SSUET celebrates Independence Day with enthusiasm
The occasion featured a flag hoisting ceremony attended by prominent figures, including Chancellor Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan, Erum Akbar Ali Khan, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Afzal Haq, Cdre Syed Sarfraz Ali SI (M) (retd), Masood Alam, Dr. Kashif Sheikh, Abdul Moeed Khan, Adnan Zahoor, Inam-ur-Rahmi, Mohsin Khan, Naushaba Siddiqui, along with deans, department heads, faculty members, staff, students, and Aligarians. Students Shakeel Ahmed and Adiya Barshagal conducted the event beautifully.
Chancellor Akbar Ali Khan emphasized the vital role of youth in Pakistan's foundation, recalling Quaid-e-Azam's recognition of the youth of Aligarh Muslim University as pioneers in the struggle for independence. He highlighted the importance of universities in shaping a strong, educated generation capable of leading the nation forward.
He also reflected on Sir Syed Ahmed Khan's vision, emphasizing that the development of the country hinges on education, and praised institutions like Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association, Aligarh Institute of Technology, and Sir Syed University for furthering Sir Syed's educational mission.
Chancellor Akbar Ali Khan urged students to be role models and to light the candle of knowledge to dispel ignorance and backwardness, paving the way for national progress.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Afzal Haq stressed that nation-building post-independence requires unity and modernization of education to achieve global recognition, noting that successful nations have prioritized educational reform.
Without advancement in economics, science, and technology, our position in the global community will remain vulnerable. Emphasizing modern technology and expanding business opportunities are essential to providing our youth with decent employment and economic stability.
The foundational efforts of Pakistan's founder were rooted in democratic principles.
Today, it is our duty to renew our commitment to those ideals, respecting the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah Registrar Cdre Sarfraz Ali SI (M) (retd) Syed, welcomed guests, emphasizing that Pakistan is more than just territory—it's an ideology and passion. He reaffirmed the commitment to uphold the country's founding principles.
Later, the delegation led by Chancellor Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan laid wreaths at Quaid-e-Azam's mausoleum and offered Fateha. They also paid respects at the graves of other national leaders, including Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan, Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan, Noorul Amin, and Sardar Abdul Rab Nishtar. Chancellor Akbar Ali Khan wrote comments in the visitors' book to honor Quiad's legacy.
The event was concluded with Dua by Dr Ammad ul Haq for the prosperity of the Muslim Umma and the university.

14th August Independence Day: The PyaraParcham of Pakistan
The Pakistan Flag is dark green in color, with a white vertical bar, a white crescent in the center, and a five-pointed star. Although the green represents the Muslims and the white is for Non-Muslims, one can also say that the white and green field represents peace and prosperity, the crescent means development, and the star denotes light and knowledge. On 11 August 1947, Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan presented the flag to the Constituent Assembly for its formal approval. In his speech, he observed '. . . the flag is not the flag of any one political party or any one community. The flag is the flag of the Pakistan nation. . . . The flag of every nation is not merely a piece of cloth, but it is what it stands for, and I can say without any fear of contradiction that this flag which I have the honor to present to this House, will stand for freedom, liberty, and equality for those who owe allegiance to this flag of Pakistan." That, of course, was 1947, and since then a lot of water has passed under the bridge. The flag has taken on a different status. It is also now in strong competition with other flags, not only outside the motherland, but here too. Today, this nation has so many flags that it is practically a Herculean task to keep track of them. The various political parties, whether they are national, provincial, local, or even tonga, have a flag. The politico-religious parties also have their standards. The ethno-political organizations need a flag to identify themselves. Student organizations proudly display their own brand of flags. It seems that flags now play a prominent role in this nation's political opera. What has become of the green and white that was visualized by the Founding Fathers as the symbol of equal privileges, equal opportunity, and equal freedom? What has become of the banner under which hundreds of thousands lost their lives and millions of Muslims migrated to a land they could proudly call their home? What has become of the standard for which the valiant armed forces sacrificed themselves in order to protect the citizens of this country? The flag is still ever-present and symbolically and ritually raised up and down on the poles outside the official buildings. The flag is very much desired by political aspirants who want it on their cars, so the world and the traffic cop can distinguish between an ordinary