Chobani is buying plant-based food maker Daily Harvest as the Greek yogurt giant expands its reach into ready-to-make meals. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Daily Harvest was founded a decade ago, becoming one of the first businesses to ship clean, nutritious food directly to customers' doorsteps. Since then, the company has expanded its portfolio to include meals and snacks that are available online and in retail.
Chobani said it aims to use its 'world-class manufacturing, distribution, and retail expertise' to get Daily Harvest into more U.S. homes.
'These two purpose-led brands are united by a shared vision: to make high-quality, delicious food made with real ingredients more accessible,' Chobani and Daily Harvest said in a statement.
While Chobani's roots are in yogurt, the New York-based company has set out to broaden its portfolio through internal innovation and by looking for acquisitions. It developed its own oat milk and creamers before spending $900 million in 2023 to purchase ready-to-drink coffee manufacturer La Colombe.
The addition of Daily Harvest, which makes organic smoothies, breakfast bowls, protein powders and frozen meals, will significantly broaden Chobani's mission of becoming a more well-rounded food company.
Chobani will not only add new healthy food products to the mix but also give shoppers more items to choose from, increasing opportunities to keep consumers in its portfolio throughout the day.
A consumer could have one of Chobani's yogurts and a La Colombe coffee with a Chobani creamer in the morning, before transitioning to a Daily Harvest protein smoothie, pasta or vegetable dish later in the day.
The purchase also gives Chobani a presence for the first time in the multi-billion frozen section of the grocery store, moving the brand beyond its long-time home in the dairy aisle.
Despite efforts to increase its exposure beyond dairy, Chobani hasn't forgotten about the segment closely associated with the company.
In April, Chobani announced it would spend $1.2 billion to build a dairy processing plant in upstate New York, the largest facility investment by the company in its history. The investment came a month after Chobani announced it was spending $500 million to expand production by 50% at its facility in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Tech giant Foxconn creating 600 jobs with $450M Houston investment

Taiwan-based tech company Foxconn has acquired the Fairbanks Logistics Park, an industrial property situated on 100 acres in northwest Houston. The seller, Dalfen Industrial, announced in a news release on Thursday that the site includes four buildings totaling 1 million square feet of industrial space. Foxconn is reportedly investing $450 million in the property to build an AI server manufacturing facility, according to the Greater Houston Partnership, the largest chamber of commerce in the Houston area. The Fairbanks Logistics Park facility will create 600 direct jobs and have an estimated economic impact of $920 million. 'Foxconn Corp. is based in Taiwan and manufactures electronics for companies such as Apple,' the Greater Houston Partnership said in its New Business Announcements: Q1 2025. 'They are expanding production lines in North Houston to build an AI server.' Foxconn has not publicly commented on the facility in Houston. Dalfen Industrial, which acquired the Fairbanks Logistics Park for $90.6 million in July 2023, did not disclose the sale price to Foxconn. Ingrasys USA, a Foxconn subsidiary, acquired the property in March for $142 million, according to the Financial Times. 'This transaction marks a significant growth move for another Fortune 50 tech manufacturer entering the Houston market — joining the ranks of Apple and Nvidia, who have also announced major investments in the region,' Dalfen Industrial said in a statement. 'Together, these developments are helping to position the city as a growing hub for advanced manufacturing and AI infrastructure. Foxconn's purchase of the Fairbanks Logistics Park arrives in conjunction with Apple Inc. and Nvidia Corp. recently announcing new production facilities in the area. Foxconn supplies high-tech components for both firms. Apple plans to build a 250,000-square-foot server manufacturing facility scheduled to open in 2026. Tech firm Nvidia is building an AI supercomputer manufacturing facility in Houston, also expected to open in 2026. L.A. lawyer and son-in-law of Tom Girardi pleads guilty to contempt of court

