Pakistan reaffirms commitment to tackling environmental crises
Pakistan reaffirmed on Thursday its commitment to playing full part in addressing critical environmental crises and in safeguarding the planet for future generations.
World Environment Day is being observed today to create awareness among the masses about protecting environment and eliminating pollution.
This year, the theme is 'Putting an End to Plastic Pollution'.
In a press release, the Foreign Office said that the day presents a significant opportunity to raise awareness about the urgent environmental challenges facing the world and to accelerate collective efforts to protect the planet.
'As one of the countries most affected by climate change, Pakistan appreciates the ongoing global initiatives to address the triple planetary crises: climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution,' the FO said.
Govt urged to develop strategy for combating plastic pollution
The statement said that while the world grapples with the formidable challenge of rampant plastic pollution on land, in rivers, and across our oceans, 'we believe that commemorating World Environment Day 2025 under the theme 'Beat Plastic Pollution' is both timely and vital.'
'This year's theme aligns closely with Pakistan's national efforts to combat plastic pollution. In April 2025, the Government of Pakistan launched the 'National Action Roadmap to Reduce Plastic Pollution,' which outlines a comprehensive strategy to mitigate plastic waste by reducing mismanaged waste and promoting circularity.'

The Foreign Office statement came after Modi made his first visit to IIOJK since the April 22 Pahalgam attack triggered a four-day war between the two nuclear-armed countries. During the visit, Modi launched a string of development projects for the disputed territory. "We are deeply dismayed that the Indian Prime Minister has once again chosen to accuse Pakistan of involvement in the Pahalgam attack, without presenting a single piece of credible evidence," the Foreign Office statement said. "Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognised disputed territory, the final status of which is to be determined in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people. No amount of rhetoric can change this legal and historical reality," it added. "Claims of development in IIOJK ring hollow against the backdrop of an unprecedented military presence, suppression of fundamental freedoms, arbitrary arrests, and a concerted effort to alter the region's demography in violation of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention." The Foreign Office reiterated that Pakistan remained steadfast in its principled support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their just struggle for their rights and dignity. It urged the international community to hold India accountable for its reign of oppression in IIOJK.

Pakistan condemns Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon
ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan unequivocally condemned air strikes by Israeli forces on Beirut's southern suburbs and parts of southern Lebanon on 5 June 2025, Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement. These attacks, launched on the eve of Eid al-Adha, constitute a blatant violation of international law, sovereignty of Lebanon, and the ceasefire agreement of November 2024. The spokesperson added the reckless use of force threatens civilian lives, fuels regional instability, and undermines efforts for lasting peace. Such statements represent a deliberate attempt to deflect international attention from the grave and persistent human rights violations being committed in a territory under foreign occupation, Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said in a statement. 'We are deeply dismayed that the Indian Prime Minister has once again chosen to accuse Pakistan of involvement in the Pahalgam attack, without presenting a single piece of credible evidence,' the spokesperson added. Pakistan rejects Modi's truce narrative, vows to 'closely monitor Indian actions' He pointed out that occupied Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognised disputed territory, the final status of which is to be determined in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people.
