Rockets fired at Iraq airport, wound two: Security sources - Region
Another rocket hit a house in the city of Kirkuk, causing material damage.
"Two Katyusha rockets fell in the military section of Kirkuk airport," slightly wounding two security personnel, the senior security official said, adding that one failed to explode.
"A third rocket struck a house in the Uruba neighbourhood," causing material damage, said the official, who requested anonymity as he is not allowed to speak to the media.
The military section of the airport hosts Iraqi army units, federal police, and the Hashed al-Shaabi, a coalition of former pro-Iranian paramilitary forces now integrated into the regular armed forces.
A security source told the official INA news agency that one of the rockets landed near the runaways, while another hit a house in the city.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attacks, which did not disrupt flights.
A few hours later, another senior security source told AFP that Iraq's anti-aircraft defence engaged at least one drone near the key refinery of Baiji in Salaheddin province, and "forced it to leave".
The oil ministry said in a statement that "there have been no incidents caused by falling foreign objects inside or in the vicinity of the refinery", which is still operational.
Iraq has long been a battleground of drone and rocket assaults and proved fertile ground for proxy wars.
But it only recently regained a semblance of stability after decades of devastating conflicts and turmoil.
Last week, hours before a ceasefire ended the 12-day Iran-Israel war, unidentified drones struck radar systems at two military bases in Baghdad and southern Iraq.
The government said it launched a probe into the drone attacks, but it has not yet identified any perpetrators.

UN says Iran aid budget will need to double after war - Region
The most senior UN official in Iran said Tuesday the organization's humanitarian and development aid budget to the country would need to be doubled following the war with Israel. Stefan Priesner, the UN resident coordinator in Iran, said he hoped the international community would step up with more funding. "We are now doing the budgeting" for 2025, he told a press briefing in Geneva. "It's a significant increase," he said. "It's a bit early to say how much we exactly need. But we certainly would expect a doubling of the funding." He said that last year's UN budget for development and humanitarian affairs in Iran was $75 million -- roughly $50 million for refugees and $25 million for the development programme. Iran hosts the largest number of refugees in the world -- around 3.5 million -- most of them from Afghanistan. Speaking from Tehran, Priesner said he hoped aid and development would be seen as separate from other issues and the situation would trigger the international community to increase its support. On June 13, Israel launched a major bombing campaign against Iran, killing top military commanders and nuclear scientists. The Israeli strikes hit military bases, nuclear sites and residential areas across Iran. Iran retaliated with waves of missiles and drone strikes, hitting cities in Israel. A ceasefire took effect on June 24. Priesner said that in 2022, the UN and the Iranian government agreed a five-year programme on public health, socio-economic resilience, environmental protection, disaster reduction and management, and drug control. The UN is now in talks with Tehran on "how to adapt the programme to meet emerging needs" following the conflict with Israel. Priesner indicated that the UN normally has 50 international staff in Iran and about 500 local staff. Although some employees and their families had to leave their homes when Israel's bombardment began, he said normal operations had resumed on Sunday. Ahmed Emam The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) announced their support today for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, amid rising tensions that have threatened to destabilize the Middle East, according to Al-Qahera News. In a joint statement, the G7 ministers urged both countries to 'avoid any actions that threaten regional stability,' and issued an urgent call for Iran to resume full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressed that 'the technology needed for uranium enrichment cannot be eradicated by bombing.' Speaking on Tuesday, Araghchi declared that a return to negotiations would require assurances that the United States would not resume targeting Iran. He added, 'The doors of diplomacy will never be closed.' Araghchi further asserted that the Iranian people would not succumb to international pressure regarding uranium enrichment.
