New House GOP resolution eviscerates Comey over '86 47' Instagram post
Rep. August Pfluger, R-Texas, chairman of the 189-member-strong Republican Study Committee (RSC), is introducing a resolution alongside Rep. Laurel Lee, R-Fla., to condemn Comey for "incitement of violence against President Donald J. Trump."
Pfluger and Lee's three-page resolution calls the post "disturbing" and "urges the relevant authorities to take every relevant action to ensure that Mr. Comey is never again permitted to serve as an employee of the federal government."
It also asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) to not only investigate the matter, but also make the findings of its investigation known to both the relevant House committee and the American public.
Comey posted a photo of seashells forming the numbers "86 47" on the beach on Thursday.
It ignited a social media firestorm, with Trump allies and other Republicans immediately accusing the former FBI director of calling for Trump to be killed.
Comey later deleted the post and followed it with a statement that he opposed all violence.
"I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw today on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message. I didn't realize some folks associate those numbers with violence," Comey said. "It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down."
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told the Associated Press that Comey is now under investigation by the Trump administration.
Pfluger and Lee's resolution noted that Comey had made the post while Trump was on a diplomatic visit to the Middle East, which they argue ran the risk of "jeopardizing the President's security and invigorating our nation's enemies abroad."
They also pointed out that there had been two known attempts on Trump's life last year during the 2024 election – including the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally, where the president was shot in the ear.
Lee, notably, was on the House task force investigating the Butler rally shooting.
"Having failed in his attempts to take down President Trump as one of the main architects of the Russia collusion hoax, Comey has now resorted to the unthinkable: calling for violence against our Commander-in-Chief," the RSC chairman told Fox News Digital.
"That someone who once held one of our nation's most sacred positions of law enforcement would incite such dangerous rhetoric is not just alarming—it's disqualifying and un-American. This resolution demands the accountability and transparency the American people deserve, ensuring Comey never again holds a position of public trust."
Fox News Digital made multiple attempts to reach Comey and his representatives but did not hear back by press time.

The Fulton County District Attorney's Office offered Dericole Daniel a 25-year sentence, in which he will spend a fraction of that in jail. When he came back outside, he accidentally walked up to a car similar to his fiancée's at a nearby gas pump and opened the door. That's when the driver of that car, Daniel, shot him four times. 'I'm quite sure there's plenty of people that done walked to the wrong car, but they didn't get shot and killed,' said Dunnaville. Daniel's attorney said a Grand Jury initially charged him with Felony Murder, a charge that carries a life sentence. So, when prosecutors offered him a deal to plead guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter, he took it. As part of the 25-year sentence, he will spend five years in jail and 20 years on probation. The judge said he can cut the probation short for good behavior. 'Then, the judge ask him when do he want to turn himself in. I never heard that a day in my life,' Dunnaville said. The plea deal allows Daniel to self-report to Fulton County Jail by Sept. 2. Former prosecutors said that is an unusual condition in deadly criminal cases like these. The embarrassing trend of people throwing sex toys on WNBA courts continued in Chicago on Thursday night right before the end of the Sky's game against the Atlanta Dream. Ahead of the final buzzer in Atlanta's win over Chicago, a purple sex toy hit the court, thankfully in a place well away from any WNBA Office Sports reporter Colin Salao observed two sex toys were thrown from the crowd, with one landing near the Dream bench and the other hitting the actual game court. Multiple similar incidents have taken place at WNBA games within the last week, with a cryptocurrency group alleging it sparked the trend earlier in the day. We're not sure how many more incidents will happen, but it looks like the churlish morons who think this is still funny will keep disrupting WNBA games with sex toys. China's SMIC says Trump tariffs did not cause expected 'hard landing'
By Che Pan and Joe Cash BEIJING (Reuters) -China's top foundry SMIC's co-CEO said on Friday that U.S. tariff policy had not resulted in the "hard landing" that the company was initially worried about and that strong domestic demand will keep its production capacity tight until October. Zhao Haijun, co-CEO of Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC), told a post-earnings call that the company is not consulting with customers regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's 100% tariff plan on chip imports but expects the impact could be smaller due to contingency plans that had been made after tariffs were announced in April. China raised additional duties on U.S. goods to 125% in April after Trump effectively raised tariffs on Chinese goods to 145%. Trump said on Wednesday the United States will impose a tariff of about 100% on imports of semiconductors, although that will not apply to companies that are manufacturing in the U.S. or have committed to do so. SMIC was blacklisted by the U.S. commerce department in 2020. China is the dominant market for SMIC, accounting for 84% of its revenue in the second quarter, unchanged from the first quarter, while the U.S. contributed 12.9%, slightly up from 12.6%. SMIC's second-quarter revenue rose 16.2% year-on-year to $2.2 billion. Its profit attributable to owners of SMIC declined 19.5% to $132.5 million, missing analysts' estimates of $183.35 million, according to LSEG data. SMIC's Hong Kong-traded shares were down more than 5% on Friday. Zhao said the previous rounds of tariffs resulted in less than 10% of cost increases at its overseas customers. "After these past few months, everyone has either stocked up enough inventory for this year and next year, or found other suppliers," Zhao said, "So I think the impact will become even smaller." Zhao said SMIC's production capacity remains insufficient and would remain tight until October due to robust demand from domestic substitution.