citizen and an unelected advisor to the Chief Minister. The flag is still on the table where the billions of dollars worth of MOUs are signed and where one always see the signatories clumsily get up in unison and exchange the documents. However, it seems that the people are not satisfied with just one flag. What they want is a two-flag the example of the "rulers". In Pakistan, those elected or selected become undisputed title-deed holders, or rulers, of the country until they are unceremoniously chucked out, legally or through extra-constitutional means. The national flag and the party flag are in equal importance on the car, in the office, in the garden of official or non-official residences of the party leadership from the top to the lower in the hierarchy. The party jalsas are full of these party flags. Of course, there, the country's flag may be spotted if one looks real hard all around. There have been many episodes in this nation's history where the other flags were more in motion. At the World Cup in Australia, many moons ago, where the Pakistan team emerged as the World Champions, the viewers witnessed a harrowing spectacle. Here too, tri-colors belonging to a Pakistani political party were fluttering side by side with the PiyaraParcham of Pakistan. Unfortunately, both the timing and the place for this kind of exhibition were way, way out of line. The patriotic people of Pakistan have become used to the disrespect shown to the flag by many in the audience who frequent the cinemas and are impatient to get on with the show, rather than standing in attention for a couple of minutes. The younger generation craves to hold and to wave the flag on important national days. One can see the gleam in their eyes when they do that. They truly show their love for the flag, even though they may not yet know what the Muslims of the sub-continent went through so that today they could proudly raise their very own national flag. Alas, the day they come into their late teens or adult life, they may switch their allegiance to another flag. What this country thus needs is to introduce the love for the flag in the minds of the populace. There is an imperative need to get rid of the flags of all parties, and have only one flag under which they would all stand and to which they will pledge their loyalty and allegiance. The time has arrived to donate all these flags to the rag boys who clean the trucks and the buses. The moment has arrived to ban,once and for all, any other flag. The citizens of Pakistan should and must salute, respect and fight for the green and white that is recognized all over the globe as the flag of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Has anyone ever seen any other flag other than the Old Glory at American political programs and rallies whether they are Democratic, Republican, or Green Party? Has anyone ever seen any flag except the Stars and Stripes at US sports events? No sir, that country has become the World Power because the citizens in the land of Uncle Sam undauntedly prove their loyalty by standing up, facing the flag, right hand over the heart, and in a strong voice filled with patriotic fervor, recite: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Marka-e-Haq 14th August Youm-e-Azaadi: Message from Khawaja M. Asif, Federal Minister for Defence of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan
I felicitate the entire Pakistani nation on the 78th Independence Day of Pakistan. This day marks the culmination of the historic political struggle of the Muslims of the subcontinent to establish a sovereign homeland. The creation of Pakistan through a peaceful and democratic struggle marks an unprecedented and unparalleled chapter in history. On this day, we pay homage to leaders and workers of the Pakistan movement as well as our forefathers who rendered innumerable sacrifices for Pakistan. Today, we need to set aside our differences and work committedly for the unity, integrity, and economic stability of the country in the face of current challenges. Our country has been blessed with abundant human and natural resources and it is our responsibility to utilize these for the welfare of our people. We reaffirm our moral, political, and diplomatic support to our Kashmiri brothers and sisters in their just struggle for the right to self-determination, in accordance with the United Nations resolutions. Their courage and resilience in the face of adversity remains an inspiration to us all. Today, we pay a heartfelt tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces for their decisive and valiant response during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos. Pakistan's valiant response in broad daylight to India's cowardly aggression, and the military's swift and resolute action in the face of provocation, will be remembered in history as a chapter written in golden letters. In a rapidly changing global security environment, Pakistan's Defence capabilities continue to strengthen, ensuring peace through preparedness and unwavering vigilance. As we celebrate this Independence Day, let us renew our pledge to work together for a stronger, more prosperous, and peaceful Pakistan. On the auspicious occasion of Pakistan's 78th Independence Day, I extend my heartiest felicitations to the entire nation. This day is a solemn reminder of the long struggle carried out by our ancestors who secured our freedom under