Pakistani Editorial On Trump's Gaza Plan: 'Muslim Ummah Needs To Show Courage And Reject The Game Of Intimidation, Pressure, And Hypocrisy Though Mutual Unity'

In a recent editorial, Roznama Islam , a leading Urdu-language newspaper in Pakistan, criticized U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal for the absorption of Palestinians from Gaza into neighboring countries such as Jordan and Egypt, and went on to argue that the ideas of English philosopher John Locke and others like him are being misused for subjugation of peoples.
"Using slogans such as upholding human rights, individual freedom, freedom of expression, and respect for women, the U.S. and the Western countries have openly supported Israel against the Palestinian people. This proves that, to a large extent, they are following the philosophies of John Locke and other thinkers like him," wrote Roznama Islam , which leans toward the right-wing Islamist and Taliban forces in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region.
The Urdu daily further wrote: "In fact, the philosophies of the Western thinkers proved to be the cheaper means to get freedom from democracy, faith, and religion. However, modern theories have not changed or reformed the nature of supremacy and dominance of the influential classes. Just like in the past, these nations are still striving to crush weaker nations and maintain their rule through cruel tactics and imperialist ambitions in their quest to control the world's resources…"

Following is the translation of the Roznama Islam editorial:
"Using Slogans Such As Upholding Human Rights, Individual Freedom, Freedom Of Expression, And Respect For Women, The U.S. And The Western Countries Have Openly Supported Israel Against The Palestinian People"
"The U.S. Policy of Intimidation, Pressure, And Hypocrisy"
"The U.S. President Trump's foolish desire for a joint American-Israeli subjugation of Gaza, expressed to appease the international criminal Netanyahu, has become a new reason for global condemnation of the United States, with Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and even Australia terming this desire as a madman's dream.
"After being condemned and blamed by both East and West, spokespersons of the U.S. government and the White House issued a clarification, stating that the U.S. aim was not to occupy Gaza, rather Trump was referring to the evacuation of the population to facilitate reconstruction. Hamas, however, said clearly and firmly that any such attempt is only waste of time and the people of Palestine would never leave Gaza.
"In this context, Saudi Arabia's stance is also clearly against the American desire. Following the Saudi government's explanation that they recognize the right of the Palestinian people to Palestine and will never establish diplomatic relations with Israel before the creation of an independent Palestinian state, it becomes clear that the U.S. will not be able to implement its desired policies in the Middle East through the policies of intimidation, pressure, and hypocrisy.
"Using slogans such as upholding human rights, individual freedom, freedom of expression, and respect for women, the U.S. and the Western countries have openly supported Israel against the Palestinian people. This proves that, to a large extent, they are following the philosophies of John Locke and other thinkers like him. In fact, the philosophies of the Western thinkers proved to be the cheaper means to get freedom from democracy, faith, and religion.
"However, modern theories have not changed or reformed the nature of supremacy and dominance of the influential classes. Just like in the past, these nations are still striving to crush weaker nations and maintain their rule through cruel tactics and imperialist ambitions in their quest to control the world's resources and describe their aggressive policies as the protection of their interest."
"There Is No Justification For Direct U.S. Involvement In This Issue, Nor Have The Palestinian People, Who Are The Actual Owners Of This Region, Given Them The Authority To Represent Them"
"The issue of Palestine is not only the matter of a human population. Rather it is a key center of global politics, international coalition, and international conflict; and the lives of the hundreds of millions of people living in the Middle East are directly or indirectly linked to this dispute, which has been continuing for decades.
"In this context, there is no justification for direct U.S. involvement in this issue, nor have the Palestinian people, who are the actual owners of this region, given them the authority to represent them. However, despite that, U.S. President Trump, by adopting a provocative attitude against the Palestinians, is trying to make decisions about their fate.
"According to analysts, this attitude by the U.S. president has made the existing dispute more complicated and severe on the global level. The increase in dispute may result in creating new problems for billions of people across the globe.
"The majority of the human population is already facing different problems due to natural disasters, inflation, climate change, disease, and wars. The rise in unemployment in the world has increased the crime rate. Human respect is being crushed and the control of powerful nations over the weak nations has increased."
"This Issue May Not Be Resolved By Stopping The U.S. Funds To Aid Agencies Because Saudi Arabia, Qatar, And Turkey Will Continue Providing Aid To Gaza Against The U.S. President's Desire"
"In such a situation, the American attempt to increase conflicts is, in fact, nothing but an effort to spread chaos in the world. It is regrettable that all this is being done in the name of protection of interests. This is the reason that the U.S. role is totally against its stated national values and U.S. policies have achieved the status of hypocrisy in international diplomatic matters.
"According to the United Nations Secretary General, the U.S. should keep itself away from any plan of ethnic cleansing in Gaza. Thus, it is being acknowledged at the global level that the U.S., in violation of the international law, is involved in the genocide of the Palestinians by joining hands with Israel.
"This question is important as to why the U.S. president is insisting on the plan of forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza? According to the analysts, the U.S. president is sure that he would succeed in convincing the Arab countries through intimidation and pressure. The aid being given to Egypt and Jordan can play a key role in this regard. However, the U.S. may have no solution to the resolve and steadfastness of the people of Gaza.
"This issue may not be resolved by stopping the U.S. funds to aid agencies because Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey will continue providing aid to Gaza against the U.S. president's desire. Anyway, this scenario shows that the American monopoly in Middle East affairs will not succeed. Now, the Muslim ummah needs to show courage and reject the game of intimidation, pressure, and hypocrisy though mutual unity."