Days after a judge sentenced legal titan Tom Girardi to seven years in prison for stealing from clients, his son-in-law — formerly a high-ranking attorney at his now-defunct firm — pleaded guilty to a federal charge in Illinois. David Lira, 65, of Pasadena, admitted Thursday to one count of contempt of court for defying a Chicago judge's order concerning the distribution of settlement funds to clients whose relatives had perished in a 2018 Indonesian plane crash. As part of broader litigation to hold Boeing accountable for defects in its 737-MAX jets, Lira and Girardi negotiated payouts totaling $7.5 million for a group of widows and orphans in 2020. But the clients, who lived in Indonesia, did not receive their full settlements. Evidence would later emerge that Girardi was routinely using client money to underwrite a lavish lifestyle with his wife, 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' star Erika Jayne. Lira 'knew that Girardi did not pay the Lion Air Clients' settlement funds in full, in contravention of [U.S. District] Judge (Thomas) Durkin's orders, despite [the Indonesian clients'] inquiries about and demands for their Settlements,' according to a plea agreement filed Thursday. Durkin referred the case for criminal investigation, and prosecutors in Chicago filed wire fraud and other charges against Lira and Girardi in 2021. Prosecutors dropped the Chicago-based case against Girardi, 86, last month. Girardi was separately convicted of wire fraud last year in Los Angeles, resulting in the seven-year prison sentence handed down this week. Lira, who is married to Girardi's daughter Jacqueline, began working at his father-in-law's firm in 1999. He was sometimes called the firm's senior partner, though Girardi was the sole owner. Lira resigned from Girardi Keese about six months before its 2020 collapse, after confronting his father-in-law about the Lion Air case and demanding that Girardi pay the victims. As he moved on to another firm, Lira did not alert the victims or authorities about Girardi's mishandling of the money. Lira's defense attorney, Damon Cheronis, noted that 'the plea agreement did not assert any acts of fraud on the part of Mr. Lira.' 'Mr. Lira continually asked Mr. Girardi to pay these clients their rightful settlement money pursuant to the court order, however Girardi did not,' Cheronis said in a statement. Lira is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 8. Prosecutors have not yet recommended a particular penalty, but they indicated in the plea agreement that under federal sentencing guidelines, Lira faces six to eight years in prison. Girardi and Lira represented the victims in the Lion Air crash alongside Chicago-based lawyer Jay Edelson. It was ultimately Edelson who brought to the judge's attention that the Indonesian clients were not paid by Girardi. 'We're pleased that David Lira, after years of portraying himself as an innocent bystander, has finally admitted he is a criminal,' Edelson told The Times on Thursday. 'We remain hopeful that the other criminals who helped Girardi pull off the largest Ponzi scheme in the history of the plaintiff's bar will also face disbarment and long prison sentences.' The widows and orphans ultimately received their settlement payments after Edelson's insurance provider agreed to foot the cost. The State Bar is pursuing disciplinary action against Lira and two other attorneys who worked at Girardi Keese. Lira continues to practice for a Century City law firm, though restrictions imposed by a bar court judge prohibit him from handling client money.

Wonder, Marc Lore's food tech startup, is planning to go public in early 2028

Billionaire entrepreneur and Wonder CEO Marc Lore has confirmed that his food and restaurant technology startup is planning for an initial public offering. And though it won't happen right away, he offered a very specific timeframe. 'We're going to IPO [and we're] kind of working backwards from March 30, 2028,' Lore said on Thursday at Fast Company 's Most Innovative Companies Summit in New York. 'Whether we hit it or not, we will see.' He added that a full board of directors is in place and that the restaurant technology startup wants to 'look and act like a public company' by the end of next year in preparation for the future offering. 'So all of 2027, we get four quarters of practice,' Lore said. 'That was really important to me to get four quarters of practice where we're giving EPS guidance, having quarterly earnings calls, doing the comp committee, treating it like a public company. So when we go public in Q1 of 2028, we've already had that muscle.' He predicted an accelerating growth rate for the business, continuing through 2028 with $5 billion in revenue, and additional 'big growth' in 2029. The 'Amazon of food' grows up Wonder, which Lore has described as a kind of 'Amazon for food and beverage,' has brick-and-mortar restaurants and a vertically integrated food delivery app. Lore is working to revolutionize the food and restaurant space, building a 'superapp for mealtime,' blending food delivery, AI-driven nutrition, and smart restaurant tech. The company most recently secured $600 million in a funding round backed by Google Ventures, for a post-funding valuation of $7 billion, according to PitchBook. Wonder ranks No. 45 on Fast Company's World's Most Innovative Companies list for 2025. The ultimate goal? To become the platform that meets all your food needs, while embracing personalized dining, driven by AI. Lore's Wonder not only owns the delivery platform but also the restaurants on its platform, with locations spanning 25 or 30 different restaurants across every cuisine type—from steakhouse to burgers and barbecue, Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Greek, Middle Eastern, and Spanish tapas. The startup has also acquired a number of food companies, including Blue Apron, Grubhub, and the media brand Tastemade. When asked by Mansueto Ventures CEO Stephanie Mehta why an an IPO the goal, Lore replied, 'I am really excited about having that public currency.' The entrepreneur has founded a number of notable companies, including which he sold to Walmart nine years ago. 'I think there's so much growth and potential in this business that we could put a lot of capital to work, even post-IPO,' Lore said. 'I'm excited to do some big acquisitions.'
