How Leicester City could line up on the opening day as Marti Cifuentes faces big calls
He's given 30 different players minutes over his three pre-season matches so far, but only 11 can step out at the King Power Stadium against Sheffield Wednesday.
There's been a few clues, but nothing definitive over who could make the line-up, and so the next two weeks of training, and the dress rehearsal against Fiorentina, will help him make up his mind.

For now, here is the state of play at City in each position.
Goalkeeper
Mads Hermansen is City's number one but he's not played any minutes in pre-season following groin surgery, while there's potential for him to leave before the end of the transfer window.
It could leave a tricky decision. If Hermansen is able to prove his fitness over the next couple of weeks, does he start against Wednesday?
Or does Jakub Stolarczyk, as the man who has played in pre-season and who could be the number one in case of Hermansen's exit, get the nod? Right now, it seems like the Pole is the favourite.
Right-back
With Cifuentes' focus on control and dominating the ball, Ricardo Pereira's skillset feels like it's perfect. But a hamstring issue saw the Portuguese miss the friendlies last Friday.
If he recovers and plays against Fiorentina, it feels like the right-back role is his. Otherwise, it could go to Hamza Choudhury.
The academy graduate, who has worn the armband a couple of times in pre-season, has been used as a right-back who inverts into midfield by Cifuentes, rather than as a player who is stationed in the centre of the park.
It's also where he played and received positive reviews during his loan at Sheffield United last season.
Centre-back
There are five senior options for two spots and despite the Rangers interest, Conor Coady seems the most likely to be selected at the moment.
He's played consistently through pre-season, has been captain at times and seems to be well-liked by Cifuentes.
There's a wide range of options over who plays next to him. Jannik Vestergaard has the passing range that Cifuentes will love, but would there be enough pace at the back if the Dane partnered Coady?
Wout Faes has played very well in pre-season, but could be off this summer, while Caleb Okoli has the physical attributes but perhaps not the passing ability that Cifuentes wants.
Ben Nelson may provide the best of both words, but does have the least experience of the options. Albeit, he too has worn the armband this summer.
Left-back
Luke Thomas finished last season well and has looked confident on the ball in his couple of games under Cifuentes, moving into more advanced positions than he's usually seen in.
But James Justin has had a particularly promising pre-season, especially going forward, and has switched from the right to the left over the past couple of matches. He is the favourite for now.
Central midfield
While Harry Winks did not have the best of games against Koln, his ability to influence a game at the base of midfield will be well-liked by Cifuentes, as it was by Enzo Maresca two years ago. That perhaps puts him in front to start in midfield, but it remains an open battle.
Oliver Skipp, as the likeliest of the midfielders to remain at the club, could partner Winks, although there are questions as to whether the duo work together effectively, or if a different kind of midfielder is needed.
Wilfred Ndidi and Boubakary Soumare are certainly that, but neither's future is sure. The Fiorentina friendly should reveal more.
Right wing
Once he's up to full speed, Abdul Fatawu is the obvious choice on the right. But he's yet to start a pre-season game as he's eased back following his ACL tear.
In that case, Kasey McAteer is the frontrunner to start on the right side. He gives City something different out wide and his off-the-ball work-rate has impressed Cifuentes.
Attacking midfield
Bilal El Khannouss is the standout option as the most creative player City have in central areas.
The questions are whether he will still be at the club come September and whether a player who is more likely to be present should start ahead of him. But equally, it may feel needlessly detrimental not to use El Khannouss while he's available to the club.
The alternatives are Louis Page, who has impressed in pre-season but lacks experience, the 17-year-old never having played a senior game, or Will Alves, who is perhaps ready after his loan at Cardiff, but has mostly played on the wing in the friendly matches.
Left wing
Jeremy Monga has been City's best player in pre-season. If Cifuentes is true to his word, he should be starting, even if he has only just turned 16.
But that's not to say Stephy Mavididi hasn't done well. In fact, he too has looked good in pre-season until a groin injury ruled him out of the most recent set of friendlies. Even if it's a minor injury, that could have tipped the balance in Monga's favour.
Of all the decisions Cifuentes has to make, this looks to be the most difficult.
Striker
If City don't have a new forward through the door in time for the start of the season, then it's a choice between Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka.
Both have now scored two in pre-season, but it's Ayew who looks to be the favourite. He's the better of the pair at receiving the ball to feet and bringing others into play.
But saying that, if El Khannouss starts, Daka's sprints in behind may be preferred. It's another tight battle

