A Guru is considered an essential guide for one's success in life. Thousands of people visit their respected Gurus on this day, presenting gifts to them as per their abilities.
The belief is that respecting Gurus on Guru Purnima brings positive changes in one's life. There is also a tradition of receiving the Guru Mantra on this day in Varanasi. The Guru holds the highest importance in the religious city of Varanasi.
On the day of Ashadha Purnima, bathing and giving donations are considered very auspicious.
Devotees gathered on the eve of Guru Purnima to offer prayers at Chhatarpur's Shri Aadya Katyayani Shaktipith Mandir today.
The sacred Bhasma Aarti was also performed at the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain in the early morning on Thursday, on the occasion of Guru Purnima. Devotees gathered in large numbers to witness the early morning ritual, which is considered very divine. The temple resonated with chants and spiritual fervour, marking the worship of Lord Shiva and spiritual gurus.
At Ganga River at Har Ki Pauri, a large number of devotees gathered to take a holy dip on the occasion.
Today also marks the end of the month of Ashadh and the beginning of the month of Sawan. From today, the Kanvar Yatra will also begin.
After taking a holy dip, devotees visit the temple. Those who have taken initiation from their Guru and received the Guru Mantra will go to their Guru and worship them today.
'Guru Govind dou khade kaake lagu paay balihari Guru aapne Govind diyo bataye,' a line composed by Kabir Das centuries ago, highlights the glory of the Guru, which remains relevant today.
It translates to: 'If both Guru (teacher) and Govind (God) were to appear before me, whose feet should I touch first? I would bow to the Guru first, for it is the Guru who has shown me the way to God.'
Guru Purnima is also known as Ashadhi Purnima and Vyas Purnima because Maharishi Ved Vyas was born on this day.
The Guru holds special importance in worldly life, which is why, in Indian culture, a guru is considered more important than God. This festival is celebrated not only by Hindus but also by Jains, Buddhists, and Sikhs. In Buddhism, Lord Buddha gave his first Dharma Chakra Pravartan on this day. (ANI)

August 2025 starts with this Angel Number; Here's what numerology says it means
The first day of a month has a major impact on the energy of that month. The tone of August 1, 2025, is spiritually deep and emotionally sensitive, which makes it clear how the month will go. We can see a deep message of healing, closure, and deeper love when we look at the date, the day of the week, and the heavenly message in the numbers. Let's look at the energies of Friday, Number 6, Angel Number 18, and Destiny Number 9 to find out what the universe wants us to achieve in August 2025. Friday: A Venusian Start to a Heart-Centered Month August opens on a Friday, which is Venus's day. Venus is the planet of love, beauty, relationships, and balance. When we think of Venus, we think about things that have to do with love, such how we love, how we give, and how we get. When a month opens on a Venus day, it sets the mood for emotional growth, stronger relationships, and the desire for balance in all parts of life. This means that August 2025 will tell us to take things easy, connect with others in a real sense, and be among things that make us feel good. This month, we should put the quality of our relationships and our emotional peace ahead of our ambitions or outside rewards. Number 6: The Frequency of Care, Love, and Inner Balance The vibration of the number 6 makes up most of the energy on August 1st, which is a great match for Venus. The number 6 in numerology means being responsible, serving others, caring, and keeping your emotions in check. The number of the healer and the peacemaker, the ones who restore peace back to families, relationships, and communities. In August, you should take care of the things that are most important to you, such your home, your heart, your relationships, and your mental health. But this compassion has to come from a place of completeness, not from giving up anything. Number 6 reminds us that true love doesn't take away; it gives back. You need to be emotionally mature and have self-respect in order to be kind. Angel Number 18: Trust the Ending, Embrace the Shift The whole date of August 1, 2025 adds up to 18 before it gets down to a single number. Angel Number 18 in angelic numerology signifies that things are coming to an end, but these ends will lead to new, better beginnings. It tells you to get rid of old behaviors, emotional baggage, or money difficulties that are holding you back from growing as a person. This number means that something has changed. You could want to complete things that have been bugging you for a time, or you might find that they just stop on their own. Don't try to fight it. Angel Number 18 says that everything that is happening right now is part of God's plan. Have trust and let go of the past; what comes next will help you grow. Number 9: Completion, Wisdom, and a Higher Calling Nine is the result of adding one and eight. August 1 is a Destiny Number 9, which means spiritual