The man was hovering above the waters of Fuerteventura, practising the sport of Downward Foiling when the shark attacked his board and bit him deeply in the leg.

Spanish TV channel Antena 3 reported on the terrifying attack, explaining that the man was practising downwind foiling - a sport where a surfer uses a hydrofoil board to glide smoothly over the ocean's surface.
The outlet published a video showing two bloody gashes just below the man's knee.
His wounds - described as "deep" - gave rise to panic.
Luckily, no tragedy occurred, and the man was able to make his way back to the shore in the area of Los Molinos, located on the west coast of Fuerteventura.
No details are given about how the man fought off the shark.
Sharks have been spotted before off Fuerteventura and beaches have had to be closed when jet ski patrols raised the alert.

'Having spent a lot of time in nightlife spaces — especially working as a DJ — I've sadly seen just how common spiking still is. "Several of my close friends have had their drinks spiked, both in the UK and abroad, and there's lots of cases where boys are spiked for pranks. Advertisement READ MORE ON DRINK SPIKING Terrifying trend 'It seems like everyone, including myself, has either been spiked or knows someone who has. "I want to raise awareness, especially as we're going into festival season and summer and people are out in beer gardens and so on.' Victims have been spiked before being sexually assaulted or robbed, and recent cases have shown that some people are also drugging others for a 'joke'. Latest figures from the National Police Chiefs' Council show there were 6,732 recorded spiking cases in the 12 months to April 2023, including 957 reports of needle spiking, which involves victims being injected with drugs. Advertisement Most read in The Sun Breaking Freedom of Information requests also show constabularies across the country are dealing with more cases than ever. Children as young as 11 are even being targeted with drugs including ketamine, Rohypnol, MDMA and gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB). Greater Manchester Police recorded 463 spiking incidents last year, compared to 128 in 2019. Some 78 victims were aged 16 to 18, and 14 were between 11 and 15 years old. Meanwhile, West Midlands Police logged 183 suspected incidents against women last year, compared to 25 in 2020. There were 105 reported involving male victims. Advertisement And in West Yorks, cops had reports of 444 drink spiking incidents last year, compared to 143 in 2019. Ashley is raising awareness alongside campaign group CounterSpike. They have created a SpikeStixx kit, which allows people to test their drinks for a range of drugs. The TV host says she would never now 'accept drinks from strangers' or leave her glass unattended. Drink spiking is the most common method, but drugs have also been added to vapes and food. And a terrifying new trend called needle spiking has emerged in recent years. More than 140 people reported being jabbed at France's Fete de La Musique festival last month. Police, who made a number of arrests, did not say at the time if it was needle-spiking. Mum-of-one Cara Sayer was at a singles night at a bar in Esher, Surrey, in 2021 when she was spiked. The 53-year-old, who runs her own company, SnoozeShade, said: 'I went with a girlfriend. I had to be up early the next day so didn't drink excessively. 'My last coherent memory was my friend leaving at 9.45pm. After that, I vaguely remember wobbling around the dance floor. 'It took away any element of control and that was terrifying.' Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced in November that tampering with someone's drink is set to become a specific crime. To bring charges, cops must have evidence of the substance, a suspect, and CCTV footage of them spiking the victim or a credible eyewitness. Police dealt with in 2023, only six per cent ended in an arrest. But there have been some successful prosecutions. In May, Paige Myer, from Northumberland, received a six-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, after she was convicted at Newcastle crown court of 'administering a poison'. Advertisement She was in a pub when she spiked a woman with amyl nitrite, known as poppers, for a 'joke'. 'Took away control' And in January, Vikas Nath, 61 — a director of the Michelin-starred Mayfair restaurant Benares — was charged with administering a substance with intent of overpowering a woman for sexual activity. He denies the claim and is due to stand trial next year. Colin Mackie, who founded charity Spike Aware after his son Greg, 18, died from a suspected spiking in 2017, said: 'Recently, we were contacted by an 82-year-old man who was spiked and robbed on holiday in Spain. He was walking down the strip when two girls said, 'Come to our pub for our complimentary drink and to watch the football'. 'One brought him a beer. The next thing he knows he's on the floor. Advertisement "He was taken to hospital and it turned out he'd been spiked and, three days later, he noticed one of his credit cards had gone missing. 'When he went to check, £2,500 had been taken out of his account.' Colin also revealed he had been contacted by the parents of an 11-year-old from Liverpool whose life changed after he was spiked. Sick son decapitated dad and posted twisted video on YouTube with explanation
A man from Pennsylvania in the US who beheaded his father and posted a chilling video of the severed head on YouTube has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole. Justin D. Mohn, 33, was found guilty of first-degree murder and several other charges related to the killing of his father, 68 year old Michael F. Mohn, at their home in Levittown, a suburb of Philadelphia, in the U.S., in January 2024. The verdict and sentence were delivered by Bucks County Judge Stephen A. Corr, who presided over the bench trial, describing the crime as "unimaginable." Prosecutors stated that Mohn fatally shot his father with a newly bought pistol before beheading him using a kitchen knife and a machete, reports the Mirror. Mohn posted a lengty video to YouTube He then filmed a 14-minute video showing his father's severed head, which he uploaded to YouTube. The video remained live for several hours before it was taken down. The footage included lengthy tirades about the U.S. government, immigration, fiscal policy, urban crime, and the war in Ukraine. In the video, Mohn labelled his father - a long-serving federal employee who worked as an engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Philadelphia District - as a traitor. He claimed his actions were meant to intimidate federal workers and compel them to meet his demands, which included their resignation. Prosecutors characterised the killing as "cold, calculated, [and] organised," comparing it to "something straight out of a horror film." Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said after the sentencing: "It's unimaginable what the defendant did to his father and to his family. I know this verdict does provide some level of justice, but it will never heal their wounds. We are satisfied that this was the right outcome to guarantee that the community at large is safe from Justin Mohn." Relatives delivered heartbreaking victim impact statements in court, paying tribute to Michael Mohn as a devoted husband and father, a modest man with a keen wit who loved reading, keeping fit, and strumming his guitar. Mohn, who represented himself during portions of the hearing, gave evidence that he shot his father whilst trying to "arrest" him for what he alleged were fraudulent claims and treachery. When officers arrested him later that same day, Mohn had climbed over fencing at Fort Indiantown Gap, the Pennsylvania National Guard's base. Officials said he was carrying a USB stick loaded with photographs of federal buildings and what appeared to be bomb-making instructions. The prosecution also disclosed Mohn had a track record of sharing violent anti-establishment rants online and had penned a correspondence to Russia's envoy to the United States, saying sorry to President Vladimir Putin for pretending to be the Russian czar and pleading for sanctuary. Mohn's defence barrister, Steven M. Jones, described the case as "undoubtedly difficult," pointing out that prosecutors had originally pursued the death penalty. He refused to comment on whether his client would lodge an appeal. Alongside first-degree murder, Mohn was found guilty of possession of an instrument of crime, firearms offences, criminal use of a communication facility, terroristic threats, defiant trespassing, and abuse of a corpse. Throughout the trial, the judge warned those present about the disturbing images being presented as evidence, offering them the chance to exit the courtroom before viewing them. Michael Mohn's wife, Denice, gave evidence that she and her husband had been providing their son with financial and emotional support whilst he searched for employment. She revealed that police had previously called at their home to caution him about his online posts. Schorn branded Mohn's behaviour as showing a "complete and utter lack of remorse," describing it as an "unimaginable, unfathomable crime." Mohn will now serve the remainder of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole.