How to watch Crystal Palace vs Liverpool live: Community Shield stream, TV channel, team news, prediction
Crystal Palace and Liverpool meet at Wembley on Sunday in the FA Community Shield, the traditional curtain-raiser for the domestic season in England. FA Cup holders Palace will be eager to win even more silverware as Oliver Glasner's side have had a disrupted summer following their heroic defeat of Manchester City in the FA Cup final at the end of last season. Palace have been demoted from the UEFA Europa League to the Conference League due to rules regarding multi-club ownership but they've appealed that decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and will find out the verdict soon. American billionaire Woody Johnson has agreed to buy the majority stake in the club from fellow American John Textor whose Eagles Football group are at the center of the dispute over Palace's demotion to the Conference League. On the pitch they've managed to keep hold of key players Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze for now. Liverpool continue to mourn the loss of Diogo Jota after his tragic death in a car accident in Spain over the summer. On the pitch, Arne Slot has added plenty of new players this summer with Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong all arriving to boost his squad. Luis Diaz has left and Darwin Nunez appears to be on the way out too to help offset some of the huge spending, while Alexander Isak is also a target for Liverpool. It's clear the Reds aim to make the most of their title win last season and are now focused on winning the Champions League, and everything else, too. For live updates and highlights throughout Crystal Palace vs Liverpool, check out PST's live blog coverage below. How to watch Crystal Palace vs Liverpool live, stream link and start time Kick off time: 10am ET Sunday (August 10)Venue: Wembley Stadium — LondonTV Channel/Streaming: ESPN+ Crystal Palace team news, focus Long-term absentees Chadi Riad and Cheick Doucoure remain out but Crystal Palace have a full squad to choose from aside from that. Oliver Glasner has called for some additions to be made but given the change in ownership dragging on and the uncertainty over which European competition they will play in, there hasn't been much movement in Palace's squad this summer. Eze, Guehi, Mateta, Henderson and Wharton are the spine of the team and that remains intact, while the likes of Munoz and Kamada will look to build on a superb end to last season. Liverpool team news, focus There are very few injury concerns for Liverpool as they lined up the quartet of Mohamed Salah, Wirtz, Ekitike and Cody Gakpo from the start against Athletic Bilbao at Anfield on Monday. Slot is trying to get the balance right so he can put as much attacking talent on the pitch as possible at the same time. Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez are struggling with injury, while Virgil van Dijk missed the games against Bilbao due to illness and goalkeeper Alisson returned to Brazil for private reasons. Crystal Palace vs Liverpool prediction This is always a funny game to predict but it feels like Liverpool will lay down a marker for the levels they're going to try and reach this season. Given the uncertain offseason Palace have had, they'll be competitive but it feels like they've stood still. Crystal Palace 1-3 Liverpool.

Trent Alexander-Arnold heaps praise on Sadio Mané
Trent Alexander-Arnold & Sadio Mané Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a striking tribute to Sadio Mané during the podcast hosted by Gary Neville. The English defender revealed that his former Liverpool teammate was the only player he had the privilege of playing alongside without ever having to face him as an opponent. The England international did not hide his admiration for Mané's exceptional qualities. He highlighted that the left winger, in his view, embodied the archetype of the perfect modern forward. Alexander-Arnold emphasized the remarkable technical versatility of his former Anfield training partner. The right-back's comparison with Cristiano Ronaldo underscores the level of excellence attributed to the Senegalese star. "He was a perfect forward. He had everything. He was an athlete. I would probably say he was similar to (Cristiano) Ronaldo. He was fast, powerful, could score with both feet. He was a constant threat to everyone," said Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Leicester: Wilfred Ndidi undergoing medical this Thursday at Besiktas
After several years at Leicester, the Nigerian midfielder is set to continue his career in Turkey. Leicester: Wilfred Ndidi undergoing medical this Thursday at Besiktas Wilfred Ndidi is undergoing his medical this Thursday, August 7, 2025, in Istanbul with Besiktas. The Nigerian defensive midfielder is leaving Leicester City to join the Turkish club in a permanent transfer worth €9.5 million. An agreement between the two clubs was reached earlier this week. The 28-year-old is about to start a new chapter in his career after eight seasons in England. The Super Eagles defensive midfielder landed in Turkey today to finalize his move to Besiktas. The Black Eagles' management triggered a release clause in the player's contract to seal a deal that had been dragging on for several weeks. The Nigerian international, who has 62 caps, is set to sign a three-year contract with an option for a fourth season. This signing marks a major investment for Besiktas, who are counting on Ndidi's European experience to bolster their midfield. A product of KRC Genk, Ndidi joined Leicester in January 2017 and became one of the team's key pillars.
