Allu Arjun recalls his 18 consecutive flops, took one year off to introspect: ‘I delivered by biggest hit after that, then Pushpa…'

Allu Arjun may be a box office force to reckon with now, but there was a time not too long ago when he delivered 18 flops. That long lull prompted him to take a year off to introspect. Arjun considers it a great decision in hindsight now, given his biggest hits, including the Pushpa franchise, followed that break.
'Eighteen of my films failed at the box office. They didn't do so well. I wanted to take a break for six months. Accidentally, it happened to be 12-13 months. But I wanted a seven- to eight-month break and I wanted to introspect. I wanted to take some time off. I took a year off, almost a year, by accident though. There was a lot of introspection being done,' said Arjun at WAVES Summit 2025 in Mumbai.
'Genuinely, that was one of the best breaks I had. Because after that, I had Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, which was my biggest hit and an industry record. It's one of the biggest Telugu hits ever. After that, there was Pushpa and Pushpa 2. One year really helped me introspect a lot,' added Arjun.
Son of veteran film producer and distributor Allu Aravind, Arjun made his acting debut as a child artist in A. Kodandarami Reddy's Vijetha, which was backed by his father's production house Geetha Arts. Arjun made his debut as a lead actor in K. Raghavendra Rao's 100th directorial venture, Gangotri, in 2003.
However, Arjun's career soon began to take a beating. He delivered flops like Sukumar's 2009 action romance Arya 2, a sequel to their 2004 hit Arya. More flops followed, like Gunasekhar's 2010 action romance Varudu and Vakkantham Vamsi's 2018 action film Naa Peru Surya. After taking a year-long break, Arjun returned with a bang with Trivikram Srinivas' 2020 action drama Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.
He raised the stakes further with another blockbuster in Sukumar's 2021 period gangster film Pushpa: The Rise. Arjun made history with that film, becoming the first Telugu actor to win the National Award for Best Actor. He broke several box office records with the sequel, Sukumar's Pushpa 2: The Rule, last year as it became the highest grossing film in India.
Arjun is all set to collaborate with Atlee and Trivikram Srinivas for his next two projects respectively. The currently untitled movie with Atlee was officially announced on the occasion of Arjun's 43rd birthday last month. 'Magic with mass & a world beyond imagination! #AA22. Teaming up with @Atlee_dir garu for something truly spectacular with the unparalleled support of @sunpictures,' Arjun wrote on X.
Atlee, known for Tamil films Mersal, Theri, and Hindi movie Jawan, wished the actor on his birthday. 'Happy Birthday @alluarjun sir, Love you sir. Thank you Kalanithi Maran sir & @sunpictures for making my dream a reality. Let's have a blast GEAR UP #A22xA6,' the filmmaker wrote.

Ludhiana: Teacher brings Telugu to life with nursery rhyme in school

After the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) asked schools to teach the basics of Telugu under the Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp, Karamjeet Singh Grewal, a government schoolteacher in Ludhiana, went a step ahead as he made students sing a Telugu nursery rhyme. His initiative became the highlight of the Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp that commenced across the state schools on Thursday. Grewal, who teaches Punjabi at Government High School, Kheri Jhameri, taught his class 7 and 8 students a Telugu nursery rhyme called 'Cheeni Cheeni Papa Aalu'. The students sang the song with perfect pronunciation and rhythm. They even recorded a video of their performance and uploaded it to YouTube where it received praise from people across India, including native Telugu speakers. As per the PSEB directions, students are to be taught simple Telugu alphabet, colour names, basic sentences and greetings. But Grewal decided to go a step further. 'I want the children to enjoy the process, not just learn the words,' said Grewal. 'Because of my connection with the Scouts and Guides fellowship, I contacted some friends from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. They helped me choose a meaningful Telugu rhyme and explained its cultural background. I then composed a simple tune to go with it.' The rhyme became an instant hit in the classroom. After just two days of practice, the students were able to sing the rhyme confidently. Grewal's passion for music started in his childhood, when he would sing devotional songs during village morning processions called 'Prabhat Pheris' in Lalton Kalan, Ludhiana. He went on to earn a master's degree in music and has written and composed over 800 songs for children in various Indian languages. In addition to Telugu, he has recorded nursery rhymes in Tamil, Gujarati and Assamese. He now aims to create nursery rhymes in all 24 official Indian languages and eventually branch out into foreign languages too. 'Music is a wonderful way to learn. It brings people together and makes learning joyful,' he said. Grewal has been recognised at both the state and national levels. He received a state award in 2009 and a national teaching award in 2013. In 2022, during India's 75th Independence anniversary celebrations, he won the top prize in a national lullaby contest for a patriotic Punjabi lori (lullaby). His efforts have been praised not just for creativity but for promoting India's cultural unity. At a time when many children struggle to learn new languages, Grewal has shown that music can act as a bridge between regions and cultures. He believes teachers can make a huge difference when given the freedom to innovate. 'If we teach with love and creativity, children will naturally develop interest,' he said. 'Learning a language is like opening a door to someone's culture—and children are the best ambassadors of that idea.'

