'Even the finest towels can sometimes grow stiff, scratchy and dingy and lose absorbency. This can be due to buildup of laundry detergent and, most commonly, the minerals in hard water,' says Smith. To remove buildup and restore absorbency, she recommends washing your bath towel in warm to hot (not scalding) water with one cup of vinegar.