Former DFLP Political Bureau Member Omar Assaf: Peace with Zionist Movement Impossible – the World Only Understands the Language of Force; Young Americans Are Awakening to the Palestinian Cause

Palestinian politician Omar Assaf, a former DPFLP political bureau member, said in a July 19, 2025 interview with Saed Najem on YouTube that he has come to the realization that reaching a peace agreement that meets even the minimal demands of the Palestinians is not possible with the Zionist movement. He said that President Mahmoud Abbas and the rest of the 'Oslo team' have achieved nothing, since the world only understands the language of force. Assaf added that there has been an 'awakening' among young Americans, who now understand the Palestinian cause.

Trump flirts with Ukraine security, with narrow margins

Washington – Donald Trump's newfound if vague willingness to entertain security guarantees for Ukraine could be a game-changer, but the US president's right-wing base is already warning him not to go too far. After a campaign last year spent bashing predecessor Joe Biden over billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine, and Trump's public upbraiding of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in February, Trump has considered promises to Kyiv to end the Russian invasion. He has ruled out ground troops as well as NATO membership, siding with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in blaming Ukraine's aspirations for the Western alliance for the February 2022 invasion. But after Trump welcomed Putin to Alaska on Friday, Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff said the Russian president had agreed to a 'concession' of the United States offering 'Article Five-like protection' for Ukraine, referring to NATO's binding promise that an attack on one is an attack on all. Some observers doubted Witkoff's understanding of Putin, noting that Moscow publicly has insisted on guarantees for Russia. But Trump has said 'we'll give them very good protection' and has spoken of providing US airpower to enforce any agreement. Little is known about what US airpower would entail, but it could support a deployment of European troops to Ukraine mulled by France and Britain. If the United States agreed to enforce control of the Ukrainian skies, it would be an 'incredible green light for greater ambition' by Europeans on security, said Kristine Berzina, a senior fellow at the German Marshall Fund. European leaders showed striking unity and solidarity by coming together to Washington on Monday to back Zelensky in talks with Trump, she said. 'For there to be a meaningful difference on the ground in Ukraine, it can't just be diplomatic alignment. It can't just be the heads of state being in lockstep for a few days at a time,' she said. 'Instead, they have to be ready to actually move and to show to Trump, 'We have everything ready; we just need x from you to make this work.'' – Vagueness on options – Trump, however, could also authorize a much smaller air deployment, such as one focused on reconnaissance that would see limited numbers of US planes in the Ukrainian skies. 'President Trump said some things in his meetings with the European leaders and Zelensky and I am betting a huge sum of money that there are people around Trump who are going to spend a lot of time walking that back,' said Debra Cagan, a former senior US policymaker now at the Atlantic Council. 'What I mean by that is that they're going to try a very de minimis approach to security guarantees, to do as little as possible to carry that out,' she said. She said that any successful strategy needed to have components on land and air as well as sea, including keeping the crucial Black Sea ports open for Ukraine. – Pushback from base – Trump retains a strong hold on the Republican Party, but has already seen some dissent within his hard-right base, which backed him in part for his dismissive attitude to foreign involvement. Outspoken Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who earlier criticized Trump for bombing Iran, said she believed voters would be 'appalled' by more support for Ukraine as they struggle with day-to-day concerns. 'America is broke,' she told conservative host Megyn Kelly. 'At some point we have to start saying no to the rest of the world.' Trump-aligned Senator Tommy Tuberville said it would be an 'impossible sell' to voters still shaken by the Iraq and Afghanistan wars to start another long-term US military commitment, according to The Hill newspaper. Trump, however, has tried hard to portray the war as belonging to Biden and has spoken openly of his desire for the Nobel Peace Prize. 'He could probably sell to his base that this is about America keeping peace and not about America making war,' Berzina said.

