ET Intelligence Group: Aegis Vopak Terminals (AVTL), which operates liquid and gas storage tank terminals across major ports in India, plans to raise ₹2,800 crore through fresh equity to repay debt and to fund capital expenditure. AVTL is a joint venture between Aegis Logistics , which owns 50.1%, and the Netherlands-based Vopak, which holds 47.4%. After the IPO , the promoter group holding will fall to nearly 87% from the current 97.4%.A higher interest outgo impacted net profit of the company in the past. This will change for the better once it repays debt by using the IPO proceeds worth ₹2,015.9 crore. The utilisation of the existing capacities is likely to improve as the number of customers increases. In addition, it is in the process of expanding terminal capacity across ports, which is expected to improve future profit. These factors indicate a high growth potential even though the financial performance in the past three years may look subdued. MMRDA seeks full financial breakdown from L&T after scrapping Thane-Bhayander twin projects

Mumbai: Days after scrapping tenders for two major infrastructure projects—the Thane-Ghodbunder Road tunnel and the Ghodbunder-Bhayander elevated road—the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has asked construction giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to submit a complete breakdown of its financial estimates. The move follows a legal tussle between L&T and the MMRDA over the awarding of the ₹15,182.87 crore contracts to Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL). L&T had challenged the MMRDA's decision in the Bombay High Court and subsequently in the Supreme Court, alleging it had been unfairly disqualified despite submitting bids that were collectively ₹3,130 crore lower than MEIL's. In a letter dated Tuesday, MMRDA has asked L&T to furnish detailed financial documents related to both projects. These include calculation sheets, explanatory notes, rate analysis, and justifications submitted as part of the original bid. A copy of the letter reviewed by Hindustan Times shows that the MMRDA intends to archive the documents as part of official records and for transparency in the tendering process. According to L&T's bid, the firm had quoted ₹12,052 crore for both projects— ₹5,554 crore for the elevated road and ₹6,498 crore for the tunnel. In comparison, MEIL's winning bid amounted to ₹15,182.87 crore, with ₹9,019.53 crore for the elevated road and ₹6,163.34 crore for the tunnel. The projects are part of MMRDA's broader road expansion initiative and are seen as critical extensions of the Mumbai Coastal Road. The first involves construction of twin tunnels spanning 5.7 km between Gaumukh and Fountain Hotel junction on Thane Ghodbunder Road. The second entails an 11.42 km elevated road connecting Ghodbunder Road to Bhayander, including a bridge over the Vasai Creek. The tendering process began in July 2024. L&T submitted its technical bid in December, which was opened on January 1, 2025. However, in May, the company learned it had been excluded from the financial bidding round. Though the Bombay High Court initially stayed the opening of the financial bids, it later ruled against L&T on May 20, prompting the firm to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court. Originally slated for completion by the end of 2028 and opening to traffic in early 2029, both projects now face delays of at least six months due to the ongoing legal dispute.

A Mumbai-based autorickshaw driver, once celebrated online for his out-of-the-box entrepreneurial spirit , has seen his thriving venture abruptly shut down. What started as a smart, demand-driven side hustle earning him between Rs 5 to Rs 8 lakh monthly has now ended under the weight of legal and security driver had ingeniously addressed a major gap near the US Consulate in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. Due to strict security protocols, applicants visiting the consulate were prohibited from carrying their personal belongings, including bags, inside the premises. Spotting a unique business opportunity in this limitation, the autodriver parked just outside the building and offered to safely store bags for visa applicants. His service gained popularity quickly, particularly because no official storage or locker facility existed to a Hindustan Times report, after the driver's innovative setup gained widespread attention through a LinkedIn post, it attracted not only praise but also scrutiny. The recognition came from Rahul Rupani, a product leader at Lenskart, who highlighted the autodriver's daily routine of serving 20 to 30 clients, generating impressive earnings of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 per day. Rupani applauded his street-smart business model and noted that his monthly income rivaled that of experienced professionals in the corporate world—despite his lack of formal business training or technical this burst of attention also reached the authorities. As reports of the operation spread, Mumbai Police quickly stepped in. Officials summoned the autodriver and a dozen others who were offering similar services near the consulate. According to a senior officer from the BKC police station, the operations were in direct conflict with local security mandates. The consulate is a high-security zone, and no parking or unauthorized commercial activity is allowed nearby, especially involving the storage of unverified personal police noted that neither the autodriver nor the others involved had obtained any formal permission to provide storage services. Storing random belongings in such a sensitive area was deemed a potential security threat. As a result, the locker service was promptly terminated, and strict warnings were issued to all individuals involved to cease and desist from restarting any similar service in the started as an inspiring example of entrepreneurial grit has ended in silence. The autodriver's story now stands as a reminder: while innovation can spark success, going viral without legal safeguards can sometimes shut the very doors it opens.
