Rico Bogen hoping momentum can lead to back-to-back T100 victories
Rico Bogen hopes the momentum from his first T100 World Triathlon Tour victory can carry him to the top of the podium again in Vancouver. Bogen claimed his maiden T100 victory with a dominant performance in San Francisco in May, lifting him to the top of the overall standings after two races. The German now hopes that having earned a first race win, he can repeat the feat on a new course for all athletes in Canada just two weeks after the San Francisco leg. 'I have the momentum on my side but it's a new day and a strong field,' he said. 'Let's see how the others are in the race and if I can perform like I did in San Francisco. 'It's hard to do it back-to-back, and it's such a strong field. I am in a good mood and want to have fun out there. 'It gave me confidence, now I know I can win a race like the T100 with such a strong field. You are always a little bit nervous for the race, but this gave me confidence that with a good training block I can beat everybody. 'It would be very cool to win back-to-back races, and it would be very good for the overall series.'

Bogen finished 10th on the first stop in Singapore before rocketing up the rankings with victory in San Francisco, but knows another good result is required in Vancouver ahead of the tour's European legs in France and the UK. The race in Vancouver is the first time the T100 has taken place in the Canadian city, and Bogen hopes his time reconnecting with nature can help him to another strong result. 'The course is very similar to San Francisco so we didn't change too much in training,' he said. We came straight from San Francisco, it's important to be able to fully reset and train. 'It's my first time here in Canada. Last week I travelled in a camper with my parents. We visited a bit of nature, it's beautiful. I love nature and I love a little bit more silence 'It's such a cool city. It's perfect conditions for triathlon. The bike course looks cool, a bit of technical stuff and a bit of hills.' Former Arsenal star Ian Wright has given a clear verdict in the debate over Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko after the Gunners opted to sign the former this summer as Manchester United signed Sesko Ian Wright reckons Viktor Gyokeres will be on another level to Benjamin Sesko in the Premier League this season. But former Manchester United captain Gary Neville caught Wright's ire when establishing targets for the Red Devils' new frontline. The Salford City owner wants to see Sesko, along with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, combine to hit 35 goals, of which the Slovenia international could be content with ten. Wright was incredulous at Neville's suggestion after the pundit had disregarded the same figure being enough for Gyokeres. 'You look at Sesko and he scored 13 goals in 38 games in the German league (sic), Marmoush left in December (23 January) and had 15,' Wright said on the Overlap. 'That says to me as a striker that he should be scoring more at that level, so you're coming to United… I think Gyökeres… he's got such great ability and physical, I think he's going to be another [level]. He'll get 15 [goals]. 'But that is a worrym 13 for a whole season, that would be a worry for me… what if he [Sesko] got 10 goals [in the Premier League ]? What if he got 10? Because you just turned your nose up at me when I mentioned Gyökeres and 10 [goals], and now you're thinking about Šeško and 10 [goals]." "I don't care [that Gyökeres is further in his career]," he added. "It's Man United and you have to expect it… am I hearing this right?! Why can't I have [10 goals] for Gyökeres? When I said 10 you turned your nose up like I was smelling poo.' Sesko's agent recent gave his interpretation of why a move to Arsenal did not materialise despite the Gunners making the early progress for a transfer. "It's hard to say exactly," Elvis Basanovic said. "Whenever a deal doesn't go through, there are always several factors. In the end, everything has to align for it to happen. "What's important here is that Benjamin's wish, for years now, has always been United. And for United, he was even willing to take a pay cut to make the move happen. As his agent, I wanted to make that wish come true."

Howard Webb thinks a return to refereeing for David Coote is unlikely
Former Premier League match official Coote was on Tuesday given an eight-week suspension by the Football Association over abusive words he used about ex-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. He was sacked by Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) in December, a month after the video filmed in July 2020 came to light. The 43-year-old has a potential route back into football after the FA said he would be free to officiate again after serving the ban and completing an education programme. But PGMOL boss Webb feels that is unlikely. 'I think it'd be really difficult for David to come back, I'm afraid to say,' said Webb. 'He's somebody that we stayed in contact with, somebody who was part of our refereeing family for a long time and served the game for a long period of time and I've known him personally for many years. 'It's sad what happened with David but I think it would be challenging for him to come back.' Coote's misconduct was defined as an aggravated breach under the FA's rules because there was a reference to Klopp's nationality. In the video, he described Klopp as a 'German c***' and said he was 'f****** arrogant'. Coote was banned by European football's governing body UEFA until June 30, 2026 after a different video emerged of him snorting a white powder through a bank note while in Germany for Euro 2024. In January, Coote came out as gay and said a lifelong struggle to hide his sexuality had contributed to the rant about Klopp and his drug use. Webb said PGMOL has reviewed and 'beefed up' its support for match officials and their families in the wake of Coote's downfall. 'When it became apparent David had made some bad choices away from the football field, we had to care for him and we had to try to understand why he'd made some of those choices and were they connected to the job,' said Webb. 'We spoke to all of our officials and there was some feedback from them about the support that they think they need. 'It was a good time for us to reflect on the services that we do provide. 'We've got sports psychologists and some element of mental health and wellbeing and support. But there was a recognition that could be beefed up.' Webb, who took charge of the 2010 Champions League and World Cup finals before retiring in 2014, encouraged match officials to be open about personal issues. 'I don't want officials to have a fear that if they step forward and say, 'can we have a chat?' that that's going to impact their appointments,' said the 54-year-old. 'We wanted to really emphasise to them that doing that was a sign of strength and not weakness. 'I think we've made good ground over the last few months in that respect because we've probably not had those conversations previously. I think we've had a few of them since. 'Having been there myself, traditionally you'd say I've got to show strength, I've got to show nobody's getting to me, I've got a thick skin. But I think over time it can weigh you down.'