Israel pounds Gaza City after offensive gets green light

Jerusalem – Israel hammered Gaza City and its outskirts overnight, residents said Thursday, after the defence ministry approved an expanded offensive to target the remaining Hamas strongholds in the strip. The newly approved plan authorises the call-up of roughly 60,000 reservists, deepening fears the campaign will worsen the already catastrophic humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian territory. 'We are not waiting. We have begun the preliminary actions, and already now, IDF (army) troops are holding the outskirts of Gaza City,' the Israeli military said in a statement. Israel's plans to expand the fighting and take control of Gaza City have sparked international outcry as well as domestic opposition. Ahead of the offensive, the Israeli military said the call-up of the reservists would begin in early September. Gaza City residents described relentless bombardments overnight. 'The house shakes with us all night long — the sound of explosions, artillery, warplanes, ambulances, and cries for help is killing us,' one of them, Ahmad al-Shanti, told AFP. 'The sound is getting closer, but where would we go?'. Another resident, Amal Abdel-Aal, said she watched the heavy strikes on the area, a week after being displaced from her home in Gaza City's Al-Sabra neighbourhood. 'No one in Gaza has slept — not last night, not for a week. The artillery and air strikes in the east never stop. The sky flashes all night long,' she added. Gaza civil defence agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal said air strikes and artillery fire overnight targeted areas to the northwest and southeast of Gaza City. Late Thursday, the Israeli military detailed a range of operations across the Gaza Strip in recent weeks. It said the manoeuvres and strikes 'created the conditions' for the military to intensify pressure on Hamas and lay the groundwork for the next stages of the campaign. As Israel tightened its grip on the outskirts of Gaza City, meditators continued to wait for an official Israeli reaction to their latest ceasefire proposal that Hamas accepted earlier this week. – 'Ball' in Israel's court – Israel and Hamas have held a string of indirect negotiations throughout the nearly two-year conflict, paving the way for a pair of short ceasefires during which Israeli hostages were freed in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Of the 251 captives kidnapped during Hamas's October 2023 onslaught on southern Israel that triggered the war, 49 are still in Gaza, including 27 the Israeli military says are dead. Sources from Hamas and its ally Islamic Jihad told AFP this week that the latest ceasefire proposal calls for the release of 10 hostages and 18 bodies from Gaza. The remaining hostages would be released in a second phase alongside talks for a wider settlement. Qatar and Egypt, backed by the United States, have overseen several rounds of shuttle diplomacy. Qatar said the latest proposal was 'almost identical' to an earlier version approved by Israel, while Cario said Monday that 'the ball is now in its (Israel's) court'. Late Wednesday, Hamas lambasted the Israeli defence ministry's approval of plans to take control of Gaza City, saying it showed its 'blatant disregard' for efforts to broker a ceasefire and hostage release deal. 'Today's announcement by the terrorist occupation army of the start of an operation against Gaza City and its nearly one million residents and displaced persons… demonstrates… a blatant disregard for the efforts made by the mediators,' it said in a statement. Hamas's October 2023 attack on Israel resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official figures. Israel's offensive has killed at least 62,122 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to figures from the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza, which the United Nations considers reliable. Media restrictions in Gaza and difficulties in accessing many areas mean AFP is unable to independently verify the tolls and details provided by the civil defence agency or the Israeli military.
