Future of Sustainability Initiative: Saudi Arabia Promotes Fashion Recycling

Leaders03-03-2025

The Saudi Fashion Commission has launched the Future of Sustainability Initiative, a key project that aims to raise consumer's awareness about fashion recycling, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The Future of Sustainability Initiative is a sustainable program that aims to promote fashion recycling in retail spaces across Saudi Arabia. The initiative involves deploying recycling bins in shopping malls to encourage the public and private sectors to take part in fashion recycling practices.
The initiative also underscores the Fashion Commission's commitment to the sustainability pillar. It aims to promote sustainable practices in the fashion industry and to raise consumer's awareness.
Furthermore, the Future of Sustainability Initiative aims to develop a circular textile recycling system and increase public awareness of the importance of fashion recycling.
In February 2025, the Saudi Fashion Commission launched the Sustainable Ihram Initiative, a pioneering program that aims to transform previously used Ihram garments into new, sustainable Ihrams through a circular textile recycling system.
These initiatives align with the environmental goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and mark a major stride towards a more sustainable fashion ecosystem in the Kingdom.

Hajj Ministry launches Digital Hajj Certificates via 'Nusuk' App

Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah launched a new feature on the Nusuk application, allowing both pilgrims and Hajj season workers to access electronic certificates for the 1446 AH Hajj season. The initiative is part of the ministry's ongoing commitment to document the pilgrims' spiritual journey, recognize those who contributed to the season's success, and ultimately serve the pilgrims. Pilgrims can now electronically issue their Hajj completion certificates through the app immediately after concluding their rituals. The process involves simple steps: logging into the app, selecting a suitable certificate design, and then issuing and saving it digitally. The service represents a modern documentation method that provides pilgrims with a meaningful symbolic memento of their spiritual experience, embodying the pride of fulfilling the fifth pillar of Islam. The initiative is part of a broader package of digital services offered by the Nusuk app to users worldwide. It aims to elevate the pilgrim experience and enhance technological integration throughout the Hajj journey, aligning with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

Spiritual journey of Hajj pilgrims ends with gifts and souvenirs

MAKKAH: Throughout their profound journey of faith, especially as Hajj concludes, pilgrims commonly engage in the cherished custom of purchasing gifts. They flock to the malls and markets of Makkah, particularly those around the Grand Mosque. This tradition expresses their spiritual fulfillment and prepares them for their return home, blessed by Allah for having performed the sacred rites, according to a Saudi Press Agency report. Gift buying represents joy at Hajj's successful conclusion and strengthens social bonds between relatives, SPA added. Many gifts symbolize the holy sites and carry deep religious significance. Popular choices include Zamzam water, prayer beads, and copies of the Holy Qur'an. Pilgrims also frequently buy perfumes like incense and musk, along with various types of dates — ajwa dates being especially sought after. The markets of Makkah and Madinah see a significant boom after Hajj, bustling with pilgrims of diverse nationalities. These vibrant markets include modern malls in the Haram area, the traditional Aziziyah Market, the Hijaz Market, and bazaars near the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah. Merchants actively meet this demand, offering a wide range of products, special offers for pilgrims, and often discounts on bulk purchases.

Osaka Expo pavilion celebrates 70 years of Japan-Saudi relations

OSAKA: Saudi Arabia's pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka is celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Kingdom — the two countries first established their partnership on June 7, 1955. 'The relations go beyond a mere economic partnership to reflect the depth and diversity of our ties,' said Ghazi Faisal Binzagr, Saudi ambassador to Japan and the pavilion's commissioner-general. 'Today, we build on the strength of the past and harness the momentum of the present to jointly shape a new vision for the future. With Expo 2025 taking place in Osaka and Saudi Arabia hosting Expo 2030 in Riyadh, our two countries stand at the forefront of global exchange, showcasing the latest innovations and sustainable technologies, and contributing to shaping an inclusive future for all.' The Saudi Pavilion has hosted various business events and highlighted trade opportunities offered by Saudi Vision 2030, strengthening economic ties between the two countries. Additionally, it highlights the Kingdom's role in bringing Japanese culture to the Middle East through local manga studios, whose works will be featured in August. The pavilion aims to draw more Japanese tourists to Saudi Arabia, targeting 30,000 visitors annually before Expo 2030 Riyadh. Saudi Arabia's participation in Expo 2025 Osaka is part of the Saudi-Japan Vision 2030 strategy, which includes more than 80 projects across industries including culture, food, media and entertainment, energy, and education. The pavilion, which offers more than 700 diverse and engaging events such as daily shows and live performances, has attracted more than half a million visitors since it opened in April.
