The Explosive Robot: The Occupation's Silent Weapon for Taking Lives in Gaza - Jordan News

Jordan News22-05-2025

In the heart of the ongoing hell that the Gaza Strip has endured for 19 months, the Israeli occupation army no longer relies solely on planes and rockets. It has begun to use silent and terrifying killing tools that invade neighborhoods and plant death in the fabric of daily life. اضافة اعلان With the continued aggression and escalation of the occupation's military operations, a new type of deadly weapon has appeared on Gaza's streets—one whose only visible part is a silent frame before it transforms into a devastating fireball. This weapon is known among residents as the "explosive robot," and here is one example: an old armored vehicle that Israel has reused after it was retired from service in 2014, but now in a deadlier, more terrifying form. It is left in the middle of a civilian residential neighborhood and detonated remotely, causing massive destruction and indescribable panic. These modified armored vehicles have become known among Gaza's population as 'robots,' a name that embodies the mystery and danger they carry. Sometimes they are parked in civilian areas for hours or even days before being suddenly detonated remotely. The use of this device reflects a new level of psychological warfare and military engineering, where technology is employed to impose control, spread terror, and achieve destructive objectives without direct human involvement, and through unconventional means. Since the occupation announced the expansion of its operations under what is called 'Operation Gideon Vehicles' a few days ago, Gaza residents—especially in the northern Gaza Strip—have complained about the increasing daily use of these explosive robots. Civilian and Activist Testimonies In this context, Twitter users and activists confirmed that the Israeli army loads these 'explosive robots' with tons of explosives, then leaves them in specific locations for hours or even days before remotely detonating them suddenly. They pointed out that the mere presence of an 'explosive robot' in a residential neighborhood causes a state of extreme tension and anxiety among the population, as the timing of the explosion cannot be predicted. When it happens, the blast is completely different from airstrikes; it is characterized by a massive shockwave, a deafening roar, and a strong earthquake-like tremor. Massive Destruction and Wiped-Out Neighborhoods According to testimonies circulating among activists, these explosions cause wide-scale destruction aimed at inflicting the greatest possible human losses among civilians, alongside destroying infrastructure. They noted that detonating a single 'robot' can flatten five houses at once or even destroy an entire neighborhood. Some bloggers described this weapon as a "mini nuclear bomb" due to the intensity of the explosion it produces. One said, 'It's an old tank filled with tens of tons of explosives, capable of destroying hundreds of homes kilometers away.' Another activist wrote, 'I spent one night two days ago in the Tal Al-Zaatar area with the robots… indescribable!!!' While another said, 'Every day they invent a new weapon to exterminate the people of Gaza.' A field activist reported witnessing the blast effects during a violent escalation round in northern Gaza in October 2024 and beyond, saying, 'The robot blasts an area of 200 square meters in two circles; the first is close and almost completely destroys, and the second empties the building of its contents.' In the same context, bloggers explained that the 'booby-trapped robot' is an armored vehicle resembling a smaller tank, carrying nearly 10 tons of explosives and shrapnel, remotely operated via a special encrypted signal.
Some estimated its destructive power to be 10 times that of rockets launched by F-16 fighter jets, making it one of the most dangerous weapons used in the war on Gaza to date.

Hamas: Matan Zangauker will not return alive

Hamas' armed wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, released a photograph on Saturday of Israeli captive Matan Zangauker with a stark caption: 'He Will Not Return Alive,' in what appears to be a direct message to the "Israeli" military. The release of the image came hours after Abu Obaida, the spokesperson for the brigades, issued a statement warning the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) against attempting a military rescue of Zangauker, who has been held captive in Gaza since 2023. 'Occupation forces are besieging a location where the captive, Matan Zangauker, is being held, and we firmly assert that the enemy will not be able to retrieve him alive,' Abu Obaida said in the statement. He added that Zangauker's life had been preserved for a year and eight months, but cautioned that any rescue effort would place him in imminent danger. 'The occupation bears full responsibility for his fate,' the statement warned.

Body of Thai captive recovered from Gaza, says 'Israeli' army

Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) announced on Saturday that they have recovered the body of Nattapong Pinta, a Thai national who had been held captive in Gaza. According to the IOF, the operation took place in the Rafah area of the Gaza Strip. Nattapong Pinta was captured from Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7, 2023, and died while in captivity. After the body was recovered, it underwent identification by the National Institute of Forensic Medicine in coordination with the 'Israel' Police. In their statement, the 'Israeli' army also reported that Hamas continues to hold the body of another foreign national. Previously, on Thursday, the IOF announced the recovery of remains of other captives killed during the October 7 events, in a special military operation conducted in the Khan Younis area of southern Gaza, with the involvement of the 'Israel' Security Agency (Shin Bet).

France opens genocide complicity investigations over Gaza aid blockade

French anti-terror authorities have opened two investigations into allegations of genocide-related crimes, following accusations that French-"Israeli" nationals participated in efforts to obstruct humanitarian aid destined for Gaza earlier this year. According to France's national anti-terror prosecutor's office (PNAT), the probes are centered on possible "complicity in genocide," "incitement to genocide," and "complicity in crimes against humanity" between January and May 2024. These mark the first known French criminal inquiries into potential violations of international law linked to the war in Gaza. The investigations were triggered by two separate legal complaints. One was filed in November by the Jewish French Union for Peace and a French-Palestinian victim, targeting individuals allegedly tied to hardline pro-"Israel" groups "Israel is forever" and "Tzav-9." The complaint claims they physically blocked trucks carrying humanitarian aid at "Israeli" border checkpoints. Lawyers representing the plaintiffs expressed relief at the decision to move forward with a probe. 'We are pleased that the events from January 2024 are now being scrutinized — a time when no one wanted to hear anything about genocide,' said attorneys Damia Taharraoui and Marion Lafouge. Sources close to the case said the incidents in question occurred at the Nitzana and Karam Abu Salem crossings, where demonstrators, including relatives of "Israeli" captives, reportedly forced aid trucks to turn back. A second complaint, filed by the group Lawyers for Justice in the Middle East (CAPJO), presented videos, photos, and public statements as evidence against the same individuals. In a separate case made public the same day, the grandmother of two French children killed in an "Israeli" airstrike in Gaza submitted a legal complaint to the Paris court, accusing "Israel" of genocide and murder. The strike reportedly took the lives of 6-year-old Janna and 9-year-old Abderrahim Abudaher on Oct. 24, 2023. 'We believe these children are dead as part of a deliberate organised policy targeting the whole of Gaza's population with a possible genocidal intent,' said the family's lawyer, Arie Alimi. The children's younger brother, Omar, was severely injured and remains in Gaza under the care of their mother. Although filed against unnamed parties, the grandmother's complaint directly accuses "Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his government, and the military. Notably, the children's mother, a French citizen, was convicted in absentia in 2019 for allegedly funding terrorism through donations to Hamas and Islamic Jihad members. While no court has officially labeled the conflict as genocide, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has repeatedly instructed the Israeli Occupation to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza and to avoid actions that could amount to genocide. Despite this, UN agencies report that the entire population of Gaza remains at risk of famine. Tensions have further escalated over reports that Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) fired on Palestinians attempting to collect food from a US-backed aid distribution point, prompting backlash and leading several international NGOs and the UN to distance themselves from the operation. Concerns have been raised that the aid program is shaped to align with IOF goals. Meanwhile, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity. A similar case against Hamas commander Mohammed Deif was dropped in February after it was confirmed he had been killed.
