Business Economy
New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) Bill Ready, Pinterest CEO pointed towards the prospects of Agentic AI in shopping. Ready was talking with the investors on the second-quarter earnings call.
Bill Ready said on the second quarter earnings call ' I think this notion of an agent just going and buying all the things for you without you doing anything is a very, very long cycle for that to play out both in terms of how users think about it, where the users are going to be ready to just let something go run off and do everything for them, save for maybe some very utilitarian journeys.'
Pinterest termed the current scenario as 'Cambrian Moment' as businesses are continuously exploring new ways to create new AI-enabled experiences.
While CEO Ready stressed to users to imagine 'Pinterest' as an AI-driven shopping assistant, as the platform is currently at the forefront of visual search and provides next-gen shopping experiences to users.
' If we look at what's happening on our platform already, we're able to take the user much further down that shopping journey, assisting them, as I mentioned, with the relevancy of our recommendations, that's effectively taking the user much further,' Ready added.

Rajnath Singh to lay foundation stone for Rs 1,800 cr rail coach unit in MP

Bhopal, Aug 10 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the state is set to receive a major boost under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision—a new rail coach manufacturing unit. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will perform the bhoomipujan ceremony today at Dussehra Maidan in Obeidullaganj to mark the start of the project. The event will also be attended by Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Defence Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar, Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar, and Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) Chairman Shantanu Rai. A short film on the BEML project, a 3D walk-through of the proposed plant, and models of new facilities will be showcased during the programme. The plant under the name Brahma Project (BEML Rail Hub for Manufacturing) will be built on over 60 hectares in Umariya village of Raisen district, near the Bhopal border, at a cost of Rs 1,800 crore. The facility is expected to benefit Bhopal, Raisen, Sehore, and Vidisha districts, creating employment for over 5,000 people, both directly and indirectly. Technical students from the region will particularly gain from new job opportunities. Calling it a significant boost to the Make in India initiative, Yadav said the unit will manufacture coaches for Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, and metro trains, ushering in a 'new era' for India's rail network. The project will also stimulate industrial growth in nearby areas, including Mandideep. The decision to establish the factory was taken a few months ago during Yadav's visit to the BEML institute in Bengaluru. The Chief Minister emphasized that the unit will fully align with Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat goals by utilizing mostly indigenous technology and materials, reducing foreign dependence and positioning India as a leader in defence manufacturing. 'Under the leadership of PM Modi, a new chapter of industrial development will be scripted,' Yadav said, adding that investors from Madhya Pradesh and across the country are being invited to participate. The project prioritizes environmental sustainability, featuring zero liquid waste, use of solar and renewable energy, rainwater harvesting, and green landscaping. Built as a 'green factory' using recycled and sustainable materials, the plant will initially produce 125–200 coaches per year, with capacity planned to scale up to 1,100 coaches annually within five years. Yadav said that the project will not only generate thousands of jobs but also enhance the state's technological capabilities, making Madhya Pradesh a competitive player in the global high-speed rail and metro market. PM Modi flags off 3 Vande Bharat trains, launches RV Road-Bommasandra yellow metro line in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Aug 10 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the long-awaited Yellow Line of Namma Metro, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra, and flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains, including the extended Bengaluru–Belagavi service, marking a significant day for Karnataka's transport infrastructure. The 19.15-km Yellow Line corridor, conceived in the 2011 Detailed Project Report prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, has faced multiple delays since construction began in 2017. Initially targeted for completion in December 2021, the project was hindered by land acquisition hurdles, the COVID-19 pandemic, and supply delays from Chinese rolling stock manufacturer CRRC Nanjing. Designed to serve eight lakh commuters along the Electronics City corridor, the new metro line aims to significantly ease road congestion—especially at the notoriously clogged Silk Board junction. However, the initial rollout has faced criticism due to limited operational capacity, with only three train sets available and resulting 25-minute intervals between services. Commuters have expressed frustration, describing the inauguration as largely symbolic given the insufficient frequency. The event unfolded amid a charged political atmosphere. At Ragigudda Metro Station, Congress supporters raised slogans in support of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who emphasized that the Metro project is a collaborative effort between the state and union governments—not the property of any single political party. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy accused BJP leaders, including State unit chief B.S. Yediyurappa and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, of portraying the project as solely a Central government initiative. Meanwhile, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge highlighted that the state had contributed over Rs12,000 crore—including land acquisition costs—and accused the BJP of 'hijacking credit.' Alongside the metro inauguration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the extended Belagavi–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express, which will operate six days a week, departing Belagavi at 5:20 a.m. and arriving in Bengaluru by 1:50 p.m. The return journey will commence at 2:20 p.m. This service is expected to enhance connectivity between Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Davangere, Haveri, Hubballi, Dharwad, and Belagavi. Additionally, two other Vande Bharat services,Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–Amritsar and Nagpur (Ajni)–Pune were also launched. Security was tightened at key venues, including Ragigudda Metro Station and the IAF Training Command headquarters. Bengaluru Traffic Police enforced restrictions on major routes from 8.30 am. to 2.30 pm., though disruption was minimal as the Prime Minister travelled mainly by helicopter and Metro between venues. The day's events marked both an infrastructural milestone for Bengaluru and a flashpoint in Karnataka's political rivalry, with competing claims over credit overshadowing the delayed but significant launch. PM Modi arrives in Bengaluru to unveil infrastructure projects

