Andhera's Surveen Chawla On Labubu Dolls: ‘They Are Anything But Cute'
Surveen Chawla, starring in the upcoming horror series Andhera, opened up about social media reactions and the bizarre Labubu doll trend.
Bollywood actress Surveen Chawla is on a promotional spree for her upcoming web series, Andhera. Also starring Karanvir Malhotra, Priya Bapat, Raaghav Dar and Prajakta Koli, the web show is all set to give shivers down the spine of viewers on August 14. Ahead of its release, the actress sat for an interview with an entertainment media portal where she shared her candid thoughts on the trending Labubu dolls.
The actress, joined by co-star Priya Bapat and director Raaghav Dar, revealed a conversation with her daughter about the increasingly popular toy.
Surveen Chawla on Labubu dolls
During an interaction with Zoom, she stated, 'It is a craze among young children. My daughter was talking about a Labubu doll. I said, 'Listen, it is very strange.' And she was like, 'Why? It's not strange. Mumma, don't call it strange. It is so cute.' It is anything but cute. I didn't find it cute."
Labubu Dolls Craze in Bollywood
It is worth noting that Labubu dolls have caught the attention of several Bollywood celebrities, with many even using it as a keychain dangling from their handbags. Urvashi Rautela, Ananya Panday, Sharvari Wagh and even Ranveer Singh's mother have been seen sporting the quirky Labubu Dolls.
Surveen Chawla's Reaction to People's Expectations on Her Looks
Beyond dolls and trends, Surveen also spoke about societal expectations around celebrity appearances. The actress reacted to people's expectations about her looks and said, 'It's not my job to take care of the expectations of the people for the way I look. That's only my problem, and what they expect is their problem," she remarked, adding that she doesn't even read most of my comments, unless it's work related.
Surveen added, 'If I start living my life according to other people, then it's doomsday for me—mentally, physically, and in every possible way. I stay clear about that. I don't even put my life out there on social media so much. It is very rare that I do that. I take the good from what is written and ignore the bad that is also written. It is convenient for me. I will want to live up to their expectations as far as my craft is concerned. I will take positive feedback and will take criticism in my stride. But apart from that, it is nobody's business. It is only mine."
Andhera's Storyline and Cast
Set to premiere on Prime Video on August 14, Andhera is a gripping urban horror series where a sinister force looms in the shadows to haunt the living. Created by Gaurav Desai, the show features an ensemble cast including Prajakta Koli, Karanvir Malhotra, Priya Bapat, Pranay Pachauri and Vatsal Sheth, alongside Surveen Chawla.

Shwetha Menon Scripts History As AMMA's First Female President; Cuckoo Parameshwaran Secures Landmark Win
Last Updated: Shwetha Menon became the first female President of AMMA, with Cuckoo Parameshwaran elected as General Secretary, marking a historic leadership shift. In a landmark moment for the Malayalam film industry, women have, for the first time, won two key posts in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (A.M.M.A). Actress Shwetha Menon created history by becoming the first female President of the association, while Cuckoo Parameshwaran became the first woman to be elected General Secretary. Ansiba Hassan was elected unopposed as the Joint Secretary. The elections were held following the resignation of the previous committee, led by Mohanlal, in August 2024. The committee had stepped down after allegations of sexual harassment against some of its office bearers, including Siddique and Babu Raj, surfaced in the controversial Hema Committee report. For the President's post, Shwetha Menon contested against actor-turned-BJP leader Devan. Cuckoo Parameshwaran faced veteran actor Raveendran in the race for General Secretary. Speaking after her victory, Shwetha Menon said, 'Thank you to all the family members. Media, thank you so much for coming. You were all telling till now that we need women at the head of A.M.M.A and now it has happened. Hope we will get the support." In July 2025, nominations for the 17-member executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (A.M.M.A), and with nearly 110 nomination forms were taken for the electoral battle. The association currently has around 500 members. Kerala HC recently ordered interim stay on proceedings in FIR against Shwetha Menon Earlier this month, a case was registered against Shwetha Menon based on a complaint alleging that she acted in films and advertisements containing obscene and vulgar content with the intent of earning money. Shwetha approached the Kerala High Court seeking to quash the case, and the court has now quashed further proceedings. The development came at a crucial time, amid Shwetha contesting for the post of president in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (A.M.M.A). The elections were scheduled for August 15. With growing support for her candidature, there was increasing speculation that the association might get a woman president for the first time. Who is Shwetha Menon? An accomplished performer, Shwetha Menon is a two-time winner of the Best Actress award at the Kerala State Film Awards. She has worked extensively in Malayalam and Hindi cinema, and was crowned Femina Miss India Asia Pacific in 1994. Shwetha Menon and Cuckoo Parameshwaran's historic win in top A.M.M.A position marks a significant shift in the leadership of the influential industry body, signalling greater representation for women in Malayalam cinema's governing bodies.