Gul Panag on all things gold! Says her husband has always surprised her with the yellow metal as a gift

Gul Panag At a recent event Gul Panag was seen flaunting aviation inspired jewellry. The actress loves gems and jewels but she's drawn towards more wearable pieces. She tells us, 'I've always been drawn to jewellery that's wearable—pieces that don't just sit in a locker but actually become part of your everyday or personal style. For me, the value of jewellery comes from how seamlessly it can be worn, how it fits into your life rather than just symbolising it.' The actress who's a pilot, was enamoured seeing pieces inspired by runway and became a part of the Runway Collection launch. She said, 'As a pilot, seeing a collection that draws inspiration from aviation—necklaces, brooches, even watch charms designed around the concept of flying—felt very personal. There's something special about jewellery that speaks to your passions.' Ask her about her inclination towards gold, and the Dor actress says, 'Gold has always been a part of my life, but I wouldn't say I'm rigid about it. I also respect what gold has represented over the years, especially in Indian households—stability, tradition, even empowerment. I started working at 20, and I remember one of my first big purchases was gold in 2002. It was Rupees 3,500 for 10 grams back then. I bought a pair of earrings for Rupees 25,000. Every year, especially around Dhanteras, I'd buy something—small or big. It was my way of slowly building something valuable and meaningful.' The one person who's surprsing her with gold is her husband Nihal. 'He's firmly in the gold camp. He's been buying me gold for 20 years (since the time he has been her boyfriend). That's his thing. Birthdays, anniversaries—any occasion, and it's always gold. He sees it as a smart investment and, honestly, he's not wrong.' One of the most special pieces she owns is a polki navratan bajubandh—an armlet that was gifted to her by her parents at her wedding. 'It has a large polki in the centre surrounded by nine precious stones. It's striking, traditional, and one of my most treasured pieces—not just because of how it looks, but because of the emotion and memory attached to it,' she said. Deepika Padukone's ‘Spirit' fallout impact her role in ‘Kalki 2'?

The controversy surrounding Deepika Padukone 's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga 's 'Spirit' is now believed to be affecting her involvement in another major Prabhas-starrer, 'Kalki 2'. Deepika, who had a short but pivotal role in 'Kalki 2898 AD', was expected to return in a much more prominent capacity in the sequel. Director Nag Ashwin has reportedly developed a deeper, meatier arc for her character in 'Kalki 2', one that is central to the storyline. However, the Telugu 360 website reports that Deepika's firm stance on work conditions and scheduling is causing delays in locking her for the second part. Report suggests that despite losing 'Spirit' over similar demands, Deepika is maintaining the same approach, including strict working hours and detailed date coordination. This has left the 'Kalki' team in a dilemma, with rumours surfacing that the makers may explore recasting options if a compromise isn't reached. Fallout from 'Spirit': What Went Wrong? Deepika's professional relationship with Sandeep Reddy Vanga reportedly soured over differences related to work conditions and remuneration. Sources claim she demanded Rs 25 crore and a 10% profit share for 'Spirit', along with a strict 8-hour workday – a clause reportedly tied to her recent motherhood. These demands allegedly led to her being replaced by Triptii Dimri. The fallout went public when Sandeep took indirect digs on social media, adding fuel to the already burning debate. Industry Divided Over Demands This has stirred a broader conversation in the industry around work-life balance, especially for women returning to sets post-maternity. While some have criticized Deepika's terms as excessive, others, including Mani Ratnam and Pankaj Tripathi , have voiced support for fair working hours.
