Flipkart will now let you exchange your old phone for new one in just 40 minutes, here is how it works

India Today11-07-2025
Flipkart is reshaping the way users upgrade their smartphones with a newly launched express exchange service under its Flipkart Minutes platform. In a move that combines convenience with speed, the e-commerce giant now enables customers to swap their old phones for new ones, all in under 40 minutes. Currently available in select parts of Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai, the service is expected to roll out to additional cities across India in the coming days.advertisementHow does it work? The process is designed to be as seamless as possible. Customers start by selecting a new smartphone on Flipkart's platform. After scrolling down the product page, they'll find the Exchange widget, where they can click on 'check price.' Here, users enter details about their current device, including brand, model, and condition, to receive an instant valuation.Once the exchange is confirmed, an expert is dispatched to the customer's location to verify the phone's condition and collect it. The determined exchange value is then immediately applied towards the purchase of the new phone. The entire transaction, from valuation to doorstep pickup, is claimed to be completed within 40 minutes.
Flipkart is also accepting smartphones in a variety of conditions, including damaged or non-functional ones. Depending on the state of the old device, the exchange value can cover up to 50 per cent of the cost of a new phone. This flexibility makes the service accessible to a wide range of users, whether they're trading in a well-maintained handset or one that's seen better days.Beyond convenience, the programme is part of Flipkart's larger effort to promote environmentally responsible practices. By integrating smartphone recycling directly into the upgrade journey, the company is encouraging customers to dispose of their old devices in a responsible manner rather than letting them gather dust or end up in landfills. In a blog post, Flipkart emphasised that the service is not only about faster transactions but also about building a more sustainable upgrade cycle. "Our goal is to create a seamless experience while contributing to circular economy practices. Recycling and reusing electronics is key to minimising e-waste,' a company spokesperson said. The launch comes at a time when consumers increasingly seek immediate, hassle-free solutions. Flipkart Minutes, originally envisioned as a quick-commerce offering, is now expanding its capabilities to cover tech upgrades — a space traditionally associated with longer wait times and tedious logistics.By embedding this service into its existing app ecosystem, Flipkart is streamlining the smartphone exchange process in a way that prioritises user convenience. Whether it's a working device with cosmetic wear or one that no longer powers on, customers can now easily trade it in without stepping out of their homes. As Flipkart prepares to bring this innovative solution to more cities across India, the fusion of speed, simplicity, and sustainability positions the service as a potential game-changer in the smartphone retail space.- Ends
