sluggish investment cycle.IIFL noted that all sectors saw FY26 EPS downgrades except oil marketing companies, with the worst cuts in tech, construction, FMCG, and energy. Downgrade/upgrade ratios stood at a steep 3.5x, and RoEs compressed by 30 bps over the last six months.Despite these cuts, analysts are optimistic about FY26. Sectors like defence, telecom, India-focused pharma, and hospitals are expected to sustain high visibility and strong growth. Cement and metals could also surprise positively due to input cost tailwinds. The story is clear: corporate India just delivered its most profitable year ever, even amid macro headwinds and a downgrade-heavy season. While the forward path appears bumpier, the profit engine is still running strong — and FY26 is shaping up to be another test of resilience.: Recommendations, suggestions, views and opinions given by the experts are their own. Samruddhi expressway to be linked to Vadhvan port
Mumbai: Maharashtra will connect the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi expressway corridor to the upcoming greenfield Vadhvan port, slated to be the country's biggest such facility, via the Nashik highway, the upcoming Delhi-Mumbai greenfield expressway corridor, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, the under-construction bullet train corridor, and the coastal road that is planned to be extended up to the port. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "The Prosperity corridor will have up to 500 MW to 1,000 MW capacity solar plant along it with 200 MW starting soon, besides a huge gas pipeline that will supply PNG not only to cities but also to power and steel plants right up to Gadchiroli to achieve decarbonisation targets. Every 500 metres to a kilometre there is a groundwater recharge facility and ponds to hold rainwater," said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis soon after opening the 76 km last leg of Samruddhi between Igatpuri and Bhiwandi. He announced that very soon, work on the Rs 80,000 crore Shaktipeeth corridor from Nagpur to the Goa border via Marathwada and Western Maharashtra will also be started in full swing. Deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar were present at the Samruddhi inauguration, besides scores of ministers and legislators. The CM and his deputies also opened the south-bound arm of the Vashi creek bridge through an online event. "Samruddhi expressway is not just a road; it is a green corridor for Maharashtra's fast-emerging economy as 24 districts of Maharashtra have been connected to JNPT (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust) and eventually to Vadhwan. Special wildlife infrastructure with 100 animal overpasses and underpasses have been constructed to ensure their safe passage. A total of seven tunnels have been built; the one between Igatpuri and Kasara being the widest in the country. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now We will break this record once the Pune-Mumbai missing link tunnel is completed. The interchanges on the Samruddhi expressway look like art work drawn on paper. Inside the tunnel, artificial rainfall will begin when the temperature crosses 60 degrees due to a fire incident and will stop when it drops to 30 degrees," he said while interacting with the media at Igatpuri. The tunnel was built by Afcons. Fadnavis said over 3.3 million plantations were done using local species. "While building the road, 1,000 farm ponds were created. We are prepared to generate 200 MW of solar power and 22 amenity centres have been set up. A gas pipeline will also reach from Konkan to Nagpur, providing gas to people and industries. Religious places like Shirdi, Shegaon and Trimbakeshwar will come closer. Now we want to construct the Shaktipeeth expressway as well on a fast-track basis," he said. Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde termed Samruddhi a game-changer. "It was one of the toughest and most challenging projects and will greatly benefit people and businesses. A journey that took 18 hours will now take only eight hours — saving both fuel and time. We paid attention to even the smallest details. Around 1.1 million large trees and 2.2 million small plants will be planted, making the expressway the most eco-friendly project ever," he said, pointing out that the road will boost agriculture, tourism, and industry. A farmer starting in the morning from Nagpur with produce used to reach Mumbai in three days. Now, he can reach by evening," he added. Shinde said the Shaktipeeth expressway will be a game-changer for Marathwada as farmers won't commit suicide anymore. After the inauguration, the chief minister and his deputies inspected the longest Igatpuri tunnel of the expressway and viaduct in the stretch. To conduct an inspection of the expressway, Dy CM Shinde drove a high-end car with CM Fadnavis sitting beside him in the front seat and Pawar occupying the back seat. The inspection lasted around 45 minutes, including the time taken for the journey between Igatpuri and Amane. On the way back, Fadnavis and Shinde swapped seats with the CM getting behind the wheel, while Pawar remained in the same seat. The newly-constructed third creek bridge near Vashi Sion-Panvel Highway was also inaugurated via video conferencing on the occasion. The earlier operational 625 km of the expressway stretch was used by nearly two crore vehicles in the last two years. The maximum speed limit on the expressway is 100 kmh in ghat sections and 120 kmh on flat terrain. The expressway traverses through 392 villages in 26 talukas across 10 districts in five revenue divisions. A smart integrated traffic management system (ITMS) will be installed on the expressway soon, the CM said, adding they gave the 'right of way' to the Gas Authority of India Ltd for laying the pipeline while making the access control road between Mumbai and Nagpur. Dy CM Ajit Pawar said many, including farmers from his party, opposed the Samruddhi project at the beginning, but when CM Fadnavis announced very attractive compensation, they all sided with the project and accepted money. "The project was estimated to cost Rs 55,500 crore but eventually went well above Rs 61,000 crore. Around 12 crore cement bags were used in the project. Fadnavis started the project when he was CM, and now it was inaugurated during his second term, and such continuity is rare in politics. And also let's not forget the contribution of Eknath Shinde," he said.