Bengaluru, Aug 10 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bengaluru today to a grand and enthusiastic welcome from thousands of BJP workers, supporters, and local residents, transforming the city into a celebration zone under tight security. The visit, packed with landmark infrastructure events, is being hailed by party leaders as a historic step in Bengaluru's and Karnataka's development journey. The Prime Minister's first major stop will be the inauguration of Namma Metro's Yellow Line, a long-awaited 19.75-km corridor built at a cost of approximately Rs 7,160 crore. The new line, connecting R.V. Road to Bommasandra, is expected to directly benefit over eight lakh commuters daily, significantly reducing travel time between Bengaluru's central areas and the bustling industrial and IT hubs in the south. Officials said the Yellow Line will not only decongest some of the city's busiest roads but also improve last-mile connectivity to tech parks, industrial estates, and residential zones. In a move to further bolster Bengaluru's public transport network, Modi also will lay the foundation stone for Phase-3 of the Bengaluru Metro, an ambitious Rs 15,610-crore expansion project. This phase, once completed, will add several crucial corridors to the network, linking emerging residential layouts and commercial areas to the city's heart, thus easing pressure on existing routes. The day's significance extension beyond metro developments, with the Prime Minister will be the flagging off multiple Vande Bharat trains — high-speed, modern trains that symbolize India's rail transformation. The services include Bengaluru to Belagavi, Amritsar to Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Nagpur (Ajni) to Pune, each aimed at enhancing inter-city connectivity and reducing travel time for passengers. Railway officials noted that these routes were chosen for their high passenger demand and their potential to stimulate trade and tourism. Karthik Reddy, Deputy Inspector General and Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said comprehensive traffic management measures were in place for the Prime Minister's visit. 'We have already announced diversions to the public, and heavy vehicles have been moved to the city outskirts to ensure smooth movement. All traffic arrangements have been completed,' he said. Multiple agencies, including city police, special protection units, and railway security forces, coordinated to ensure a seamless schedule for the day. The Prime Minister's itinerary includes a high-profile public address in Electronic City, where he is expected to highlight his government's infrastructure push in Karnataka and its alignment with the vision of a developed India by 2047. BJP leaders see the visit as a crucial opportunity to showcase the Modi government's track record, especially in the run-up to upcoming political contests in the state. With banners, posters, and saffron flags lining key stretches of the city, and chants of 'Modi, Modi' echoing at gathering points, Bengaluru wore a festive look. For many residents, the day's events represented more than just project inaugurations — they symbolized aspirations for faster, more efficient mobility and a boost to the city's standing as India's tech and innovation capital.