the visionary leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. As we pay homage to our great leaders and forefathers, we also salute our martyrs and veterans whose supreme sacrifices have been instrumental in securing our freedom. It is incumbent upon all of us to value the blessing of freedom. It is also necessary to realize that the struggle for Pakistan was not earned out only by the Muslims of the Subcontinent but the religious minorities also took an active part in Pakistan Movement, and are playing their role in national progress. Today, Pakistan is not only an impregnable citadel of Islam but is also an embodiment of interfaith harmony and religious freedom. On the other hand, it is evident to all how Muslims in India are being treated as second and third grade citizens. At the heart of our national ethos lies Pakistaniyat—a unifying vision rooted in brotherhood, solidarity, and shared destiny. In today's complex global environment, the survival and unity of nations depend upon concord, vigilance, and comprehensive preparedness across all domains. Pride in our regional identity and adherence to our cultural traditions is an integral part of Pakistaniyat. However, amid the global community, only Pakistaniyat enables us to transcend divisions and chart a course towards our rightful place as a dignified nation on the international stage. In accordance with the universal principles of Islam, Pakistan seeks peace and security for all humanity. We have played an unforgettable role for promoting peace at home, in the region and across the globe. We have paid a heavy toll in men and material in order to defeat the scourge of terrorism and will continue to strive and extend all cooperation for its eradication. Pakistan not only strongly condemned the deplorable tragedy at Pahlgam but also offered transparent international investigations. Regrettably, intoxicated in her vain pride of strength, the Indian regime displayed its conventional imprudence and attacked Pakistan, targeting civil populations and mosques. The enemy attacks took the lives of numerous innocent citizens including children, women and elderly. In response to this naked aggression by the enemy, the Armed Forces of Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos which has gone down in history as a symbol of the valour and spirit of our Armed Forces. We thus established that wars are notwon by media rhetoric and political jugglery but by professional ability, constant readiness and national resolve. Throughout Marka-e-Haq, the nation demonstrated unwavering solidarity with the Armed Forces, our martyrs, and their families—an enduring testament to the unshakeable bond between the people of Pakistan and their defenders. This trust is our greatest strength and most precious asset that grants us the ability to safeguard our freedom, independence, and territorial integrity. In an era of rapidly shifting geo-strategic realities, Pakistan faces multifaceted challenges, calling for ever readiness, pragmatic understanding and professional skills. By the Grace of Allah, Pakistan Army is frilly cognizant of the conventional, unconventional and hybrid current and future challenges and possesses the requisite capabilities to meet any challenge decisively. Pakistan will continue to play a pivotal role to promote regional stability and reinforcing a security framework based on mutual cooperation. While Pakistan remains committed to peace, progress, and prosperity in the region, it will never compromise on its sovereignty or freedom. Any adventurism aimed at undermining Pakistan's territorial integrity will be met with an immediate, decisive, and resolute response. Our resolve to bring the war against terrorism to its logical conclusion remains unyielding. Let it be made unequivocally clear no one will be permitted to disrupt peace or sow chaos within Pakistan. We are fully aware of conspiracies and hostile designs that seek to aid Fitna-al-Khawarij and Fitna-al-Hindustan. All such elements will be confronted and crushed with the full force of the state—Insha'Allah. Pakistan reaffirms its unwavering support for our oppressed brothers and sisters in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and their legitimate struggle for self-determination. Marka-e-Haq has brought renewed global attention to the Kashmir Issue. The only just, fair, and lasting solution lies in granting the Kashmiri people their inalienable right to decide their own future. We also express our solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine, urging the international community to take concrete measures to ensure that their fundamental rights are protected. I conclude by paying glowing tribute to the heroes of our independence struggle and saluting our martyrs whose courage, steadfastness, and faith will forever illuminate our path. I hold full confidence in the professional competence and combat readiness of the Pakistan Army. We remain resolute in our duty to defend our homeland with integrity, selflessness, and unyielding resolve. This is a time to strengthen national unity, honour the legacy of our martyrs by carrying forward their mission, and strive for a sovereign, peaceful, and prosperous Pakistan. Let us reaffirm our pledge to make every sacrifice necessary to safeguard the frontiers of our beloved country, dedicating our collective energies to its enduring stability and progress.
