Blue Jays' John Schneider Makes Anthony Santander Announcement After Padres Game

Yahoo22-05-2025

The Toronto Blue Jays delivered a standout performance on Wednesday night, overwhelming the San Diego Padres with a 14-0 victory at Rogers Centre. This win marked their second consecutive shutout against the Padres, a first for the Blue Jays this season. The offensive onslaught was highlighted by Daulton Varsho's grand slam during a seven-run eighth inning.
Nathan Lukes initiated the scoring with a two-run homer in the fifth, while Bo Bichette contributed with an RBI single in the eighth. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer each added RBI singles, and pinch-hitter Jonatan Clase delivered a two-run double in the seventh, but it was him replacing Anthony Santander that caused concern among fans.

Despite the resounding win, the Blue Jays faced concerns when Santander exited the game in the seventh inning due to left hip inflammation. Manager John Schneider addressed the situation, announcing his power-hitting outfielder is fortunately just day-to-day.

"It was a little bit awkward and I don't want to take any chances with losing him for an extended period of time, so we'll see how he is tomorrow," he said.
Injuries have added to Santander's challenges this season, where he has struggled to find consistency at the plate. A potential absence could impact the Blue Jays' lineup depth, especially as they aim to build momentum following their recent victories.
On Thursday, the Blue Jays will aim to complete a series sweep against the Padres in the final game of their series. A win would push Toronto above the .500 mark, and strengthen their hold as the second seed in the American League East.
