Air frying has completely changed the speed and convenience for home cooking – and Jamie Oliver loves it too.
'Without question, it's a super useful piece of cooking equipment,' says the 49-year-old chef, whose latest cookbook is Easy Air Fryer.
'Oven chips are magnificent in the air fryer, but there's so much more to it than that. I wanted to go beyond the usual.
'The air fryer is really useful if you have a family, with kids turning up at different times of the day. Because, let's face it, the idea of the whole family sitting together at the table only happens about twice a week – so, when you have children coming back from after-school clubs hungry, you can bang something in the air fryer and have it on the table in no time at all.'
Here are three recipes to try.
Posh fish and chips
Hands on: 22 minutesCook: 30 minutes2-drawer air fryer
Ingredients: (Serves 2)
500g potatoesOlive oil1 free-range egg½tsp smoked paprika10g Parmesan cheese1 thick slice of seeded wholemeal bread (40g)2 x 130g salmon fillets, skin on, scaled, pin-boned, from sustainable sources1tbsp plain flour1 x 340g jar of baby cornichons160g frozen peas2 sprigs of mint
Method:
1. Scrub the potatoes, chop lengthways into two centimetre-wedges, place in the large air-fryer drawer, toss with one tablespoon of olive oil and a pinch of sea salt and black pepper, and arrange in a single layer. Cook for 30 minutes at 200°C, or until golden and cooked through, shaking halfway.
2. Beat the egg, paprika and a little seasoning in a shallow bowl. Finely grate the Parmesan into a food processor, tear in the bread, add one tablespoon of oil and blitz into fine crumbs, then spread across a plate.
3. Dust the salmon with the flour, then dip into the egg mixture, letting any excess drip off. Coat in the breadcrumbs, spending a bit of time really patting them on. Evenly space in the small drawer and cook for 10 minutes at 200°C, or until golden and just cooked through.
4. Meanwhile, to make a gherkin ketchup, empty the jar of cornichons, and half their juice, into the food processor and blitz until smooth. Spoon out two portions, then pour the rest back into the jar and pop it in the fridge for future meals, where it will keep happily for up to two weeks.
5. Cook the peas for four minutes in boiling salted water, then drain, reserving a little cooking water. Tip them into the food processor (there's no need to clean it), pick in the mint leaves and blitz, loosening with splashes of reserved water, if needed, then season to perfection and cover to keep warm.
6. Serve up the fish and chips with the minty peas and gherkin ketchup.

Teriyaki pork ribs
Hands on: 6 minutesCook: 55 minutes1-drawer air fryer
Ingredients: (Serves 2)
40g caster sugar40ml low-salt soy sauce1tbsp rice wine vinegar2cm piece of ginger1 clove of garlic1tbsp cornflour1 higher-welfare rack of baby back ribs (600g)Olive oil2 spring onions
Method:
1. Remove the shelf from the air-fryer drawer and go in with the sugar, soy and vinegar, along with 300 millilitres of water. Peel and finely grate in the ginger and garlic, add the cornflour and mix to combine, then replace the shelf.
2. Rub the rack of ribs with a little olive oil and a pinch of sea salt, then place it on the shelf (cut it in half to help it fit, if needed). Cook for 50 minutes at 160°C, or until the meat is tender and starting to get gnarly.
3. Use tongs to carefully remove the shelf, tipping the ribs into the sauce, then turn the ribs to coat. Cook for another five minutes at 200°C, or until the sauce sets and darkens on the ribs and the surrounding sauce thickens, too.
4. Slice up the ribs, then trim, finely slice and scatter over the spring onions. Pour the remaining sauce into a bowl, for dunking. Great served with sticky rice and zingy seasonal greens.

Pear and blackberry crumble
Hands on: 12 minutesCook: 50 minutes1-drawer air fryer
Ingredients: (Serves 6)
4 ripe pears2 eating apples2 balls of stem ginger in syrup300g blackberries100g cold unsalted butter1 large orange100g porridge oats60g demerara sugar1 pinch of ground cinnamon100g cornflakes
Method:
1. Cut the pears and apples into sixths, removing the core. Finely chop the stem ginger. Remove the shelf from the air fryer, then place the pears, apples, blackberries and ginger inside with a knob of the butter, the orange zest and juice, and two tablespoons of stem ginger syrup. Mix together and cook for 40 minutes at 180°C, or until the fruit has softened, stirring halfway.
2. Meanwhile, place the oats in a bowl, cube up and add the remaining butter, then rub together with your thumbs and fingertips. Add the sugar and cinnamon, scrunch in the cornflakes, and mix well.
3. Scatter the crumble mixture over the fruit and cook for another 10 minutes at 180°C, or until golden and bubbling, then dish up straight from the drawer. Great with custard, crème fraîche or ice cream.

