Andhra Pradesh Chambers welcomes two-slab GST structure
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) has welcomed the Union government's proposal to move towards a simplified two-slab GST structure. In a release on Saturday, AP Chambers president Potluri Bhaskara Rao and generals secretary B Rajasekhar stated that the move marks a step towards simplification, transparency, and efficiency in tax system. 'It is a much-needed reform that promises to reduce compliance burden and bring clarity to the tax regime. AP Chambers, for many years, has been requesting the Union government to rationalise the GST slabs and bring down the slab rates for key sectors. A simplified GST with fewer rate slabs will not only ease tax compliance for businesses, especially MSMEs, but also reduce classification disputes, promote consistency, lower operational costs, and enhance revenue predictability,' the release said. The AP Chambers observed that the reform comes at a crucial time for the MSME sector, which has been under distress due to rising input costs, regulatory challenges, and market uncertainties. Critical sectors like food processing, textiles, handicrafts, and rural industries should be included in the 5% GST slab to further support employment, affordability, and rural development.

State to raise aquaculture sector to global standards
Vijayawada: State's aquaculture sector will be developed to meet international standards, said minister for agriculture and fisheries K Atchannaidu. He made the announcement during the first meeting of the Andhra Pradesh State Aquaculture Development Agency (APSADA) executive committee, held at the Secretariat on Wednesday. The meeting, which was presided over by minister Atchannaidu, focused on strategies to enhance fishery resources and improve product quality, boost export potential, and increase farmers' incomes. Several key decisions were made to ensure sustainable growth in the sector. The minister emphasised that by adopting modern technology and eco-friendly practices, the state can strengthen its position in the international market. In order to streamline the licensing process and improve the traceability of seafood exports, all aquaculture units will be required to register online under the APSADA Act. This move is also intended to ensure that all farmers can access government schemes and financial assistance. Atchannaidu issued a strict warning against the use of poultry waste as fish feed, citing it as a risk to public health and a source of water pollution. He stated that the licenses of offenders would be canceled and criminal cases would be filed. The committee approved projects for mariculture and cage culture in reservoirs to be implemented on an experimental basis. These initiatives aim to increase fish production by 5 lakh tonnes and provide new livelihood opportunities for fishermen. Plans were also made to promote seaweed cultivation in coastal areas. In response to the 50 percent tariff on Indian shrimp exports to the U.S., the Minister directed officials to explore new markets in South Korea, Europe, the U.K., the Middle East, Russia, and Africa. He highlighted the potential of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the UK and urged exporters to focus on value-added products. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is also in discussions with the Central Government to address the issue. A decision was made to establish the Andhra Pradesh Prawn Producers Coordination Committee to promote domestic shrimp consumption, modeled after the NECC (National Egg Coordination Committee). The meeting was attended by APSADA co-vice chairman Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy, special chief secretary (fisheries) B Rajasekhar, commissioner of fisheries Rama Shankar Naik, and other executive committee members.

Andhra to upgrade aquaculture sector to global standards: Minister
Amaravati, Aug 13 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh will develop its aquaculture sector in line with international standards to position it on the global stage, Fisheries Minister K Atchannaidu said on Wednesday. Chairing the first meeting of the Executive Committee of the Andhra Pradesh State Aquaculture Development Agency (APSADA), the minister discussed fishery resources, export potential, and measures to enhance farmers' incomes. 'Andhra Pradesh's aquaculture sector will be developed in line with international standards and positioned on the global stage," Atchannaidu said in a release, adding that modern technology, eco-friendly practices, and scientific methods would be adopted to boost production and strengthen the state's share in the international market. Aquaculture farmers can now register ponds online under APSADA to avail government schemes, improve seafood export quality, and ensure traceability, he announced. The minister warned against the alleged practice of using poultry waste as fish feed in some areas, saying it was harmful to public health. 'Licences will be cancelled and criminal cases filed against offenders," he cautioned. The committee approved mariculture and cage culture projects in reservoirs to improve fishermen's livelihoods, including those of women, and promote seaweed cultivation in suitable coastal areas to create local employment. In light of the 50 per cent tariff the United States will impose on Indian shrimp exports from August 27, Atchannaidu directed officials to explore new markets with the assistance of the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA). Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is in talks with the Centre over the tariff issue, and plans are underway to set up an Andhra Pradesh Prawn Producers Coordination Committee, he said. The minister also urged exporters and processors to focus on value-added products and leverage opportunities under the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United Kingdom.
