The foldable iPhone will be a slam dunk against the Galaxy Z Fold 7 because of two reasons
It's finally happening: Apple is winding down the last few stages of research and development, and the foldable iPhone is ready to enter production. This phone, which seemed almost like a lie over the years, is about to make its grand entry into the market, and I think it'll be a slam dunk against the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. Don't get me wrong, the Fold 7 sold me on foldables, and is easily one of the best foldable phones out there today. Samsung finally caught up with its Chinese competitors in almost every aspect, but Apple is honing in on the two hardware limitations that the Fold 7 hasn't addressed.

The displays that foldables use develop deeper creases over time as their fold and unfold count keeps rising. It's just a fact of physics. A fact that has kept Apple from releasing a foldable for years.
The company has, according to industry insiders, remained adamant on only releasing a foldable iPhone once it can completely eliminate the main display's crease line. Now that the phone is nearing production, many reports have come in that claim that Apple's foldable will have the most advanced hinge and display on the market. But no one has been brave enough to say that it will be crease-free.
But if Apple has somehow managed to make a foldable phone with no crease, then it will be the first company on the market to do so. The foldable iPhone wouldn't just surpass the Galaxy Z Fold 7 , but also literally every other foldable that currently exists. Which is why the recent leak of a second trump card makes me think that Apple may have something truly spectacular up its sleeve.

Yep, apparently the foldable iPhone's battery is going to range between a capacity of 5000 mAh to 5,500 mAh. Apple is unlikely to use a silicon battery just yet, and will probably take advantage of the fact that its foldable is thicker than the Fold 7 . At a rumored thickness of approximately 9.5 mm, Apple has a lot more wiggle room to play around with.
Now, this battery capacity isn't too mind-blowing, considering the batteries that Chinese foldable phones have been shipping with. But when it comes to one-on-one competition with the Fold 7 , the foldable iPhone will likely boast a much longer battery life. This will only be improved by the AI-powered iOS 26 feature that manages battery usage much better than before.
The foldable iPhone is hardly perfect, at least according to recent leaks and rumors. For example, leaked foldable iPhone screen specs suggest that the phone will fall behind the Fold 7 in certain aspects, let alone the Fold 8 which it will directly challenge.It's also unlikely to do anything special, barring the aforementioned crease-free display that I'm still skeptical about. According to industry insider Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to sell the foldable iPhone using the hype created by Samsung's foldables.
But, let's be honest. If you're an iPhone user — especially one that's deeply entrenched in the company's ecosystem — you're never going to buy an Android foldable. Even if the foldable iPhone had been worse in every way, that would have been your first folding phone, and that's completely understandable.
But if Apple actually manages to make a foldable iPhone that has no crease and boasts a larger battery than the Fold, then it will be a hype monster. Everyone will eat it up, and even Android users may be swayed.
I think it's safe to say that Samsung needs to put in even more effort for the Fold 8, lest it be left in the dust by a phone that it supplied the displays for.

The company claims audio isn't stored or used for AI training, though the AI does keep learned info to function as your assistant. Bee also promised to only record voices of people who consent verbally and is working on features to set boundaries – like pausing recording based on topics or location. It is also pushing for on-device AI processing, which is safer privacy-wise than cloud-based. But it's still unclear if these privacy policies will hold once Bee becomes part of Amazon, a company known for a mixed track record on user data privacy. The always-listening nature brings back memories of Amazon's privacy issues a few years ago, when employees were caught reviewing Alexa recordings – including accidental ones. And Amazon's had hits and misses with wearables. It still sells Echo Frames smart glasses but shut down its Halo health tracker in 2023. However, Bee's AI angle fits right into Amazon's push with Alexa+ generative AI. Still, while Amazon is betting big on AI wearables with Bee, whether it's a game-changer or privacy headache remains to be seen. The Galaxy S26 may have a surprise under the hood
Apparently, a Samsung-made Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 may still be in the works, according to a prominent leaker. Reportedly, the chip may be cheaper than the one that TSMC makes, which should be good news for the Galaxy S26 prices. There have been conflicting rumors about the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 processor, which may power Samsung's next year flagship series, the Galaxy S26 . Rumor has it that the chip may be manufactured by both TSMC and Samsung. And now, a reputable tipster is chiming in, reiterating this claim. Digital Chat Station is now claiming on Weibo that the so-called SM8850s chipset has not been cancelled yet. Reportedly, this model number could stand for the Samsung-made Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chip. Meanwhile, the standard, TSMC-made Snapdragon chip is reportedly sporting model number SM8850. In a follow-up comment, DCS also claims that the processor manufactured by Samsung would be cheaper than the one coming from TSMC. If this rumor turns out to be true and Qualcomm indeed goes with this dual-sourcing strategy, it's highly likely that the Galaxy S26 phones may come with the chip made by Samsung. This would be good news for the pricing of the phones, which could ensure Samsung doesn't have to raise prices for the S26 lineup as much. Meanwhile, a cheaper Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 could also be used for base flagships from other brands, including Xiaomi and Honor, which would allow for price freezes in different areas. But of course, many of you probably know that Samsung's chip manufacturing has traditionally lagged behind TSMC. Unfortunately, we've seen previously that chips made by Samsung lag in performance and efficiency. So it's likely that the TSMC-made Snapdragon chip may be technically better performing than its Samsung twin brother. It's also likely, though, that Samsung manages to catch up to TSMC and its chip to be comparable to the TSMC-made one too. Meanwhile, we've previously heard that Samsung may offer the in-house Exynos 2600 to some Galaxy S26 models. From all it seems, Samsung appears not to have made its final decision about the processor powering these phones just yet. Samsung's main competitor, Apple, has been making its own processor for iPhones for quite a while, and Apple's processors are top-notch, powerful, and I do hope that Samsung takes its time and makes the right call here. Whether it's its own chip, one from TSMC, or its in-house Exynos, what matters most to users is having a phone that runs fast, stays cool, and doesn't drain the battery too quickly. If Samsung can pull that off while keeping prices down, that's a win for everyone.
