‘The Three Musketeers' and ‘The Four Musketeers': Richard Lester's Spirited Swashbucklers
Few works have sparked the cinematic imagination as routinely as Alexandre Dumas's 1844 novel 'The Three Musketeers.' A hasty count indicates some 40 movie versions (the first and latest from France, in 1903 and 2023) and many more made just for television. But by common consent, the best yet is Richard Lester's 'The Three Musketeers' (1973) and 'The Four Musketeers' (1974), originally conceived as a single film with intermission but ultimately released as two separate pictures. Both have now been fetchingly restored in 4K and this week debut on home video in that form as part of the Criterion Collection. (Enthusiasts may select a two-disc Blu-ray set or a four-disc 4K UHD/Blu-ray combo pack.)
The Philadelphia-born Mr. Lester worked primarily in the U.K. and remains best known today for 'A Hard Day's Night' and 'Help,' his mid-1960s filmed collaborations with the Beatles. At an early stage, there was apparently some thought of casting the Beatles as Dumas's sword-fighting trio plus their protégé D'Artagnan—an idea quickly quashed.

We are just trying to love and exist, and then when you have people from the outside that's attacking you for that, I think that's what makes us stronger.' She added, 'Any adversity makes you stronger, and that's who we are.' Nash-Betts praised the LGBTQ+ community for its support. She said, 'When I was five years old, I said, 'I want to be Black, fabulous and on TV…' and here we are. I want to thank the Critics Choice Association for seeing me, not just for what I play on screen, but for who I am when the cameras stop rolling. You keep going, not for the applause – but for the impact.' She concluded her speech by urging the audience to 'keep breaking ground together until there's not one closet left to hide in.' Yang, who was honored with the Comedy Award, praised his fellow honorees and said, 'While I'm very honored to be receiving this, I do think a Comedy Award is the closest thing that queer people have to a participation trophy. We're all funny. I mean, I've never met a non-funny queer person. It's the way that we relate to each other in a world that's inhospitable at times.' Jack Draper Says Tennis Makes It Hard to Have a Girlfriend
Tennis phenom Jack Draper has turned heads with his play at the French Open. The British No. 1 tennis player thrilled fans with a close battle against Gael Monfils of France on May 29, 2025. The victory propelled Draper into the third round and had some fans wondering about his relationship history and whether he has a wife or girlfriend. Advertisement No, Draper is not married. However, he has opened up about dating in interviews. He hasn't named a girlfriend, though. "He's single, and though he likes going on doesn't really party, preferring to spend time with friends," Vogue wrote of Draper in March 2025. "He is, conveniently, single; which means that Draper might be the most eligible bachelor in SW15," Tatler reported in May 2025. "I'm always on the road. Always playing, always training. It's tough to sustain any form of relationship," he told Tatler, which called him "an eligible bachelor perhaps, but Draper is more of a mummy's boy at heart. She's the first person he calls when he wins; 'a huge mentor' and a former junior tennis champion herself." NYT ‘Connections' Hints And Answers For Sunday, June 8th

You can find them here: I returned from my adventures in Scotland and Ireland a week ago and while I felt pretty good the next day after my 23-hour travel day, I've definitely been a bit jet-lagged all week long. Or else I'm just getting old. But with age comes wisdom, or whatever you want to call it. If nothing else, I've definitely improved my puzzle-solving skills over the years! That comes with the territory, I suppose. When you write puzzle-solving guides, you have to get good at this stuff. In any case, my dearest Connectioneers, we have some word associations to make and a Connections to solve. Let's do it! Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here. The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four pairs of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they get more complicated from there. There are difficulty tiers coded by color, which will usually go from yellow, blue/green to purple as difficulty increases, so know that going in and when you start linking them together. Today's Connections Alright, the full spoilers follow here as we get into what the groups are today: The full-on answers are below for each group, finally inserting the four words in each category. Spoilers follow if you do not want to get this far. The Connections answers are: Today's Connections answers It's funny, I was actually pretty sure of the Green group first today, but I held off to see if I was right about other words first. It was the words LAST and STAND that made me try grouping these with HOLD and STAY, all words that indicate persistence or making a LAST STAND. Then I thought about the word DOE which was the only other animal word that wasn't part of something I assumed was describing markets (as in a BULL or BEAR market). What made this one animal stand out? I saw BRED and thought maybe BRED and DOE were actually BREAD and DOUGH, and immediately thought this group might be about baking. But when I noticed CACHE and LUTE I realized this was actually about CASH and LOOT – aka, words that sounded like money words. So I plugged these in and got Purple on my second try. From here I went ahead with my earliest grouping and that just left Blue: BORN, EDUCATION, SPOUSE, OCCUPATION – all words about aspects of a person's life. This was the least obvious group for me today, and I didn't even consider it was a Wikipedia sidebar. All told, while not the hardest Connections I've played, a decent challenge nonetheless.
