England set to face Fiji, South Africa and Argentina in inaugural Nations Championship matches
England are set to begin their inaugural Nations Championship campaign in just over a year's time by playing Fiji – potentially in Europe – as well as away matches against the back-to-back world champions South Africa and Argentina, the Guardian understands. The 12-team competition, which will be held every two years and replaces traditional tours, is set to break new ground next year in the northern hemisphere summer and while the fixture list is yet to be announced, the Guardian has learned current proposals put England in line to face the Springboks in South Africa for the first time since 2018. A return to Argentina – where Steve Borthwick's side will face two Tests this summer – is also on the cards. Advertisement Related: Qatar Airways agrees £80m sponsorship deal for rugby union's Nations Championship As per tournament protocols, England's proposed match with Fiji would take place in either South Africa or Argentina but it is understood the Pacific Islanders would want the fixture to take place in Europe, mostly likely France where a substantial portion of their squad is based. Should that materialise, it is expected England would play Fiji first before travelling to South Africa and Argentina. The format of the competition sees the 12 teams split into two conferences - the Six Nations in one and the four Sanzaar countries and two others, expected to be Japan and Fiji, in another. The Sanzaar conference is effectively split into two blocks and the lowest ranked team in each play on neutral territory in an effort to minimise travel. Rather than play in either South Africa or Argentina, however, Fiji are hoping to host England in France while Twickenham has also been mooted as a possible venue. The Six Nations conference is also split into two blocks so two other nations are set to have the same fixtures as England next summer while the other three would face Australia, Japan and New Zealand. The Six Nations countries then host the three nations they have not yet played the following autumn, meaning England would welcome Australia, Japan and New Zealand to Twickenham in the autumn of 2026. Results from summer and autumn matches contributing to a final ranking. Advertisement On finals weekend, the top teams in each conference will meet each other, with second playing second, and so on, to determine the final rankings. The first grand final is set to be held at Twickenham while other stadiums in London are expected to be used for some of the other ranking matches. Previously the autumn Test window officially only allowed for nations to have access to their players for three weeks so as a trade-off, next year's Six Nations will be truncated to six weeks with one of the rest weeks removed. The Nations Championship is set to take place every two years, avoiding a clash with British & Irish Lions tours as well as the World Cup. The 2028 finals weekend is set to be held in the Middle East and the United States is the frontrunner to stage the 2030 edition, a year before hosting the World Cup. The Nations Championship will be run by the Six Nations and Sanzaar with World Rugby overseeing a tier two competition. Promotion to tier one is not due to happen until 2032 at the earliest, however. Negotiations over a lucrative broadcast deal that would encompass both summer and autumn fixtures are said to be at an advanced stage with TNT Sports considered the frontrunners after a successful first autumn campaign last year.

Brooklyn and Nicola vs The Beckhams: Inside the rumoured family feud
Fans and tabloids have been speculating about the the alleged feud between David and Victoria Beckham's eldest son, Brooklyn, and his wife, Nicola Peltz, and the rest of the family. The two parties are seemingly on bad terms, after the couple have seldom appeared in family photos or been seen at events. Reports of the family rift first started in 2022, when it was rumoured that Victoria and Nicola were feuding after her wedding to Brooklyn. Rumours have been swirling about where David and Victoria Beckham's eldest son, Brooklyn, and his wife, Nicola Peltz, stand with the rest of the family. Fans and tabloids have speculated that the two parties are on bad terms, with the couple seldom appearing in family photos or being seen at events, according to The Standard. Page Six reported last month that Brooklyn Beckham apparently avoided his parents during a trip to London, with Victoria and David not even knowing he was in town. According to The Daily Mail, Brooklyn was only five minutes away from his parents during his visit. A source told Page Six that it was 'becoming increasingly clear' that there is family strain among the Beckhams. It has been rumoured that Brooklyn has chosen Nicola over the rest of his family, which points to why he has neglected spending time with them. A video posted by Brooklyn on Instagram showing him with Nicola on a motorcycle may illustrate why this rumour has been circulating. View this post on Instagram A post shared by @brooklynpeltzbeckham The video's caption reads: 'My whole world x I will love you forever x I always choose you, baby x you're the most amazing person I know xx me and you forever, baby.' A week after this post, Cruz Beckham, Victoria and David's youngest son, shared a post on his Instagram story, writing: 'It takes 43 muscles in your face to frown, and 17 to smile. Be kind and tell the truth.' This cryptic message has caused more discussion about the feud in the family. READ | Brooklyn Beckham's London trip exposes family rift: 'They didn't know he was there' Yet, Victoria's Instagram posts of family photos, which include Brooklyn, have seemingly counteracted some of the speculation, or at least tried to. TMZ claimed that tensions started between brothers Romeo and Brooklyn after the former started dating DJ Kim Turnball. The publication reported that Turnball had dated Brooklyn in the past. However, Cruz said in an Instagram comment that Brooklyn and Turnball never dated, according to The Standard. However, insiders said Romeo and Turnball's relationship has, in fact, been a source of tension with Brooklyn and Nicola, who have been absent from family functions since Romeo and Turnball started dating, according to The Standard. For example, Brooklyn and Nicola didn't show up for David's 50th birthday in May. There has also been a lack of public social media interaction between the rest of the Beckham family and Brooklyn and Nicola. Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic Sources told The Daily Mail that Brooklyn and Nicola had been receiving support from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as both couples have 'similar family feuds'. A source told People in May that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had hosted Brooklyn and Nicola, along with other notable guests, for dinner at their home in California. Amid the speculations of a feud, Brooklyn and Nicola have also hired a lawyer, Jenny Afi, from the Schillings law firm. A source told E! that the hire was 'not for reputation management, but to set the record straight, combat spread of misinformation'. Though this same lawyer worked with Meghan and Harry, the source said it was just a coincidence that Brooklyn and Nicola also hired her. 'There is absolutely no connection to Meghan and Harry. Schillings is a respected firm with a wide range of clients.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Victoria Beckham (@victoriabeckham) Reports of the family rift first started in 2022, when it was rumoured that Victoria and Nicola were feuding after her wedding to Brooklyn. At the wedding, Brooklyn and Nicola thought actor Marc Anthony would introduce their first dance. But Anthony ended up making the moment about Victoria, according to E!. 'Marc Anthony announced, 'Please welcome to the stage the most beautiful woman in the room… Victoria Beckham.' Brooklyn wasn't quite sure what to do and was put in an awkward situation,' a source told the publication. Nicola left the room crying, but returned to the celebrations later in the evening. After the wedding, Victoria and Nicola seemed to be on good terms, sharing friendly social media posts about one another and having affable in-person interactions. In an interview with Glamour magazine, Brooklyn and Nicola were asked how they protect their relationship in such a public spotlight. Brooklyn replied: 'Ignore the noise. Keep your head down, work hard, be kind. People are always going to talk. What matters is that we're happy together.'

Nations League final four: France, Spain, Germany, Portugal face off amid tiredness and injuries
BERLIN (AP) — No rest for the winners. Sandwiched between the Champions League final and Club World Cup, the Nations League final four provides another opportunity to win a trophy for players who might have more need of a break. Seven France players, four from Portugal, and one each from Spain and Germany were involved as Paris Saint-Germain defeated Inter Milan in the Champions League final on Saturday. Germany defender Yann Aurel Bisseck was injured playing for Inter and will miss the Nations League semifinal against Portugal in Munich on Wednesday. PSG players Gonçalo Ramos, João Neves, Nuno Mendes and Vitinha will need to shake off any lingering effects from celebrations before they play for Portugal. France plays Spain in the other semifinal in Stuttgart on Thursday, when Spain's Fabián Ruiz is likely to start in midfield despite starring in midfield for PSG on Saturday. France players Désiré Doué, Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembélé , Lucas Hernandez and Warren Zaïre-Emery all helped PSG end its long wait to lift the Champions League trophy. France players Marcus Thuram and Benjamin Pavard were on the losing side for Inter Milan . While France coach Didier Deschamps will need to assess the impact of PSG's partying on his players, three of his preferred four-man backline are also injured. William Saliba, Dayot Upamecano and Jules Koundé are all out. Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is also injured as a long season takes its toll. The winners of each semifinal will contest the final in Munich on Sunday. The losers won't get a break yet — they'll need to play in Stuttgart to decide third place. What is the Nations League? The new competition was formed in 2018 to replace what UEFA called 'meaningless friendlies' with competitive games pitting equally ranked teams against each other. For this, it set up a league structure with four divisions containing groups of national teams, then – from this edition – a new knockout round after the group phase among the top division's group winners and runners-up to determine which play in the finals. In the quarterfinals, Spain defeated the Netherlands on penalties , France also needed penalties against Croatia, Germany defeated Italy 5-4 on aggregate, and Portugal beat Denmark 5-3 on aggregate. It ensured all three previous winners of the competition – Portugal (2019), France (2021) and Spain (2023) – qualified for the final four along with host Germany. How important is the Nations League? Spain used success in 2023 as a springboard for winning the European Championship in 2024, and France reached the World Cup final in 2022 after winning the Nations League the year before. While fans might struggle to remember previous winners amid an increasingly packed schedule, coaches and players welcome the competitive edge it provides. For Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, it's a chance to win his first title. Though not comparable to winning a European Championship or World Cup, it would restore some pride in German soccer after the national team's decline following its 2014 World Cup win. Key facts — France's game with Spain is a repeat of their Euro 2024 semifinal, when the team starring Lamine Yamal got the better of Kylian Mbappé's France on its way to lifting the title. — Lyon attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki could make his debut for France. — Isco is back for Spain after a six-year-absence. The 33-year-old former Real Madrid star enjoyed a stellar season at Real Betis. — Germany captain Joshua Kimmich would make his 100th national team appearance if he plays against Portugal. — With Jamal Musiala out injured, Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz will be under more pressure to create openings for Germany. — Porto star Rodrigo Mora was called up by Portugal for the first time. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder has been linked with a host of clubs including Manchester United, Barcelona and PSG. — The evergreen Cristiano Ronaldo, now 40, will lead Portugal again. He might not get a break after this tournament either. ___ AP soccer:
