ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on Monday received Dr. Constantinos Kombos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, in Abu Dhabi.The UAE top diplomat welcomed the Cypriot Foreign Minister, and during the meeting, they discussed strengthening bilateral relations and joint cooperation in various fields.
The two sides also reviewed the situation in the region and exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of shared interest.

EDGE signs record-breaking Dh 9 bn naval contract with Kuwait's Ministry of Defence
3 June 2025 21:04 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD) EDGE, one of the world's leading advanced technology and defence groups, has announced the signing of a major Dh 9 billion ($ 2.45 billion) defence contract with the Kuwait Ministry of Defence for the supply of FALAJ3 62-metre missile boats. This contract marks the largest naval shipbuilding export in the region and ranks among the highest-value naval export deals globally. As the prime contractor, EDGE will lead the programme which includes the design, construction, trials, and delivery of the vessels, in addition to Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and In-Service Support (ISS). EDGE will also provide the ammunition for the vessels, further demonstrating its end-to-end capability offering. Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), EDGE Group's naval arm and the UAE's leading shipbuilder, has been selected as the build subcontractor for the programme. Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO, of EDGE, said: 'This agreement with Kuwait is hugely significant both in scale and strategic importance. It deepens long-term defence ties between our nations, brings a proven class of advanced vessels into regional service, and reinforces EDGE's position as a trusted international partner. The FALAJ 3-class missile boat has also been selected by the UAE Navy, with the first vessel, ALTAF, formally commissioned into service in February 2025. This operational deployment reflects the vessel's proven capability and performance in regional waters. With the latest agreement, these advanced 62-metre vessels are tailored to meet Kuwait's operational requirements, offering high performance, advanced combat systems, and enhanced capabilities for littoral defence operations. This latest contract reinforces EDGE's position as a trusted partner for customers seeking turnkey defence solutions and integrated long-term support while driving the UAE's strategic objectives for defence exports and industrial collaboration. flydubai becomes first UAE carrier to touch down in Damascus
2 June 2025 14:03 DUBAI (ALETIHAD)flydubai, the Dubai-based carrier, inaugurated its operations to Syria with the resumption of flights to Damascus. The inaugural flight FZ 115 touched down in Damascus International Airport (DAM) on June 1 to a water cannon salute. The inaugural flight marks the start of flydubai's daily flights to inaugural flights mark the return of air connectivity between the two countries after almost after 12 years. The UAE Ambassador to the Syrian Arab Republic, His Excellency Hassan Ahmed Al Shehhi, was among the officials welcoming the inaugural flight, accompanied by a delegation that included the Deputy Chairman of the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Abdul Bari Al-Saj, and the Director of the Authority, Mr. Amjad on the start of operations, His Excellency Hassan Ahmed Al Shehhi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Syrian Arab Republic, said: 'We are pleased to announce the resumption of operations by the UAE national carrier, flydubai, to the Syrian Arab Republic. This milestone reflects the deep-rooted and fraternal relations between the United Arab Emirates and Syria and underscores the UAE's continued efforts to enhance regional and international air connectivity, strengthening economic ties and connecting people. "On this occasion, we reaffirm that the resumption of flydubai's flights to Syria marks a promising step toward the full return of UAE national carriers to operate in Syria. "Furthermore, we reiterate the UAE's firm and consistent position in support of Syria and its people.
