When the COVID-19 pandemic struck the Kingdom of Bahrain, it had profound implications on the nation's health, as well as its economy. In the midst of such uncertainty and tribulation, Dinah Sta Ana, a 65-year-old leader of the Pinay Ikaw Na (PIN) women's group in Bahrain, stood above the challenge and surpassed expectations by becoming a shining light of hope.
She went the extra mile in rendering aid to expatriates regardless of class and status including her fellow countrymen.
Dinah's commitment to offering support to the needy amidst such trying situations put her on the forefront of community action be it distributing food packs, providing much-needed things, or simply listening to lend an ear, she displayed extraordinary empathy and leadership.
Her services not only added beauty to the daily lives of many but also infused the oneness and defiance to the community at a time when they needed it the most.
Her selfless deed relieved a hard situation, and her commitment to assisting others was clear.
Philanthropy
The crisis sent Dinah surfing on a tide of philanthropy, exercising her charitable bicep during economic hard times.
She directed her activities towards supporting Filipino contract workers in industries most affected by the crisis, among them tourism and hospitality.
These were beauticians, barbers, hotel staff, waitresses, gym trainers, and massage therapists, all of whom were severely impacted by the crisis.
Recognizing their struggles, Dinah took action to provide assistance, ensuring that these workers received the support they needed to navigate difficult times.
Commitment
Her commitment to uplifting those who were most affected demonstrated her deep empathy and understanding of the community's needs.
The sense of accomplishment that she felt while distributing goods to our fellow kababayans at the height of the pandemic was overwhelming.
'I feel good about it whether in small ways or great ones it is the effort that is fulfilling, I was overcome with emotions and I found tears in my eyes. There is a spirituality in what I did that has taken me over completely,' Dinah related.
Personal capacity
Through her personal capacity, she donated financial assistance to overseas workers for their air tickets who have not been fortunate enough to find good employment and took the last resort of having to go back to our country penniless.
Dinah quietly worked behind the scenes, selflessly helping those in need and generously giving her personal resources without seeking recognition or fanfare.
Unlike others who often broadcast their contributions to the community, Dinah preferred to operate in humility, focusing on the impact of her actions rather than the accolades.

Philippines Invites Bahraini Investment

TDT | Manama A call to deepen economic ties between Bahrain and the Philippines is gaining momentum, with the Southeast Asian nation extending a targeted invitation to Bahraini investors to explore a range of high-value opportunities across tourism, renewable energy, and infrastructure. Yesterday, as the Philippines marked its 127th Independence Day, its Trade and Investment Centre in Riyadh reaffirmed the country's commitment to building strategic global partnerships. In an article penned by Philippine Commercial Attaché Vince Lorenzo T. Liwanag, Bahrain was specifically highlighted as a trusted ally due to its long-standing Filipino community of over 55,000 residents. According to Liwanag, this cultural presence forms a 'trusted bilateral network' and provides a ready-made bridge of familiarity and trust for Bahraini entrepreneurs and entities exploring business in the Philippines. The article stressed that Bahrain-based conglomerates, sovereign funds, and visionary investors are well-positioned to partner in sectors where the Philippines is actively seeking foreign participation. The Philippines posted a robust GDP growth of 5.6 percent in 2024, outperforming many regional peers. This growth was driven by a modernised incentive regime under the CREATE MORE Act and Executive Order 18, which facilitates fast-tracked approvals of high-impact investments through 'Green Lanes'. Tourism and halal gap Tourism is among the key sectors targeted for Gulf investment, with the country receiving 5.9 million tourists in 2024 and anticipating a need for 450,000 new hotel room keys by 2028. Liwanag noted a substantial market gap in halal-friendly hotels and restaurants, especially in popular destinations such as Cebu, Palawan, and Siargao. Medical tourism and retirement resorts are also flagged as growth areas, leveraging the Philippines' strong healthcare service sector and appeal among older travellers. Renewables and infrastructure Another priority area is renewable energy. The Philippines has become the second-most attractive emerging market for clean energy investment, according to BloombergNEF's Climatescope 2024. With more than $24 billion committed in 2024 alone, renewable energy accounted for 85 percent of the country's Board of Investments approvals. The country is also rich in green minerals like nickel, cobalt, and copper, with ambitions to locally process these for use in electric vehicles, energy storage, and clean-tech supply chains. Infrastructure offers further prospects. The government has outlined 173 flagship projects under its 'Build Better More' programme, worth $45 billion. Opportunities are open for Bahraini companies with engineering and construction capabilities to enter through Public-Private Partnerships or direct investment.

Emirates Launches Complimentary Coach Service

In a move to further enhance the travel experience for its Filipino passengers, Emirates will be introducing a new coach service exclusively for economy class customers flying to and from Clark International Airport (CRK). The complimentary service, which started on Tuesday, will connect Trinoma in Quezon City with Clark International Airport in Pampanga, offering a convenient and seamless transit option. The coach service will be available to Emirates passengers holding a valid flight ticket and traveling between Clark and Trinoma, with pickup and drop-off points located at the New Genesis P2P Trinoma Bus Terminal (code: TRP) and at Clark International Airport (CRK) in Pampanga. The service will be offered exclusively to economy class passengers booked on an Emirates flight. To be eligible for the coach service, passengers must hold an Emirates-issued ticket with the ticket number beginning with 176. Travelers must also have a confirmed coach booking at least 48 hours in advance, as those without prior reservation or a valid Emirates ticket will not be allowed to board. When buying flight tickets on customers must specify Trinoma (TRP) as the departure or arrival city to ensure that their booking on the bus is included on their flight ticket. For flight tickets purchased through an Emirates office or travel agent, customers should request the agent to include the Trinoma (TRP) bus on the ticket before issuing the ticket. This initiative is part of Emirates' ongoing commitment to improving accessibility while elevating the travel experience for its Filipino customers, particularly those based in Metro Manila and nearby areas. Through this offering, Emirates aims to make flying from the airport more convenient and stress-free. Emirates launched services to Manila in 1990 and grew its operations to include a circular service to Cebu and Clark. The airline currently serves the Philippines with 28 weekly flights, offering approximately 22,700 weekly seats to and from Dubai and connecting travellers to over 140 destinations across the airline's global network. Earlier this year, Emirates signed a new agreement with the Department of Tourism Philippines to help develop inbound visitor traffic from its expansive global network. The airline also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Philippine Airlines (PAL), to explore the potential expansion of their partnership across both passenger and cargo operations.
