1.2M Stellantis Ram trucks under federal review
NHTSA said it received 14 consumer complaints and six reports of deaths or injuries involving failures of the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) system. If the BTSI fails, the vehicle could roll away unexpectedly. The issue is connected to earlier recalls that addressed a problem with the BTSI locking pin.
'Both recalls address a potential condition which can cause the BTSI locking pin to become stuck, allowing the transmission to be shifted out of Park without depressing the brake pedal and/or without having a key in the ignition,' NHTSA said. 'Shifting the transmission out of Park without pressing the brake pedal can result in a vehicle rollaway.'
NHTSA announced the recall query on Monday for the trucks equipped with a column mounted shift lever. 'The failures of the BTSI described in the VOQs occurred on vehicles that had all previously been repaired under recall 17V-821 or 18V-100,' the agency shared. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has now opened an investigation to 'review the effectiveness of the 17V-821 and 18V-100 recall remedies, understand the root cause of additional vehicle rollaway incidents, and identify any other possible root cause that may affect the performance of the BTSI system,' the alert said.
BTSI is a safety feature in many vehicles designed to prevent the driver from accidentally shifting the transmission out of 'Park' unless the brake pedal is pressed. This system helps avoid unintended vehicle movement or rollaway accidents. The BTSI uses a locking pin to hold the gear shift in the Park position. If this pin becomes stuck or jammed, it may either prevent shifting out of Park or allow shifting out of Park without pressing the brake pedal.
When the locking pin fails, the transmission can be shifted out of Park without pressing the brake pedal or even without the ignition key inserted. This increases the risk that the vehicle could roll away unexpectedly. There have been 20 total incidents reported due to issues with the Stellantis trucks, including 12 crashes/fires and 7 injuries. Ram trucks were previously a part of Dodge, but became a standalone brand in 2009.
It was integrated into Stellantis in 2021 when Fiat Chrysler Automobiles merged with Groupe PSA. Last month, the company announced it would bring back a rumbling, gas-guzzling V-8 engine after phasing out the iconic HEMI V-8 from the 2025 Ram 1500 lineup. The automaker now says the big-bodied motor will return in 2026. The brand's top boss apologized for killing the grunting 5.7-liter powerhouse.
'We own it. We got it wrong. And we're fixing it,' Tim Kuniskis, the CEO of the Ram brand, said in an advertisement, showing the executive driving the truck around a racetrack. Kuniskis spoke over the thunderous growl of the truck's iconic firing cylinders. 'You hear that? That's our HEMI. And it's saying, 'We're back.'' For years, Ram raked in huge profits with the HEMI-powered full-size pickup trucks. Last year, the company said it would replace the V-8 with a more efficient and powerful V-6, but the swap also stripped away some of the brand's signature brashness. Fans hated the move.

The Cheapest New Volvo America Is Still Waiting For
By signing up I agree to the Terms of Use and acknowledge that I have read the Privacy Policy . You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. No other luxury EV is this affordable Volvo isn't exactly known for bargain pricing. It's a premium brand, Swedish by design, and has spent decades cultivating a reputation for quiet luxury and impeccable safety. But as the EV shift accelerates, even Volvo has had to rethink its entry point. In October 2023, Volvo announced that the 2025 EX30 electric crossover range would start with a single-motor model priced at $34,950. This represents exceptional value for a luxury EV, but would also make it the cheapest new Volvo on sale, including gas models. In late 2024, Volvo announced that the base EX30 would arrive 'later in 2025'. It's still not here, but let's look at what to expect from this affordable Volvo when it eventually arrives. The EX30 Will Be Volvo's New Entry-Level Model 2025 Volvo EX30 2025 Volvo EX30 2025 Volvo EX30 At under $35k, the base EX30 easily undercuts the dual-motor EX30, which starts at $44,900. Looking at other luxury automakers, their cheapest EVs are far more expensive than the base EX30. Audi's Q4 e-tron starts at $49,800, while Mercedes charges $53,050 for the base EQB. Even Genesis, which usually comes in cheaper than the Germans, charges $52,350 for its cheapest EV, the GV60. Standard power in the base EX30 comes from a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 268 horsepower, which is enough for a 0-60 mph time of just above five seconds. The twin-motor Performance trim with 422 hp will hit 60 in a mere 3.4 seconds, so there's quite a gulf between the two in terms of performance. When we drove the single-motor model, we found it had plenty of punch and was more fun to drive than the heavier dual-motor version. Range varies depending on battery and motor