Robert Carlyle cast as Sherlock Holmes in CBS drama series

Watson offers a modern twist on the classic detective stories, focusing not on criminal investigations, but on complex medical mysteries.
The show follows Watson and his team as they work to diagnose and treat some of the world's rarest diseases.
Season two picks up with the team continuing their mission after defeating Moriarty in the previous season.

Series showrunner Craig Sweeny confirmed the casting news, saying: 'We are thrilled to have the mighty Robert Carlyle join the cast of Watson in season two.
"The man has played iconic roles in projects like Trainspotting, The Full Monty, and 28 Weeks Later, and now he steps into the shoes of the most iconic detective of all—Sherlock Holmes.
"When Watson's best friend and former partner makes a shocking reappearance in his life, Watson is forced to confront their shared past—and a secret that may lie buried within Watson's own body.'
The introduction of Sherlock Holmes comes as something of a surprise, as Sweeny had previously stated there were no plans to feature the character in the series.
In an interview from January, he explained to Deadline: 'If you have Watson front and centre, to allow that character to shine, you definitely don't want him competing with the most famous character in all of literature.
"So a very natural construction for me was to begin with the death of Holmes at Reichenbach Falls.'
At the time, he added: 'My belief is that Holmes is gone. I don't want to be held to that if there's some great story that presents itself, but I don't believe that we're ever going to feature Sherlock as an ongoing character in the show Watson—at this time.'
The second season of Watson premieres at 10 p.m. on Monday, October 13, on CBS, and will also be available to stream on Paramount+.

Netflix drama is axed despite 11 million views over a weekend

A Netflix drama starring Arnold Schwazenegger has been suddenly axed from the streaming platform despite racking up 11 million views by subscribers over its opening weekend A hit Netflix drama starring legendary actor Arnold Schwazenegger has been suddenly axed by the streaming platform. The action comedy titled Fubar is the Hollywood actor's first move into the world of TV. The first season of Fubar saw 11million people watch the TV show over a weekend in May 2023. ‌ But the second season only garnered 2.2million views, which, according to Deadline, is reportedly the reason for it being axed. In a bid to promote the TV series, Arnold, best known as Arnie among his fans, announced his latest project in 2021. ‌ It comes after reports Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set for new 'goldmine' offer - but could face issue. ‌ At the time he told fans: "Fans from all over the world have been asking me for a wild ride like this for years, and now they're finally going to get it because of our great partners at Skydance and Netflix." He added: "I am beyond pumped to start work on the show with [creator] Nick [Santora] and Monica and the whole team." ‌ Arnold plays a CIA operator named Luke Brunner and Monica Barbaro plays his daughter. The series shows the pair solving their "high stakes missions" while dealing with their "awkward family dynamics." Ahead of the second season, fans expressed concern for the show as its return was less than impressive. Taking to X one fan wrote: "Season 2 of FUBAR was full of action and found family but felt underwhelming in prioritising messy love triangles over character growth." ‌ Another said: "[Netflix] keep increasing prices and refusing to give shows that people love a last season. I am going to FINALLY cancel Netflix if Fubar doesn't get a 3rd season." ‌ And on Rotten Tomatoes, one user penned: "The first season wasn't this bad. The acting is horrible, the direction is awful, the story is ridiculous and the dialogue dreadful. " They continued: "The premise is stupid and then it went downhill from there. There were times I literally cringed." But in order to balance the negative comments, one person wrote that it was "quirky but brilliant" and went on to say it was "terrific fun." A second added: "Just finished Fubar S2. This show is just great. A bit slap stick, but clever and just fun. Stand out performances from absolutely every cast member, my fav from Andy Buckley he was hilarious. "

Tom Holland spotted on Spider-Man set in Glasgow

On Sunday, 29-year-old Hollywood star Holland was spotted rehearsing scenes and waving to fans while clad in the superhero's famous suit. Spider-Man 4, officially titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is helmed by Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton. It is slated for a July 2026 release. Road closures and diversions throughout Glasgow can be expected until at least August 15. Plot details remain under wraps, but long-time Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal, while appearing on Deadline's Behind the Lens podcast in December last year, teased what we can expect from the story. She said: 'We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker [in No Way Home], and that he was going to focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard.' The most recent Spider-Man film, 2021's No Way Home, was a huge box office success, grossing $1.9bn worldwide - making it the sixth highest-grossing movie in history.

Fubar, which the former professional bodybuilder, 78, starred in alongside Monica Barbaro, was his first foray into television. According to Deadline, the cancellation of the show was due to a drop in viewership after its June season two premiere. The first season of Fubar debuted in May 2023 and saw a whopping 11 million views, while the second series had only 2.2 million in the same weekend time frame. Schwarzenegger announced that he would be starring in Fubar in 2021, sharing: 'Fans from all over the world have been asking me for a wild ride like this for years, and now they're finally going to get it because of our great partners at Skydance and Netflix. After discovering they both secretly work for the CIA, 'their high-stakes missions get tangled up with awkward family dynamics.' Fubar also starred Milan Carter, Gabriel Luna, Travis Van Winkle, and Jay Baruchel among others. In addition to creator, Nick Santora was showrunner and executive producer, alongside Schwarzenegger. The second season had been hotly anticipated by fans, but viewers were worried the show could be on the chopping block — with many admitting it was a less-than-stellar return. @firdaus_sheik took to X to describe the season as a 'tough watch' while @SaidWhatWeSaid wrote: 'Season 2 of FUBAR was full of action and found family but felt underwhelming in prioritising messy love triangles over character growth.' @rbaccari9 feared the show would get cancelled 'before it gets a deserved final season', writing: '[Netflix] keep increasing prices and refusing to give shows that people love a last season. I am going to FINALLY cancel Netflix if Fubar doesn't get a 3rd season.' The acting is horrible, the direction is awful, the story is ridiculous and the dialogue dreadful. The premise is stupid and then it went downhill from there. There were times I literally cringed.' Ouch. However, not all the reactions were negative, with many Netflix subscribers taking to X to praise the second season. @itswallsworld said the 'quirky but brilliant' CIA team headed up by Schwarzenegger brought 'terrific fun'. @Kilts4me echoed: 'Just finished Fubar S2.