understanding, service, and going beyond your emotions. The 9 energy is about forgiving others, healing karmic scars, and ending cycles with wisdom. It is a number that reminds us to set our egos aside and work toward something bigger than us. August 2025 is a fantastic month for soul growth because of its effect. You can fix pain that has been passed down through the years, learn to be more kind, and make choices based on what you know instead of how you feel. This number implies that anything you let go of today allows place for deeper alignment, whether it's the end of a chapter or a transformation in how you see life. The Universe's Message for August 2025 The universe offers a clear and timely message: "Fix what isn't working." This term comes from Venus on Friday, the compassionate energy of Number 6, the change that Angel Number 18 represents, and the wisdom of Destiny Number 9. Stop doing things that aren't working. Love the things that are important. And move forth on your path to a better life. This month isn't about doing everything you can to go ahead. It's about taking a step back, getting back to your center, and choosing love over fear. August 2025 is an excellent time to reconnect with what counts, adjust your emotional priorities, and let go of things that have run their course. Use your feelings and what you know to help you make decisions. This month is all about healing, finding peace, and making changes that are easy to accept. Love kadhi chawal? This spring onion kadhi will fix those rainy afternoon blues
God bless whoever came up with the iconic kadhi chawal, rajma chawal and chole chawal combos because what would our food-gorging souls do without them. Nothing like a steaming hot plate of kadhi chawal when it's pouring outside!(Photo: The Foodscape) Earthy delicacies like these are not just suspiciously simple but also hit the spot no matter the weather outside. Now the one upside to the chaotic Delhi monsoons we're all weathering, is that these plates of bliss hit extra hard — and we're here for it, albeit with an interesting twist. Now for anyone thinking we're saying it's ok to mess with the sanctity of classic pairings, this might be that dish which ends up changing your mind. Food purists! You will not regret trying this out. Spring onion kadhi Ingredients: Dahi - 1 cup, gram flour (besan) - 1.5tbsps, water (to whisk the curd mix) - 1.5 to 2 cups, oil - 1tbsp, mustard seeds - 1tsp, cumin seeds - 1tsp, fenugreek seeds - 1/2tsp, ginger-garlic and green chilli paste - 1/2tbsp, curry leaves - 6 to 7, chopped spring onions (bulbs and greens) - 1 cup, salt - 1tsp, coriander leaves - a handful, ghee for tadka - 1tsp, red chilli powder - for tadka Method: Whisk the curd, besan and water till it's lump-free and set this aside. Heat oil in a kadhai and add the rai, jeera and methi seeds — let them splutter. Then in goes the ginger-garlic green chilli paste followed by the curry leaves and spring onions. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes till they begin to soften and then go in with the whisked curd slurry on low flame. Add salt and let this simmer on low for 10 to 12 minutes. Serve with steaming hot rice. If made thin enough, this makes for an incredibly comforting meal as is. (recipe from Dining with Dhoot) We hope this inspired you to declare it kadhi chawal hour!

CAQM sets up cell in Mohali for paddy residue management
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has set up a permanent cell in Mohali's SAS Nagar to strengthen year-round monitoring and coordination for effective management of paddy stubble in Punjab and Haryana. Earlier, a temporary Paddy Stubble Management Cell operated in Chandigarh from October 1 to November 30, 2024, during the critical residue burning period. (ANI) In a statement, the CAQM said the new facility at the Kisan Vikas Chamber in Kalkat Bhawan will oversee the preparation of plans, engagement with farmers and other stakeholders and monitoring of the supply chain to ensure continuous and assured use of paddy straw by end-users. 'The cell will now operate round the year right from the start of preparation of plans, engagement with farmers and all other stakeholders related to effective paddy stubble management,' the commission said. Apart from stubble management, the cell will also monitor air pollution aspects in identified thermal power plants and coordinate the co-firing of biomass. It will inspect and track air quality-related issues across all sectors in NCR areas of Haryana, particularly those farther from Delhi. The facility is expected to play a crucial role in coordinating efforts with the state agriculture departments of Punjab and Haryana, field enforcement teams and flying squads, especially during the peak paddy harvesting and stubble burning season. Earlier, a temporary Paddy Stubble Management Cell operated in Chandigarh from October 1 to November 30, 2024, during the critical residue burning period. Recognising that stubble management, particularly ex-situ use of paddy straw, requires continuous effort, the CAQM had urged the Punjab government to provide infrastructure and logistical support for sustained planning and execution.
