Former Watford manager reveals Parkinson's diagnosis
Former Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd has revealed he was diagnosed with Parkinson's three years ago.
The ex-England Under-21s boss succeeded Gareth Southgate as England Under-21s manager in 2016 and spent five years in the role before leaving in April 2021.
In a statement released on the League Managers Association's official website today (March 26), the 54-year-old revealed he was diagnosed in November 2021 following a health assessment.

'Three years ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's. The news came as a massive shock to me, following what I expected to be my routine LMA Annual Health Assessment,' Boothroyd said.
'It has taken me time to feel ready to share my diagnosis, and I have found it difficult not being completely open with people.
'Personally, my passion and love for coaching is as strong as ever, I am focusing on keeping physically fit, which is key to slowing down the progression of Parkinson's.
'I am ready to start the next chapter in my life. I would like to thank the LMA and Parkinson's UK for their support.'In a video released by the LMA, Boothroyd, who managed Watford between 2005 and 2008, described how difficult the last three years have been, but believes he now feels more comfortable to talk openly about his condition.
He said: 'Psychologically it's been tough, physically it's been easier, I'm coping well with that because I'm a former footballer who's worked on the grass every day as a coach, as a manager so that's easy getting up and being disciplined to go for a run or do some exercise, because exercise is the key thing in staving off this condition.
'It's been tough, but now I feel a lot more able to come out and talk about these things.'
Aidy Boothroyd was in charge of England Under-21s for five years. (Image: Luka Stanzl/PA) After leaving his England role following the team's exit from the European Under-21 Championship in 2021, Boothroyd had a short spell as part of the Northern Ireland coaching staff in May 2022.
He added his focus is now on keeping fit and bringing more awareness to the condition.
'To be honest it's been a burden, three years it's taken me to come to this position,' Boothroyd said.
'It is a bit like my life's been on hold for all of us really, for my family, for my kids and people have just wanted to be helpful and that's great.

'I don't want to wallow, don't want pity, all I want is to get back on the pitch or whatever it is I end up doing.
'I won't let this define me, I'll continue, I'll keep fit, I'll do what I've got to do in the gym and hopefully I can get a job with a purpose.
'But for now, it's about getting this off my chest and seeing if I can help and bring awareness to more people about this condition.'

Knicks head coach search: Is Jason Kidd Plan A? What we know
About a week has passed since the Knicks fired Tom Thibodeau — the franchise's winningest coach this century – on the heels of New York making the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years. So far, everything about the franchise's search for a new coach seems … odd. The Knicks have interest in Jason Kidd, per league sources. The problem? Kidd, the coach of the Dallas Mavericks, has two years left on his contract. The Knicks, while they might be preparing to ask for permission to interview Kidd for their vacancy, have not yet made a formal request. There has yet to be any contact as of Monday morning, per a Mavericks team source. And yet, when that time comes, per multiple league sources, the expectation is that the Mavericks will deny that request. Advertisement This brings us to this question: Did the Knicks fire Thibodeau without a no-hiccups successor in place? A week into the search, it certainly feels that way. New York is expected to do an exhaustive search that includes coaches at every level, per league sources. However, the expectation for this franchise is to win a championship. Whoever is hired has to carry the weight of that. The Knicks decided to move on from Thibodeau — a decision that The Athletic reported after the Knicks' season ended was in the hands of owner James Dolan — during a coaching cycle that isn't overflowing with heavily experienced, successful head coaches. Former Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone, a champion, is the biggest name on the market with championship experience. Malone, like Thibodeau, is a very good coach, but he shares many tendencies and traits with Thibodeau. Former Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown is an experienced name out there, as well. Former Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins is, too. Ex-Los Angeles Lakers Lakers head coach Darvin Ham and former Charlotte Hornets head coach James Borrego could also be of interest. They are all good coaches and have had various degrees of success, though only Malone has won a championship as a head coach among that group. Would any of those names be clear-cut upgrades over Thibodeau? Not on paper, at least. That the Knicks fired Thibodeau and are currently juggling the idea of trying to pry away currently employed head coaches suggests that Thibodeau's firing might have been made without a sure-fire successor in mind. With that said, maybe the Knicks' decision-makers really believe Kidd is attainable. The Mavericks head coach has connections to several members of the Knicks organization, including star guard Jalen Brunson and Knicks vice president of sports medicine Casey Smith. Furthermore, Kidd didn't always enjoy being Dallas' spokesperson in the aftermath of the franchise trading Luka Dončić, per league sources. In a Feb. 10 game against the Kings, Mavericks center Daniel Gafford got hurt. In the middle of the injury crisis, multiple fans were also ejected for protesting the Dončić trade. Kidd didn't address the media afterward. Advertisement 'I just needed a break,' Kidd explained Feb. 12 — two days later. In New York, Kidd would continue to be the spokesperson. President Leon Rose hasn't fielded questions from independent media in several years. If Dallas were to deny the Knicks' request, and Kidd would prefer to coach elsewhere, could he put up enough of a stink behind the scenes to make the organization's decision-makers change their mind? It feels like the Knicks are banking on that. Even then, the Mavericks almost certainly would want draft compensation to facilitate such a rare move. New York, which depleted most of its draft capital over the last calendar year, would have to consider that as it moved forward in the process. (Kidd was previously involved in a coaching trade. In 2014, the Milwaukee Bucks acquired his coaching rights from the Brooklyn Nets for two second-round picks.) Lastly, maybe there is an expectation that owners get involved to work something out. They've proved they can work together in other settings. Dolan's Sphere in Las Vegas is on property owned by Mavericks owner Miriam Adelson. A lot of moving parts would have to work in the Knicks' favor in order to make Jason Kidd their next head coach. There's nothing wrong with targeting an employed head coach for their vacant position. Due diligence is good. It just seems a little odd that it appears to be Plan A. The Knicks have backed themselves into a corner between the firing of Thibodeau and this upcoming hire. They've made it clear that what the winningest coach in recent franchise history did wasn't good enough to reach their ultimate goal of a championship. It'll be tough for New York's suits to win the headlines and backpages with the next head coach, unless they have something up their sleeves, which is totally possible. Until the big reveal, though, the Knicks appear to be in limbo. No available coach is an obvious upgrade or change of pace from Thibodeau. Getting a proven coach from another team seems far-fetched. Hiring an inexperienced or first-year head coach, while it might end up being the right decision a year from now, is a difficult sell to fans who now have heightened expectations after several successful seasons and based on the franchise's own language following the firing of Thibodeau. New York just has to get this right. Maybe it will. Right now, though, this all feels lackluster. Christian Clark and Fred Katz contributed reporting.