But it's no longer just the humble barbecue taking centre-stage in our gardens. In recent years, outdoor pizza ovens have grown in popularity, providing a quick and easy way to feed a garden full of friends and family. And, once you have the kit, the pizzas cost next to nothing to make. While they can range vastly in price, from Ninja's £475 Artisan Electric Outdoor Pizza Oven, to Jamie Oliver's Tefal Gas Pizza Oven, retailing for £299, Vonhaus has launched a more budget-friendly option for those looking to try their hand at pizza-making. The wood pellet-fueled Vonhaus Outdoor Pizza Oven is currently on sale for £119, though if it's your first venture into the world of pizza-making I'd definitely recommend splurging on the £169.99 kit which includes a couple of vital accessories if you're not already kitted-out. Pros Storage bag Useful tools - peel/cutter/board Compact Makes great pizzas Excellent pizza cutter Cons No temperature gauge - requires a thermometer, which is not included Burns through pellets very quickly Setup The oven itself was relatively straightforward to put together, with clear instructions, so we were up and running in about half an hour. One thing that tripped us up on first use was the pre-heating instruction to 'monitor temperature every five minutes using a suitable Thermal Measurement Gun ' until the oven reaches the recommended 400°C temperature. We also came equipped with the aforementioned wood pellets, but being complete newbies to the world of wood-fired cooking, we didn't realise we'd need natural wood firelighters to get it going until we reached that step in the instructions. This was easily remedied. Baking It was at this point we realised the oven itself doesn't come with a temperature gauge. On first use, we played it by ear, gave the stone plenty of time to heat up, and the pizzas came out well with close monitoring and rotating every 30 seconds or so, despite the guesswork. We'd definitely invest in a thermometer in future so the cooking times are more precise for future uses. Another nice touch might have been some basic dough and sauce recipes to get those started who are new to the world of pizza-making. But I found both fairly quickly online, and had plenty of homemade sauce left over for the freezer after. One tip I found useful was to use a sprinkle of semolina on the pizza paddle. Not only does it help avoid the dough sticking to it, it gives the pizzas that signature nutty, subtly-sweet flavour a-la Domino's. I would also recommend prepping pizzas in advance if you're entertaining, just so they're ready to go straight in the oven. We had a little production line going with half the group prepping the pizzas in the kitchen and the other half cooking them outside in the garden. It's worth noting that the wood pellets burn down very quickly once the oven is up to temperature. To give a rough idea, we used about a third of a three-litre bag of Exstream BBQ Oak Pellets. Verdict Between four adults, we made a nine-to-ten-inch pizza each, and it made for a fun evening in the garden. They all emerged from the pizza oven evenly baked and seemed to be crowd-pleasers, with crisp bases and well-baked toppings ranging from the classic Margherita with bubbling mozzarella and fresh basil, to Mediterranean vegetables with a savoury hit of feta and anchovies. Everyone was able to pick their own toppings, which makes it a great alternative to barbecuing for catering to different tastes and dietary requirements. With that in mind, we could easily see the Vonhaus pizza oven becoming a staple of many summer birthday parties and barbecues to come.

Jamie Oliver has concocted an effortless cheese and chive scone recipe that promises to go from mixing bowl to plate in less than 20 minutes, making it an ideal companion for your lunchtime soups, salads or an al fresco snack. The celebrated chef introduced these scones in his title 'Jamie's Air Fryer Meals', claiming you can prep them in a mere eight minutes before zipping them into the air fryer for another dozen. Cut the butter into cubes then get hands-on, rubbing it into the floor until perfectly blended, creating small flake-like bits, reports the Express. Grate about 100 grams of cheddar and finely chop the chives before dispatching them into the mix. Stir thoroughly, then sculpt a well at the centre. Introduce the milk and combine by hand to form a malleable yet firm dough. Lightly cover a clean countertop with flour and diligently mould the dough into a circular mass, aiming for a three-centimetre thickness, followed by carving out six triangular segments. Gently brush the top of the wedges with a bit of milk, grate over the leftover cheese and then dust with a small pinch of black pepper and cayenne pepper. Smear the inside of the air dryer drawer with one tablespoon of olive oil, pop in the scones and cook for 12 minutes at 180C. Your scrumptious cheesy scones will now be ready to savour and enjoy.

That same year, the Scottish chef also launched a verbal attack on Jamie, calling him a 'fat f**k' among other insults on a talk show, while he was trying to sort the UK's obesity problem by hogging all the food himself. According to the Irish Independent, he had during a show episode also decided to address the situation in a mock apology. 'Dear Jamie, I just want to say that I'm sorry,' he said. 'I have been hard on you this week, Jamie. 'What I said was hurtful, Jamie. I don't want to make you cry. The last thing I want to do is look at your cute face and think blubber, blubber, blubber.' However, the playful character of the feud took a turn when later that year, Gordon vowed never to speak to Jamie following a bitter exchange of words over the size of their respective families. Gordon accused Jamie of 'judging' him for having four children at the time (he now has six), compared with the Naked Chef star's five, and insisted he must apologise to Tana before they can make peace.