choice. The base EX30 Single Motor with the extended range battery can hit 261 miles on a full charge, whereas the Twin Motor has a max range of 250 miles. Why It's Cheaper Than An EX40 2025 Volvo EX30 — Source: Volvo The EX30 is smaller, lighter, and built to scale. It shares its SEA platform with other Geely-group EVs, and it was originally developed with production in China before Volvo announced plans to build U.S. market models in Belgium — a shift triggered by potential tariffs and inflationary cost pressures. For buyers exploring the Volvo price range, it marks a decisive new entry point. Meanwhile, the XC40 Recharge — once the cheapest electric Volvo SUV, and now called the EX40 — now starts at $52,500, making the EX30 a full $17,550 cheaper. Even the XC40 mild-hybrid petrol model now begins above $40,000, while the cheapest Volvo sedan costs nearly $44k, meaning the EX30 undercuts everything across the Volvo catalogue, combustion or electric. If you're looking for the least expensive Volvo with real performance, this is it. Despite this, the EX30 isn't a stripped-out budget special. Standard kit includes: A 12.3-inch digital display with Google built-in Android Automotive OS with wireless Apple CarPlay Lane keeping, adaptive cruise, and cross-traffic alert A full-length glass roof on some trims Sustainable interior materials like flax and recycled denim What it lacks is clutter. There's no instrument cluster, no physical buttons, and no bulky proportions. It's minimal in the purest Scandinavian sense, and Volvo's cheapest car is also the cleanest. How It Compares To Rivals Audi Q4 e-tron The cheapest Volvo SUV model lands in a fast-growing segment that includes the following: Hyundai Kona Electric – cheaper, less powerful, more conventional Tesla Model Y – larger, faster, pricier, less premium inside Audi Q4 e-tron – similar performance, tech, and prestige, but pricier Most undercut the EX30 slightly in price or beat it in range, but none offer the same mix of safety, branding, interior maturity, and performance credibility in one neat package. Minimalism With Purpose 2025 Volvo EX30 The interior of the Volvo EX30 is classic modern Volvo — stripped back, subtly clever, and clean without feeling cold. There's no traditional instrument cluster; instead, all essential info is displayed on a central 12.3-inch portrait touchscreen running Google's Android Automotive OS. Materials are sustainable but don't scream about it — think flax-based fabrics, recycled denim, or a wool blend option depending on spec. Storage is smart too: the glovebox is mounted centrally beneath the screen, and there's a removable centre console bin that doubles as in-car storage or a grab-and-go container. Minimalist doesn't mean empty — it feels considered, not compromised. Who's It For? Source: Zac Palmer The EX30 is designed for younger, urban buyers who want a Volvo badge without a Volvo footprint. It's small enough to feel manageable, smart enough to feel premium, and quick enough to feel exciting. Running costs are low, tax incentives apply in some regions, and total cost of ownership undercuts many petrol SUVs. It's also one of the few entry-level EVs that doesn't feel like a compromise. You're not just buying into the brand — you're getting something that feels complete. 2025 Volvo EX30 — Source: Volvo Often, manufacturers announce a base model with an extremely attractive price, but it ends up being more expensive by the time it goes on sale. The Tesla Cybertruck was an extreme example of this, with an initial expected cost of under $40k which never materialized. When the EX30's base price was originally announced, the effect of tariffs had also not yet been felt. That said, Volvo is a lot less prone to hyperbole than Tesla. All we know is that the single-motor EX30 is still scheduled to arrive at some point in 2025, and Volvo has not said anything about a change to its base price. If it gets here soon at $34,950, it will be the cheapest new Volvo on sale and easily one of the most enticing EVs at that price point. It looks great, is fast enough, and has the upscale appeal of more expensive Volvos. Let's hope we get to experience it soon on local soil. About the Author Karl Furlong View Profile

5 Redesigned 2025 Cars Nobody Wants
By signing up I agree to the Terms of Use and acknowledge that I have read the Privacy Policy . You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. A new look isn't always the best Every year in the automotive industry, models are refreshed or redesigned due to aging styling, shifting consumer demand, fierce competition from other brands, technological advancements, and even regulatory pressures that necessitate change. Any or all of the aforementioned reasons can fuel changes, but the results aren't always positive. Sometimes designs look worse (the 7th-gen Hyundai Sonata comes to mind), and sometimes radical changes push customers away (the next Jaguar?). Despite refreshes, redesigns, and tech upgrades, several 2025 models are piling up on dealer lots. The good news is that this can result in great deals for would-be