Tottenham contact Brentford over Thomas Frank, hoping for agreement in next 48 hours
Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Brentford as they seek to appoint Thomas Frank as head coach — and the north London side hope to reach an agreement in the next 48 hours. Frank, 51, quickly emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Ange Postecoglou following his exit on Friday and terms with the Dane are in place. Advertisement There is a healthy relationship between the clubs and negotiations will centre on the cost of releasing Frank, plus the backroom staff who will join him, which is expected to be in the region of £10million ($13.5m, €11.8m). Tottenham announced that Postecoglou had been sacked despite the 59-year-old winning the Europa League title and ending the club's 17-year wait for a major trophy. Postecoglou's future had been in doubt for months, following a Premier League season in which Spurs lost 22 of their 38 games and finished 17th, their worst league finish since 1976-77. 'When I reflect on my time as manager of Tottenham Hotspur, my overriding emotion is one of pride,' Postecoglou said in a statement published by his representatives following Friday's news of his departure. 'The opportunity to lead one of England's historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime. Sharing that experience with all those who truly love this club and seeing the impact it had on them is something I will never forget.' Frank took over with Brentford in the Championship in 2018 and got them promoted to the Premier League in 2021. Since then, Brentford have become an established top-flight side, finishing 13th, ninth, 16th and now 10th this season. Postecoglou was warmly received by the Spurs fans at their Europa League trophy parade and during their final Premier League game, the 4-1 home defeat by Brighton & Hove Albion. He admitted after the game that he was still in the dark about his long-term future, despite the historic triumph in Bilbao. The Australian was appointed as Tottenham head coach in June 2023, signing a three-year deal with a fourth as an option. In his first season, Spurs finished fifth in the league, but this season they were disrupted by a severe injury crisis during which they lost almost the entire first team. Postecoglou then prioritised the Europa League as Spurs' only way to win a trophy, eliminating AZ Alkmaar, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bodo/Glimt in the knock-out rounds before beating Manchester United 1-0 in the final. Analysis by Jay Harris Frank joined Brentford as an assistant coach in December 2016 and the long-term plan was for him to replace Dean Smith, which happened two years later when the latter moved to Aston Villa. Frank lost eight of his first 10 games in charge but managed to stabilise the side and they finished 11th in the Championship in 2018-19. Advertisement Brentford reached the Championship play-off final in Frank's first full season but they lost 2-1 to Fulham after extra time. They returned to Wembley the following year and beat Swansea City 2-0 to earn promotion to the Premier League. Many observers expected Brentford to get relegated but they memorably beat Arsenal on the opening day of the 2021-22 season and finished 13th. Frank's coaching helped his young squad, including Ivan Toney, Bryan Mbeumo and David Raya, to excel at a higher level while he convinced Christian Eriksen to join them on a short-term contract. Brentford's second season in the top-flight under Frank was phenomenal. They thrashed Manchester United 4-0 at home and were the only side to beat then champions Manchester City twice. Toney scored 20 goals in 33 appearances and became Brentford's first England international since Les Smith in 1939. Brentford's third year in the Premier League was disrupted by injuries but they bounced back stronger this season. They finished 10th had three players reach double figures for goals (Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa and Kevin Schade). Frank's impact at Brentford has been huge and he will probably have a statue outside their stadium in the future. He has a fantastic connection with the fanbase, the players love him and he has a great relationship with the owner Matthew Benham, director of football Phil Giles and technical director Lee Dykes. Replacing Frank will be a difficult challenge for Brentford. Tottenham's transfer policy has changed since Johan Lange became their sporting director in November 2023 and now they mainly focus on signing players under the age of 23, including Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Wilson Odobert. Frank has an excellent track record of developing talent, including Ollie Watkins, Toney and Mbeumo, which can be traced back to his time in charge of Denmark's youth sides, so he could be a great fit for this young Spurs squad. Advertisement Lange and Frank have previously worked together at Danish side Lygnby which would help. When Lange was Aston Villa's sporting director, he considered hiring Frank to replace Steven Gerrard before Unai Emery was appointed. Frank prefers to use a 4-3-3 formation but is more flexible than Postecoglou. During Brentford's first two seasons in the Premier League, he regularly used a 3-5-2 formation against better-quality opposition and used long balls and set-pieces to good effect. Brentford have evolved and now mainly play out from the back and press opponents high up the pitch. A switch to a 4-2-3-1 system in 2024-25 to extract the best out of attacking midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard highlights how he is more than willing to make subtle tweaks to his principles for the benefit of the team. One of the biggest challenges for Frank would be adjusting to European competition. He reached the preliminary rounds of the Europa League with Brondby but not the main stage of the competition, so it would be a steep learning curve jumping straight into the Champions League.
