"Had a very good and detailed conversation with my friend President Putin. I thanked him for sharing the latest developments on Ukraine. We also reviewed the progress in our bilateral agenda, and reaffirmed our commitment to further deepen the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. I look forward to hosting President Putin in India later this year." PM Modi said in a statement on X.
The development comes amid ongoing tensions following the imposition of tariffs on India for buying Russian oil.
During their telephone call today, President Putin briefed PM on the latest developments concerning Ukraine, as per a statement by the External Affairs Ministry.
The two leaders also reviewed progress in the bilateral agenda, and reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia.
Prime Minister invited President Putin to India later this year for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
Putin had on Thursday received India's National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval at the Kremlin.
Prime Minister Modi had visited Russia last year and he and President Vladimir Putin highly appreciated the special nature of this time-tested relationship, which is based on trust, mutual understanding and strategic convergence.

New Delhi: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has approved the submission of a bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games during its Special General Meeting (SGM) held on Wednesday. An IOA source confirmed, "Ahmedabad is likely going to be the city to host the Commonwealth Games 2030." Proposals are expected to be submitted by 31 August, and Commonwealth Sport is expected to decide on the host city in November. The meeting discussed three key matters, the consideration and passing of the audited statement of accounts for the financial year 2023-24, the appointment of a statutory auditor for 2024-25, and the proposal to seek approval for submitting a bid to host the 2030 Games in India, along with any related actions required for the process. In June, a senior state delegation led by Harsh Sanghavi, Minister of Sports, Government of Gujarat, met officials from Commonwealth Sport as part of efforts to understand the bid framework for the 2030 Games. The delegation included representatives from the Commonwealth Games Association India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The meeting aimed to gather insights on planning expectations, governance standards and milestones for the bid. It reflected India's intent to align with global best practices while working closely with stakeholders during the process. Both sides discussed key elements usually included in a Games bid, such as the vision and legacy plans, governance and institutional support, sustainability, transport strategy, sports programme, accessibility, infrastructure planning, athlete services and Games-time operations.

Zelensky says "we will not leave Donbass" and rules out land swap with Russia
Kyiv: Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has ruled out any voluntary withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from territories still under Kyiv's control in Donbass, dismissing suggestions they could be part of a potential land swap with Russia, RT reported. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Zelensky said, "We will not leave Donbass. We cannot do this. Everyone forgets the main issue, our territories are illegally occupied," adding that ceding land in Donbass to Russia would only allow it to start a new war in a couple of years and push deeper into Ukraine, RT reported. "Any issue of territories cannot be separated from security guarantees. Otherwise, now they want to gift them about 9,000 square kilometers; this is about 30% of the Donetsk region, and this is a springboard for their new aggression," he claimed, according to RT. The remarks follow repeated comments by US President Donald Trump that a potential peace deal between Moscow and Kyiv would likely involve a land swap and territorial concessions from both sides. "They've [Russia] occupied some very prime territory. We're going to try and get some of that territory back for Ukraine," Trump said on Monday, as cited by RT. The Lugansk (LPR) and Donetsk (DPR) People's Republics, along with the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, became part of Russia after referendums in 2022. While the LPR was fully taken by Russian forces earlier this year, Moscow's control over the other regions remains partial. Kyiv continues to claim all four territories, as well as Crimea, which joined Russia in 2014 following a referendum held shortly after the Western-backed Maidan coup in Kyiv, RT reported. Zelensky has repeatedly rejected any territorial concessions to Russia, while Moscow insists any peace deal must involve Ukraine's withdrawal from the country's newly incorporated regions, according to RT. The remarks highlight the continuing deadlock between Ukraine and Russia over territorial control.

Singapore ministerial delegation arrives in Delhi for India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable
New Delhi: Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, Finance Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and a Ministerial delegation from Singapore arrived in New Delhi for the 3rd India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) on Wednesday. Sharing pictures of the Singapore leaders' arrival, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote on X, "A warm welcome to DPM Mr. Gan Kim Yong, FM @VivianBala and the Ministerial delegation from Singapore as they arrive in New Delhi for the 3rd India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR)." "ISMR, a unique mechanism, continues to strengthen the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," he added. On Wednesday, Balakrishnan will take part in the 3rd India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) at Hyderabad House, starting at 9:50 am, followed by an official photo session. Later that day, he will call on the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where another official photo opportunity is planned.
