World's first Barbie Cafe outside the US opens in Melbourne for limited time
Melbourne's Chadstone Shopping Centre is hosting the venue, which is expected to remain open until next summer.
'Only at Chadstone for a limited time, this two-storey pink paradise brings Barbie's world to life – with retro glam, all-day dining, dreamy desserts, signature cocktails at the Ken Kabana, exclusive merch, insta-worthy photo ops and a groovy skate rink,' a spokesman from Malibu Barbie Cafe said.
Mattel Asia-Pacific managing director Paul Faulkner said the time had come for Barbie to re-enter the national consciousness.
'Fans responded so well to the Barbie Movie back in 2023 that we thought it was time to give them another dose of Barbie,' he told 7News.
'We're really looking forward to bringing Barbie in a new way to consumers, not just through the toy but through immersive experiences,' he said.
'Barbie is 65 years old, and for a brand to resonate like that for so long with so many different demographics, it's really incredible.'
Mushroom Group Marketing Manager Brii Jamieson called the cafe a 'labour of love'.
'As you can see, it's come to life in the most amazing way.'
Prior to establishing itself in Melbourne, the Malibu Barbie cafe has popped up in cities across the United States including New York, San Diego, Miami, Chicago, Houston and Austin.

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon was quick to defend Grand Final act Snoop Dogg amid the Izak Rankine saga
AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon was quick to defend Grand Final act Snoop Dogg after Adelaide used his checkered past in its defence of Izak Rankine. Rankine was suspended for four matches on Thursday afternoon for using a homophobic slur towards his Collingwood opponent on Saturday night. Adelaide, in its bid to reduce Rankine's sentence, referenced the AFL's choice of Snoop Dogg who has a questionable history of crude lyrics and behaviour. Unprompted, Dillon went into detail defending his decision to chase Snoop Dogg. 'We cannot vouch that every song ever written or performed by every artist that has or will perform on a stage, international or Australian,' he said. 'What I can say is our entertainment on Grand Final day will be family friendly and consistent with those expecting the broadcast. 'Snoop has spoken publicly about his past, he has changed and today Snoop Dogg is a grandfather, philanthropist, helps rehabilitate youth and as an entertainer has performed at both the Super Bowl and Olympic closing ceremony to audiences of more than 100 million people. 'In those environments his performance was appropriate and well received, is performance this year at our Grand Final befitting for the best sporting event in our country.' Rankine will only be able to play again this season provided Adelaide lose the qualifying final but win both the semi and preliminary final.

Kyle Sandilands missing from KIIS FM show days after to he ‘had a stroke' on-air
Kyle Sandilands was nowhere to be seen on Thursday's episode of his KIIS FM breakfast show, days after he claimed he'd suffered a 'stroke' while live on-air. The controversial radio host, who was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and other health issues earlier this year, sounded confused during Tuesday's episode, continually messing up his words. After some fumbling he said: 'I think I've had a stroke. I feel that I've said the wrong words multiple times this morning, and I'm not super tired.' His co-host, Jackie 'O' Henderson then quickly interjected: 'No, you haven't.' A producer on the show then appeared to agree with Sandilands, telling listeners that the host had confused the word 'mattock' with 'Matlock'. Sandilands has struggled with maintaining a healthy lifestyle in recent years, and earlier this year, was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. While chatting with his co-star last month, Sandilands admitted that he's finding physical activities harder recently after gaining weight. He revealed that he'd put on 12kg since last year, now hitting 138kg on the scales. 'I'm 138, I thought I was massive. I've been a bit … I don't know whether 'depressed' is the word? Ever since this aneurysm thing came up a year ago,' he said. 'I brushed it off inside. My wife is on me about it, asking if I would like to come for a walk with her and (their son) Otto. I would like to, but just too fat and lazy to go.' Sandilands went on to confess that despite putting on weight he was not bothered to cut out junk food and change his diet. 'I also use an opportunity to eat a packet of chicken and biscuits! I know I'm doing myself in,' he said, adding that he went under a series of tests this week to gauge how good his health is. 'I did all these scans yesterday, haven't got the results yet. If I'm good, then I will put together a club, 'Kyle's Big Fatso Club', where I want others to join me in my slow march to healthiness. Who is with me?' he said.