buyers who might be able to leverage poor sales figures for a good deal. These five newly redesigned or refreshed vehicles may have received positive reviews from critics, but they are languishing in the sales race. 0:04 / 0:09 Automakers brace for uncertain future amid Trump's tariff pause Watch More 2025 Nissan Murano 2025 Nissan Murano — Source: Porsche The totally redesigned 2025 Nissan Murano ($40,070 base MSRP) looks nothing like its predecessors, despite the sleek overall shape. It had to play catch-up with the likes of the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Mazda CX-70. It arrived with fresh looks, premium materials, and an updated tech suite, but its late redesign rollout means it's got a lot of ground to gain in a competitive midsize SUV field. The Murano hasn't quite resonated with would-be buyers as a result. Murano sales figures aren't what Nissan had hoped, with dealer reports showing a 153-day inventory sitting on dealer lots and Nissan slowing production by 21% in response. It's still early in the game for the Murano, and things could change for the model if Nissan continues to push dealer incentives. 2025 Nissan Murano — Source: Nissan Every Murano is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine good for 241 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Standard features include LED headlights, 20' gloss black aluminum-alloy wheels, heated front seats, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch reconfigurable LCD instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless device charging, dual-zone climate, Safety Shield 360, power liftgate, and a tire-specific tire pressure monitoring system. For 2025, the EV6 ($42,900) received a refresh that added sharper styling, a larger 84.0-kWh battery that replaces the old 77.4-kWh unit in higher trims, and in-car tech enhancements, yet sales have struggled. Slowed sales can be attributed to market saturation, especially from newer models like the Chevrolet Equinox EV and the Honda Prologue. EV adoption has also slowed, so an older model like the EV6 may have an uphill battle against the newer players. Its range is between 231 and 319 miles, depending on trim level, and it comes in either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configuration. Despite the EV6 refresh, it's among the slowest-selling new cars with a 217-day surplus inventory. Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. That was two years ago, and now the Taycan is hurting badly. The 2025 Porsche Taycan ($103,900 base MSRP) gets a mild exterior refresh with subtle changes to the front bumper, headlights, fenders, and taillights. Porsche has also improved the car's DC fast-charging capabilities. Despite this, as well as rave reviews from critics, interest in the Taycan has waned quickly. Tepid sales can be attributed to factors like its high price (the Taycan Turbo GT costs $240,000), rapid depreciation, and a cooling EV market, not to mention more premium EV players in the game. The Taycan's painful 229-day inventory makes it one of the slowest-selling cars this month. 2025 Porsche Taycan — Source: Porsche The Taycan comes standard with a 274 miles of range from a 83.6-kWh battery pack, 19-inch aerodynamic wheels, Matrix LED headlights, power-folding exterior mirrors, 8-way power adjustable front seats with heat, heated steering wheel, a 16.8-inch curved instrument display, a 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless device charging, ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, parking assist, traffic sign recognition, lane change assist, and driver awareness detection. Learn more here. 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack — Source: Stellantis Dodge's muscle car of the future isn't what it was cracked up to be. The all-electric Charger Daytona is powerful (496-670 horsepower) thanks to its dual motors and powerful battery packs. Even its retro-futuristic styling, however, couldn't draw in enough buyers. Whether it's the base R/T ($59,595 base MSRP) or the Scat Pack ($73,985), the Charger Daytona seems to have alienated customers who want the sound, fury, and feel of a gas-powered street rod. Sales never took off since the car's debut last year, and there's now a 241-day supply sitting on dealer lots. The result has been a planned return of the HEMI V8 engine and a new line of gas-powered muscle cars. Loyalists have voted with their feet, walking away from dealerships and incentives in hopes that Dodge will listen. The brand has even canceled production of the base R/T trim for next year. We hardly knew ya. 