Bank Official Stole Crores From FDs, Invested In Stocks. They Tanked
Kota: One would think their money is safest in a bank. But, in a shocking case, this bond of trust was leveraged by a woman officer of a bank in Rajasthan's Kota to dupe customers of more than Rs 4 crore. Reason: The lure of generating high returns in a short period by investing in stocks. And, she used the money in the accounts of more than 41 customers to achieve that. The fraud continued for two years, but no one in the bank had any idea about it. Sakshi Gupta, who was the relationship manager of the ICICI bank, misused the 'User FD (Fixed Deposit)' link and illegally withdrew Rs 4.58 crores from 110 accounts of 41 customers between the years 2020 and 2023. Ms Gupta, as per the probe, invested the money in the stock market. She, however, failed to deposit the money back in the accounts after she incurred heavy losses in the market. She has now been arrested and sent to judicial custody. The police arrested her at her sister's wedding late last night. The scam came to light when a customer came to the bank to inquire about his FD. The bank then filed a case with the police on February 18. The woman even changed the mobile numbers of the customers linked with the accounts so that they would not know about the transaction messages. "She linked the phone numbers of her family members to these accounts and withdrew more than Rs 4 crore. She even devised a system that she used to get the OTPs on her system so that the account holders don't get a whiff of the fraud," said investigating officer Ibrahim Khan. The ICICI Bank has yet to issue a statement. However, sources in the bank said it will compensate the loss suffered by impacted customers. A customer arrived at the bank to check if his money was safe after he learned about Ms Gupta's arrest. "I heard that Sakshi Gupta duped people of Rs 4 crore. I came here to check if my money was safe or not," said Mahavir Prasad. "Where should we keep our money? We can't keep it at home, now we can't keep it with the bank. What should we do?" he asked.

Viral Post Claims Mumbai Auto Driver Earns Rs 5-8 Lakh A Month Without Even Driving, Stuns Internet
A Mumbai auto-rickshaw driver's extraordinary business venture has gone viral on LinkedIn, leaving many in awe. By leveraging his strategic location outside the US Consulate, he's reportedly earning Rs 5-8 lakh per month, outpacing many high-earning professionals like IT directors and chartered accountants, all without driving his auto. Rahul Rupani, a product leader at Lenskart, highlighted the story of the autorickshaw driver who's built a thriving business without driving his vehicle. Notably, hundreds of visa applicants visit the US Consulate daily, only to find out that bags aren't allowed inside. With no official storage options nearby, they often face uncertainty and anxiety about where to leave their belongings. Seizing this opportunity, the autorickshaw driver started a paid bag storage service. He caters to around 20-30 customers daily, earning Rs 20,000-30,000, which translates to a monthly income comparable to that of high-level corporate professionals. In a post on LinkedIn, Mr Rupai explained the auto driver's business model: "I was outside the US Consulate this week for my visa appointment, when security told me I couldn't carry my bag inside. No lockers. No suggestions. Just: "Figure it out." While I stood clueless on the footpath, an auto driver waved at me: "Sir, bag de do. Safe rakhunga, mera roz ka hai. ₹1,000 charge hai." I hesitated. Then gave in. And that's when I discovered this guy's brilliant business." See the post here: To accommodate the volume of bags, the autorickshaw driver has partnered with a local police officer who owns a nearby locker facility. The officer provides secure storage space, allowing the driver to safely store the bags, as his autorickshaw isn't equipped to hold them all. "And while most people are sweating over US visa interviews, this guy is running a zero-mile, hyper-profitable, bootstrapped operation. No MBA. No startup jargon. Just pure hustle and street-smart product-market fit," Mr Rupani wrote. He further called it "a masterclass in solving a hyper-specific pain point," admiring the driver's ability to build trust, ensure security, and charge a premium without relying on apps, funding, or formal business education. He praised the driver's resourcefulness, saying, "Real entrepreneurship doesn't always need a pitch deck. Sometimes it just needs a parking spot." NDTV is unable to confirm the authenticity of the post and the claims presented. While some users were impressed, others raised doubts and questions, seeking more information or clarification about the driver's business venture. One user wrote, "That's not his income alone. He has to share with multiple people, including the police. Otherwise, what stops other autowallahs from doing the same at a lower price? Also, I guess they don't know that there is s locker facility inside the consulate at a charge of 500."
