Mets' Francisco Lindor and Red Sox's Alex Cora Had Breakfast Together, Joked About Ejection

Yahoo22-05-2025

In the second game of the Boston Red Sox's series against the New York Mets, Red Sox starting pitcher Walker Buehler got ejected from the game after arguing a pitch was a strike despite the umpire ruling otherwise. Shortly after Buehler was ejected, Red Sox manager Alex Cora was also ejected.
The two got ejected following a series of events, starting with Francisco Lindor getting hit by a pitch and Buehler believing Lindor leaned into it. Juan Soto came to the plate, and on the second pitch of the at-bat, Buehler threw a pitch right down the middle as Lindor was trying to steal second.

Home plate umpire Mike Estabrook ruled the pitch a ball, despite it being a strike. Buehler and Estabrook went after it, leading to the ejection of both Buehler and Cora.
On WEEI Afternoons, Cora revealed that he and Lindor had breakfast the following morning, and laughed together amid the wild sequence that led to the ejection of Cora and Buehler.
Cora said, "We had breakfast this morning, and I saw the clip of him [Lindor] going 'throw him out, throw him out,' and then they threw him [Buehler] out, but then Trevor [Story] told me that after Walker got thrown out, Lindor was doing the same thing with me like, 'throw Alex out, throw Alex out,'... Francisco didn't tell me that this morning, but it's all fun and games, man."

Lindor and Cora are friends with each other, and meeting for breakfast during the brief time they're in the same city isn't strange. But, the incident that happened the night before, with Cora getting thrown out, partially due to Lindor, drew laughs from the two during their breakfast.

The ejection of Cora and Buehler happened early in the game, but the Red Sox bullpen came in and went the remaining 6.2 innings without allowing a run. It was a clutch performance from the bullpen, right as the Red Sox needed it.
Due to Lindor's actions at the plate, and on the base-paths, his friend in Cora got ejected. After the game, and the next morning, the two met up and joked with each other about the ejection of Buehler, and Cora's subsequent ejection right after.

The two friends will face off one more time before the Mets head out of Boston head back home to New York. With the Red Sox not scheduled to face the Mets again in 2025, Cora and Lindor got to hang out with one another for the last time this season.

Three Realistic Trade Targets for Chicago Cubs to Strike Before Window Closes

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Chicago Cubs fans have the feeling that this season may turn into the 2016 season all over again. Chicago sits in first place in the NL Central, off to its best start since 2016, when the Cubs eventually won the World Series. Despite the outstanding start, Chicago still has a few holes in its roster that will need to be addressed at the trade deadline. Team president Jed Hoyer has hinted that the Cubs will be focused on pitching help at the trade deadline. If that is indeed the route Chicago's front office takes, here are three potential trade deadline targets. NEW YORK, NY - JUNE 7: Aroldis Chapman #44 of the Boston Red Sox pitches during the ninth inning against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on June 7, 2025 in New York City.... NEW YORK, NY - JUNE 7: Aroldis Chapman #44 of the Boston Red Sox pitches during the ninth inning against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on June 7, 2025 in New York City. The Red Sox won 10-7 MoreAroldis Chapman, Boston Red Sox Chapman was a member of the Cubs' 2016 World Series team and his addition to the backend of the bullpen would be more than welcome. At 37 years old, Chapman's 99.1 mph average fastball velocity ranks in the 98th percentile, making him still one of the game's best late-inning relievers. His 11 saves and 37 strikeouts across 27 1/3 innings pitched is eye-opening and he would give the Cubs a much-needed high velocity left-handed pitcher in the bullpen. Chris Sale, Atlanta Braves Sale is not a name that would've been thought of at the beginning of the season, but he has now become an intriguing option due to the struggles from the Atlanta Braves. After a shaky start to the season, Sale has bounced back and has a 2.79 ERA with 107 strikeouts across 80 2/3 innings pitched. According to Baseball Savant, Sale ranks in the 94th percentile in chase rate at 34.5% and the 92nd percentile in strikeout rate at 31.7%. Chicago's pitching staff has the seventh-fewest number of strikeouts, so the punchout ability and stuff that Sale has would be an excellent addition. Sandy Alcantara, Miami Marlins Prior to the season, Alcantara was expected to be one of the most highly coveted trade targets, but a horrendous first half of the season may have changed that. He is 2-7 with a 7.89 ERA and just 44 strikeouts in 57 innings pitched. What many hoped to be a promising return from injury has very quickly gone sideways. A change of scenery could make all the difference in the world for Alcantara and going from an uncompetitive Marlins team to a World Series contending Cubs team could get him back on track and looking like the pitcher he was two seasons ago when he was awarded the NL Cy Young. Ken Rosenthal Calls Red Sox 'Disjointed' Amid Their Roman Anthony Decision

Ken Rosenthal Calls Red Sox 'Disjointed' Amid Their Roman Anthony Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Red Sox are taking center stage in the baseball world, as fans and media alike wait for the call-up of top prospect Roman Anthony. The Red Sox, however, have been playing a waiting game in making that decision. Advertisement During a segment on Foul Territory, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal described the Red Sox's decision regarding Anthony's call-up in one word: disjointed. "They're disjointed," Rosenthal said. "They're not in a cohesive state right now. Disjointed in the way the roster has been put together." Red Sox manager Alex Cora has been playing coy about how the Red Sox plan to promote Anthony. Between the current state of the roster and the Red Sox's indecision when it comes to Anthony, Rosenthal called it disjointed. The Red Sox had been in the middle of a tough stretch, losing nine of their last 12 games. But, after winning back-to-back games against the New York Yankees in New York, the Red Sox's outlook looks a lot better. Advertisement Anthony, amid all of the drama surrounding his call-up, has been raking in Triple-A. In 212 at-bats, Anthony has a .288 batting average with 10 home runs, 29 RBIs, and an impressive .914 OPS. Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony (48) is congratulated after he scored a run against the Philadelphia Phillies during the third inning at BayCare Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images He has 61 hits, 45 runs scored, nine doubles, two triples, three stolen bases, 51 walks, and 56 strikeouts. Not only is Anthony hitting for power, but he's also showing how disciplined he is at the plate. Anthony isn't the top prospect in baseball just for his hitting either. He has incredible fielding numbers. Across time in left field, center field, and right field, Anthony doesn't have a single error, and has a 1.000 fielding percentage. Advertisement With the Red Sox roster already strong in the outfield, the question regarding Anthony is where he'll be placed once he's called up. Rosenthal suggested shuffling things around, which included a ridiculous suggestion to move Kristian Campbell down to Triple-A and Ceddane Rafaela to second base. Regardless of what the Red Sox do in the field, with the Red Sox in win-now mode, Anthony should be on the MLB roster. The sentiment from Rosenthal is that the Red Sox are disjointed in their decision-making with Anthony.
