Car catches fire after slamming into tree in Fontana; 1 dead, 4 hurt
One person died and four people were hospitalized after the vehicle they were in slammed into a tree and burst into flames in Fontana early Monday morning.
According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, crews responded to Arrow Boulevard and Sierra Avenue at 2:25 a.m. and found the wrecked car, a white Subaru, in the median.
The Subaru, which sustained extensive damage, caught fire after the collision, but the flames were quickly extinguished, officials said.
Firefighters then used extrication tools to free the trapped victims in approximately 12 minutes.
'A total of four patients were transported to local hospitals, including three to a regional trauma center,' the department said on social media. 'A fifth passenger was declared dead at the scene.'

None of the victims' identities were released, nor was any additional information surrounding their conditions.
Further details about the crash were not disclosed by the county fire department, which stated that the Fontana Police Department is handling the investigation.

MIAMI (AP) — The Miami Marlins are joining efforts to restore the defaced mural of baseball legends Jackie Robinson and Minnie Miñoso in Miami's Overtown neighborhood, which was marked with racist graffiti last week. This is a reminder and testament to the strength of our community, coming together to restore peace, beauty, and pride to this neighborhood.' Police were investigating the incident but have not made any arrests. City workers have since partially covered the murals of Robinson and Miñoso, an Afro-Cuban player, with wooden boards. The murals are along a fence at Dorsey Park, where Negro League teams once played baseball. The Marlins' home ballpark loanDepot park is just a few miles from the park. 'In light of the deeply troubling acts of vandalism at Dorsey Park, the Miami Marlins today proudly stand in solidarity with the City of Miami Chairwoman Christine King, and our local leaders in unequivocally condemning this hateful and racist act,' said Marlins owner Bruce Sherman. 'Dorsey Park is not only a landmark of historical and cultural significance in South Florida — it is a powerful symbol of resilience, pride, and the enduring contributions of trailblazers to the game of baseball." Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball when he signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 to become the first Black player. Miñoso became the league's first Afro-Latino player and the first Black player for the Chicago White Sox. Chicago man accused of stealing $400K of fitness equipment, other goods
CHICAGO — A Chicago man was arrested last week for allegedly selling $400,000 worth of stolen fitness equipment and other goods. Isadore House, 57, is facing a Class 1 felony count of theft after he was taken into custody Friday. The investigation into House began in April after the Cook County Sheriff's Office learned of fitness equipment stolen in a cargo theft. The merchandise was allegedly being sold by House on Facebook Marketplace. Undercover officers then purchased multiple pieces of fitness equipment from him over the course of several weeks at a storefront in the 1800 block of West 87th Street in Chicago and at a storage unit in the 0-100 block of West 85th Street.
