Johor police say woman in employer assault case suffered bruises, had pre-existing health issues
JOHOR BARU, June 18 — Police have confirmed that a female employee who was beaten by her employer in an incident at an office in Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang here on May 15 had other health problems before the incident was reported to have occurred.
Seri Alam District Police Chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said this was based on a medical report from the hospital which also stated that the 34-year-old woman only suffered scratches and bruises as a result of the incident.
'This woman did indeed have an illness and needed surgery and it was not related to or caused by the case (incident).
We have taken this matter to the medical officer and they confirmed that it was a minor injury and so far the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code,' he said when met by reporters at the Johor Contingent Level Monthly Gathering at the Johor contingent police headquarters, here today.
He said this when asked to comment on the claim that went viral on social media that the woman needed to undergo treatment and surgery in hospital due to injuries from the incident.
He said his party had completed the investigation papers and they had been submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for charges.
Mohd Sohaimi was previously quoted as saying that the police were investigating following a viral video recording showing a woman being assaulted by her employer in an office, with the report from the woman received on the same day at around 5.53pm. — Bernama

TAIPING, June 18 — The High Court here today reportedly dismissed the appeal of a trailer driver convicted of causing the death of four family members, including a police officer, in a crash on Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Kangsar in 2020. According to Harian Metro, Judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin instead increased the sentence for Y Vethri Vel, 31, to eight years' jail and an RM80,000 fine under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. He was initially sentenced in December 2023 to four years' jail and a RM20,000 fine under a Section 41(1)(b) of the same Act for driving under the influence of alcohol, causing death. The crash on 13 February 2020 killed police officer Mohamad Faiz Bakhari, his wife Nik Iedayu Nik Hassan, her sister Nik Ifeka Nik Hassan, and their infant son Mohamad Faqih Irsyad. The court rejected the defence's plea for a bond of good behaviour, citing the severity of the offence. The jail term will run concurrently from 13 June 2025, and the accused will be disqualified from holding a driving licence for three years.

Immigration busts fake document syndicates in Klang Valley

(Immigration Department Facebook pic) KUALA LUMPUR : The immigration department has smashed two syndicates involved in forging immigration stickers and temporary employment visit passes (PLKS), arresting four individuals in raids at several locations across the Klang Valley on Monday. Immigration director-general Zakaria Shaaban said the four suspects, aged between 40 and 43, were detained in a special operation at Jalan Ipoh and Maluri in Kuala Lumpur, and Petaling Jaya, Selangor, following complaints and two weeks of intelligence gathering. 'In the raids, conducted at 6.42pm, the immigration department arrested three locals: two women believed to be the masterminds of the syndicate, and one man. Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the women and the man are civil servants,' he said in a statement today. He added that the raids led to the seizure of 101 passports from various countries: 74 from Sri Lanka, 13 from Myanmar, six from Vietnam, two from Indonesia, two from Ghana, and one each from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Syria. Also seized were two mobile phones, a copy of a Companies Commission of Malaysia registration document, and a Toyota Vellfire used by the syndicate. 'Preliminary investigations indicate that the syndicate had been operating since the end of last year, charging up to RM11,000 per foreign national for a fake PLKS. 'The syndicate altered the details on the ePLKS. All those arrested have been brought to the immigration department headquarters in Putrajaya for further action. The case is being investigated under Section 12(1)(f) of the Passport Act 1966,' he said. In another raid at 11am on the same day at two locations around Jalan Ipoh, the immigration department arrested a Pakistani national suspected of leading a syndicate printing fake immigration stickers. Also questioned at the premises were one local man and two local women who were conducting business there. 'Preliminary checks revealed that the Pakistani national did not possess any valid travel documents or permit to be in the country. Investigations found that the syndicate was altering and printing fake immigration stickers for sale to undocumented migrants in the country. 'They were selling the stickers for between RM100 and RM120 each, depending on the country of issue. The Pakistani suspect has been detained under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966, and Immigration Regulations 1963, and is currently being held at the immigration depot in Putrajaya. 'As for the locals, they have been issued notices to report to the office to assist in the investigation,' he said. The items seized during the raid included 12 fake visa stickers for Bangladesh, India, the US, Indonesia and Pakistan, as well as a biometric passport data page sticker for Bangladesh, a desktop computer, a laptop and a printer.

Minister Na'im files defamation suit against lecturer
Religious affairs minister Na'im Mokhtar claimed that on Feb 5 and May 4, lecturer Abu Hafiz Salleh Hudin had published and reposted defamatory, malicious and untrue statements on the latter's X account. PETALING JAYA : Religious affairs minister Na'im Mokhtar has filed a defamation suit against a public university lecturer over alleged defamatory statements posted on social media. Harian Metro reported that Na'im named Abu Hafiz Salleh Hudin as the defendant in the lawsuit filed at the Shah Alam High Court via Messrs Akberdin & Co on June 14. The lawsuit relates to defamatory statements allegedly posted by Abu Hafiz on X and Facebook. In the statement of claim, Na'im said the defendant had shown a consistent pattern in his various public statements since the end of 2024, whether via posts on X or Facebook, or statements published by news portals. He said the statements had directly or indirectly touched on and attacked him in an unfair and excessive manner. Na'im claimed that on Feb 5 and May 4, Abu Hafiz had published and reposted defamatory, malicious and untrue statements on the latter's X account. He said the statements implied he was an arrogant, hard-headed and conceited leader who rejected advice and was unwilling to accept other views in matters related to religion. Na'im also said the statements implied he had failed to effectively carry out his duties, even in simple matters, causing the government's policies and initiatives to become a laughing stock and rejected by a number of MPs. Na'im said the statements also implied that he was an elitist and considered himself superior to other officials, and that he acted contrary to the principles of Islamic leadership. 'It is beyond doubt that the defendant harboured malicious intent towards me. It is also clear that the defendant intended to cause disharmony in society by defaming me,' he said. Na'im is seeking general, aggravated, and exemplary damages from the defendant, as well as an injunction to have the posts removed and to prevent them from being republished.
