Woman arrested in probe into attempted murder of young Donegal man Charles Dooher
Gardaí have confirmed a woman has been arrested in connection with the investigation.
The woman, aged in her 50s, was arrested on Sunday, July 6, 2025 and was questioned by gardaí.
A Garda spokesperson said: 'Gardaí arrested a woman in connection with the investigation into an attempted murder in Lifford, Co Donegal, on 20th January, 2025.
'The woman, aged in her 50s, was arrested on Sunday, 6th July, 2025 and detained at a Garda Station in the North West under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.
"She has since been released and a file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
'Investigations are ongoing.'
Charles Dooher was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast and he was treated in intensive care, fighting for his life.
His family and friends maintained a bedside vigil for the young farmer while he was in hospital.
Charles has since undergone surgery and has had a protective plate fitted to his head.
Charles' father, Charles Dooher senior, who is aged in his 60s, was also injured in the attack and received treatment for less serious injuries at Letterkenny University Hospital.
Earlier this year, the PSNI arrested two adult males in connection with the investigation but they were subsequently released with enquiries ongoing.
Gardaí continue to appeal to the public for any information or witnesses related to this incident.
Those with camera footage, including dash-cam footage, from the Coneyburrow Road in Lifford between 10am and 11am are urged to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

A claw-hammer, a hurley, a slash-hook handle and three sledgehammer handles were seized by Mallow gardaí in the investigation of a feud between two families which 'sullies the name of Mallow and frightens members of the public'. Three men who were prosecuted for having this stash of weapons in a car on March 18, 2023, appealed against jail terms imposed on them at Mallow District Court. However, the sentences were affirmed, with the exception of one man having the last month of his sentence suspended. Detective Garda David Forsythe said at Cork Circuit Appeals Court on Tuesday that gardaí received an anonymous call from a concerned member of the public that members of the O'Brien family in Doneraile were on their way at lunchtime that day as part of a planned attack on the home of the O'Flaherty family on Connolly Road in Mallow. Gardaí intercepted an orange BMW being driven towards River Valley, Mallow, Co Cork, and because of a smell of cannabis they indicated personal searches together with a search of the car were going to be carried out. The five occupants of the car cooperated, as weapons, including the hammer, hurley and implement handles, were found in the car. Det Garda Forsythe said there was no sign of the feud between the families abating and recently the conflict broke out in a physical altercation at Mallow courthouse, which disrupted court proceedings for a period and spilled out on the street. 'From a Garda point of view, it is quite time-consuming trying to keep a lid on these things. It is quite serious for people living in Mallow — it sullies the name of Mallow and frightens members of the public. 'Gardaí received a call that day that members of the O'Brien family in Doneraile were going to launch an attack on the O'Flaherty family in Mallow. 'The evidence is that it is still ongoing,' Det Garda Forsythe testified on Tuesday. Barristers Brian Leahy and Liam M O'Brien asked for the sentences to be suspended or community service orders imposed instead of the jail terms, stressing there was no evidence against them causing any damage to the O'Flahertys' property and that their only offence was of being in possession of the implements. However, Judge Boyle affirmed the six-month sentences under appeal by 37-year-old Kevin O'Brien and 49-year-old Richard O'Brien — both of Ballydineen halting site, Doneraile, Co Cork. In respect of the five-month sentence appealed by 21-year-old Kevin Barry, of Inchnagree, Buttevant, Co Cork, Judge Boyle suspended the last month of the sentence. All three appellants were then taken into custody to commence their sentences on the single charge of possession of the weapons on the day in March 2023.

Woman in court after kicking detective in crotch during search of her home

A woman who kicked a detective in the crotch while he was carrying out a search of her home in Co Donegal has appeared in court. Jana Milaniakova appeared at Letterkenny District Court charged with assaulting the Garda at her home on January 2nd, 2024. Garda Pauline Doherty gave evidence of the arrest, charge and caution of Milaniakova at Letterkenny Courthouse yesterday. Judge Eiteain Cunningham asked if the detective was injured following the assault. Sergeant Doyle said there was "initial discomfort" but that the detective did not suffer any long term issues. The assault charge is Contrary to Section 3 (1) and 3(2) of the Non-Fatal Offences against the Person Act 1997 (as amended by Section 20 of the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2023). Sergeant Doyle added that the Director of Public Prosecutions had decided the incident can be dealt with by way of summary disposal in the District Court. Ms Milaniakova was also charged with the theft of an engagement ring at the Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny on December 29th, 2023. That charge is Contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001 The case was adjourned to November 10th for hearing.

Gardaí arrest woman (40s) as part of Stephen O'Meara murder investigation
The woman, aged in her 40s, was arrested this afternoon on suspicion of murder and is currently detained Gardaí have arrested a woman as part of the investigation into the murder of Stephen O'Meara in Ballydonnell Woods, Redcross, Co. Wicklow in August 2009. The woman, aged in her 40s, was arrested this afternoon on suspicion of murder and is currently detained pursuant to Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 at a Garda Station in County Wexford. Two men have been convicted for offences relating to this murder, but gardaí issued a fresh appeal in 2023 as they believed there may have been others involved in his killing. In 2012, Michael Dickenson of Darragh Park, Wicklow town, was jailed for life after being convicted of Stephen's murder. In 2013, Clement Byrne of Clonattin Village, Gorey, Co Wexford was sentenced to eight-years imprisonment for his role in Stephen's death. Gardaí report that on August 6, 2009, at approximately 6pm, Stephen left his home at Rose Hill, Wicklow town, and walked down through different walkways along the back of the town to Marlton road, where he was collected by a silver Nissan Pulsar car and driven through Redcross to Ballydonnell Wood. At the woods, gardaí believe there was a group of suspects present. Stephen was then fatally injured, shot and buried in a shallow grave at the woods. On August 8, 2009, Stephen was reported missing to gardaí by his partner. Gardaí began a missing person investigation, later upgraded to murder, which resulted in the two individuals being convicted for offences relating to the murder. Gardaí have continued their investigation since. In 2023, Crimecall interviewed Stephen's parents John and Veronica who appealed for the public to assist with the garda investigation into their son's death and to help them find closure.