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona EV — Source: Dodge The Charger Daytona R/T comes standard with 308 miles of range from a 100.5 kWh battery, all-wheel drive, LED headlights and DRLs, LED taillights, heated exterior mirrors, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, voice-activated navigation, wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, Alpine 9-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, heated steering wheel, performance seats, simulated 'Fratzonic' exhaust, and a tire pressure monitor. Learn more here. 2025.5 Volvo XC90 2025.5 Volvo XC90 — Source: Volvo The redesigned 2025.5 XC90 follows on the heels of one of the most beautiful premium SUVs on earth. The three-row mild-hybrid or PHEV Scandinavians are a visual delight inside and out, and the refresh modernizes them, giving them a more cohesive look along with much-needed in-car tech improvements, smoother suspension, and improved upholstery choices. Despite its superb safety, PHEV convenience, and smooth driving manners, the facelifted XC90 has struggled to win customers. It has to fight against premium SUVs from Mercedes, BMW, and Lexus, and the refreshed model didn't arrive until partway through 2025. Inventory data isn't available, but sales figures in 2025 so far have been lackluster, at best. Estimates are about 200 days' worth of inventory sitting on dealer lots. 2025 Volvo XC90 PHEV — Source: Volvo Standard features of the 2025 Volvo XC90 include 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, power driver's seat with memory, a 12.3-inch driver instrument display, 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a head-up display, four-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, parking assist, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, a 360 camera, and a crystal gear selector. Learn more here. Final thoughts Just because a vehicle has been redesigned or refreshed doesn't mean it's a guaranteed success. Sometimes, it just comes down to timing or the market, even if the vehicle is spectacular. These are five examples of vehicles that have earned good reviews but still fail to resonate with customers. Will any of them see the level of success their manufacturers hoped for, or will they die an ignominious death in the slow sales aisle of the auto industry? Even with aggressive dealer incentives and discounted pricing, they have an uphill battle ahead. We would love to see them all succeed, but not all of them will. If automakers improve standard features, drop MSRPs, clarify brand identity, and slow down production, these models may chip away at the surplus. About the Author Amos Kwon View Profile

Cupholders vs. Cargo Space: What Car Buyers Want in 2025
By signing up I agree to the Terms of Use and acknowledge that I have read the Privacy Policy . You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. Research and compare vehicles, too. Cupholders have quietly graduated from afterthought to headline feature in U.S. vehicles — yet their design still trips up more drivers than you'd guess. J.D. Power's 2025 U.S. Initial Quality Study reports that cupholder‐related complaints climbed 12% year-over-year, making them one of the top 15 most-cited interior issues. So what are the feature priorities for U.S. car buyers? There are 3 clear numbers out in front, and then also-rans. Important also-rans. But lagging fuel, safety, and price: The Cupholder Craze Notice 'cupholder count' never cracks this list — but that doesn't mean they're irrelevant. Today's automakers brag about 'seven-point spill defense' and modular inserts that grip everything from a 16-oz. paper cup to a 32-oz. steel tumbler. Still, drivers report flaky retention and odd geometries that leave your reusable bottle wobbling or sloshing coffee over the console. This quantifiable complaint-surge in 2025 is driven in part by the surge in popularity of insulated tumblers and wide-mouth bottles. Cargo Space: The Silent Hero Cargo volume remains a major selling point — Statista's 2024 survey places it at 35% importance among buyers. SUVs alone accounted for roughly half of 2024 new-vehicle sales, while pickups added another 25%, underscoring Americans' appetite for flexible load floors. Fold-flat seats, under-floor bins and removable dividers now populate spec sheets, even if marketing videos rarely spotlight cubic feet. The Design Dance: Function Meets Flair Balancing cupholders with cargo isn't just an exercise in console sculpting. Engineers must integrate spill-resistant geometry without sacrificing knee room or dead-flat storage. In the latest midsize SUVs, you'll find four deep-well rings up front and a retractable rubber mat in the trunk that clicks into place — because a rogue soda can rolling around at 70 mph can rattle more than your teeth. Real-World Rituals Look in any parking lot at dawn and you'll spot the rituals these features enable: latching a travel mug into its padded cradle, then stashing a gym bag in the rear hatch before the commute. Cleaning-hack videos abound — channels like this Chemical Brothers tutorial on ejecting liner rings and rinsing spilled Gatorade from console crevices — proof that cupholders now demand as much TLC as oil changes. Bottom Line Fuel efficiency, safety and price still reign supreme in buyers' minds. Cargo space holds its own in the battle for third place. Cupholders don't show up on headline stats, but rising complaint rates and DIY cleanup videos tell another story: in the land of drive-thru breakfasts and tailgate parties, a well-designed cupholder is nothing short of essential.
