Nio Cuts Prices, Expands Global Reach In Strategic Push Against Tesla

Nio Inc. (NYSE:NIO) shares ticked higher in premarket trading Tuesday as the Chinese electric vehicle maker announced price cuts across its long-range lineup following Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) 's launch of a new six-seat Model Y L SUV. The automaker confirmed it has lowered the price of its optional 100-kWh long-range battery pack by 20,000 Chinese yuan ($2,780), reducing the cost of every long-range vehicle it currently sells, reports CnEV Post. The adjustment, effective August 19, drops the price of the pack from 128,000 Chinese yuan to 108,000 Chinese Tuesday, the company's top peer XPeng Inc. (NYSE:XPEV) reported a second-quarter adjusted EPADS loss of 6 cents, up from an 18 cents loss in the year-ago period. The company's second-quarter vehicle deliveries surged 241.6% year over year. With the new pricing, the Nio ET9 executive sedan, which comes with the 100-kWh pack by default, now starts at 768,000 Chinese yuan, a 2.54% reduction, the report adds. The ET5 sedan and ET5 Touring, both entry-level long-range offerings, saw the steepest cuts at 5.62%. Customers who purchased but not yet received their 100-kWh vehicles will automatically benefit from the new prices. Those who already took delivery between January 1 and August 18 this year will receive 20,000 Chinese yuan discount vouchers. Beyond price cuts, the EV maker is accelerating its global push. Between 2025 and 2026, Nio plans to enter Singapore, Uzbekistan and Costa Rica, with support from local distribution partners. In Singapore, the company will collaborate with Wearnes Automotive, a high-end car retailer. In Costa Rica, Nio will work with Horizontes Cielo Azul Movilidad, marking its first step into the Americas. Abu Sahiy Motors will handle the rollout in Uzbekistan, its first Central Asian market. Nio also revealed it will soon launch its first right-hand drive vehicle, preparing for entry into both American and Central Asian regions. Its multi-brand approach, spanning Nio, Onvo and Firefly, is expected to target broader customer segments while diversifying its EV offerings. Hedge fund activity has recently picked up around Nio, signaling optimism about its prospects as global demand for EVs continues to climb. Analysts note that the latest moves, both in pricing and international expansion, could strengthen its competitive stance against Tesla and other rivals such as XPeng Inc. (NYSE:XPEV). Nvidia said to be developing new, more powerful AI chip for sale in China

The world's most valuable chipmaker is far from giving up its desire to retain China as a key growth market. Nvidia is apparently putting together a new AI chip meant for sale in China that's half as powerful as its flagship B300 Blackwell GPU, Reuters reported, citing anonymous sources. This new chip, codenamed B30A, would be more powerful than the H20 GPUs the company is currently allowed to sell to China, the report said, though its design will be single-die in nature, unlike the dual-die design used in the more powerful B300 GPUs. The B30A would still have similar features to the H20, like fast data transmission, support for NVLink, and high-bandwidth memory. The development of the B30A seems to be separate from another chip that the company is said to be developing for sale in the country, Reuters reported. 'We evaluate a variety of products for our roadmap, so that we can be prepared to compete to the extent that governments allow. Everything we offer is with the full approval of the applicable authorities and designed solely for beneficial commercial use,' Nvidia said in an emailed statement. The news comes as the Trump administration in recent weeks has relaxed its stance on letting chipmakers export high-performance AI chips to China, though Reuters cited its sources as saying that approvals for this new chip aren't certain at all. As geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington are increasingly affected by the race to develop AI, critics argue that the U.S. must maintain its lead by controlling the supply of necessary technology to China. But Nvidia and its peers — finding themselves selling the equivalent of shovels during a gold rush — maintain that ceding the valuable market of China to rivals like Huawei would be tantamount to giving up entirely.

Reliance enters joint venture with Naturedge Beverages

Reliance Consumer Products, the consumer brands division of India's Reliance Industries has acquired a majority stake in a joint venture with functional drinks maker Naturedge Beverages. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. In a statement, Reliance's consumer arm said the joint venture will look to offer consumers a selection of "herbal-natural beverages", bolstering its 'presence as a total beverage company'. The group added that the healthy functional beverage sector offers a 'large and rapidly expanding opportunity' fuelled by "strong" consumer movement towards "healthier, natural alternatives". In the same statement, Ketan Mody, executive director of Reliance Consumer Products, said the venture 'strengthens our beverage portfolio with the addition of health-focused functional drinks, inspired by Ayurveda." Naturedge Beverages, founded in 2018 by Siddhesh Sharma of the Baidyanath Group, specialises in better-for-you drinks inspired by the holisitic medicine system Ayuverda. Mody added: 'Within a very short span of time, Shunya has gained wide popularity among health-conscious consumers' and 'also fits perfectly' with the company's vision. Naturedge's flagship product, Shunya, is a zero-sugar, zero-calorie beverage infused with Indian herbs such as Ashwagandha and Brahmi. The business also makes ready-to-drink functional shots under the Armr brand. Commenting on the deal, co-founder Sharma said: 'The partnership with RCPL is a testament of Shunya's rapidly growing acceptability among consumers. With our visions aligned on turning Shunya into a pan-India brand that caters to consumers love for herbal-natural functional beverages that are refreshing and fun-filled at the same time, this is a win-win for us." The joint venture will enable the Shunya brand to be available to consumers across the country using Reliance's "wide network of distribution and supply chain", Sharma added. In July, Reliance Industries reportedly announced plans to set up a new subsidiary for its consumer-facing brands. According to a report from India's Economic Times at the time, Reliance Industries aimed to draw a new pool of investors to its FMCG portfolio by presenting the business as a standalone entity, instead of keeping it embedded within its broader retail operations. At the time Reuters said India's National Company Law Tribunal had approved the restructuring exercise, according to a document cited by the news agency and dated 25 June. 'This is a large business by itself requiring specialised and focused attention, expertise and different skill sets as compared to retail business,' Reliance Industries said in its request for approval to the Tribunal, the document quoted by Reuters said. It added: 'This business also entails large capital investments on an on-going basis and can attract a different set of investors.' The creation of the new subsidiary business unit will involve the transfer of the company's consumer brands from its existing retail arm, according to Reuters, which baked the observation made by the Economic Times. "Reliance enters joint venture with Naturedge Beverages" was originally created and published by Just Drinks, a GlobalData owned brand.
